I love these types, I really liked of Grimnar and ash as well, but didn't finish Is it ok to pickup chicks in dungeons (might go back to it)...but that wasn't really the same anyway.

Wish they would make more VR type anime.

Season 2 of Jack Ryan has already been released.

I know, so has season 2 of hannah, but they were not enough by themselves for me to pay for a month. The boys brings it over the top.

I currently have hulu though and am running through all the shows on there. I have netflix all the time (just use my uncles account, I used to cancel it and rotate between everything else but my uncle just lets me use his now).

I have a free month of hulu (you get one each year and it had been a year), no free month of amazon though, so that is why I'm waiting till it's really worth it for me to snag it.

Without any spoilers, how is the new season?

I'm waiting till after september 9th to get amazon prime (just for one month) as the last episode of boys will air October 9th, so that way I can see em all with just 1 12.99 payment.

But, if it sucks, I may hold off till more is on amazon. I do wanna see season 2 of hannah and the hunt for red october etc show (Forget the name, but the dude was played by harrison ford in the past and now by the guy from the office).

Also I wanna check out/try Teen Wolf, which is on amazon as well. I figure it'll be a full month when I get it, but I could wait till more is out before signing up again if the boyz season 2 blows.

I just got HBO Max, so I watched the first episode of Lovecraft Country (decent, but some plot points didn't have good establishment; I'll see how the rest of the series plays out). I also watched the first two seasons of Infinity Train. Great show! Definitely recommended if you're a fan of the newer story focused cartoons like Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and Over the Garden Wall.

IF you have not seen it the first season at least of West World was very good. I'm sure you have heard of Game of thrones, but True Blood was very good as well (books were over all better but still liked the series), Rome was great as well. So many good HBO series honestly. I think Deadwood might have been on HBO as well, although I never did finish it (both times I tried) nor did I see the recent reunion show.

I think...OZ ...was also on HBO, watched it as a group (me, my wife, best friend and his wife) along time ago and many of the cast members went on to be in Law and Order SVU and other shows....it's worth a shot if you like prison shows at all as well.

It's actually freaking awesome to have so many shows on my lineup, and that is without getting hulu (really wanna see palm springs, I live time loop movies), and hanna season 2, and then later on Amazon prime (They boys season 2.)

Gonna be a pretty freaking great few months for entertainment (thank god considering how the rest of the world is going).

I ate two of em.

I also never gained any weight till I was 27 or so, no matter how much I ate.

Anyway I never once purged after doing a challenge. I did pizza challenges, wing challegnes, hot dog challanges, the becks steak one (I only got one of them free), was just the only time I doubled a challenge lol.

Honestly if you had to purge all that food it would be such a tramatic/gross horrid experience nobody would do them again.

If someone is not complying then handcuff em and arrest them, but I know what damage hitting someone like that can cause, the dude is lucky he didn't end up with shattered bones (especially his leg from that last hit).

I think the real question is "Could a balloon work in earth's atmosphere using only a vacuum in the balloon to cause it to rise and float." It would be working on the principle that causes stuff to float in water, which is that an object in water floats if its weight is displaced. So if you could make a balloon filled with nothing but a vacuum, it would have to displace its weight in air.

I believe you could design a balloon that could actually end up in orbit. The basic concept would be to have a release valve for pressure in the balloon that released a controlled amount of gas as the pressure increased past a certain point.

This would allow the balloon to have enough lighter gas to float up until the lack of pressure would normally cause it to pop, but instead, the valve would release gas to normalize the pressure again, in theory allowing it to continue raising until it possibly hit orbit.

Now I havn't researched this, so it could totally not work, but it's what I would try.

To be fair, part of the reason the cost of living is so obscene here is because we have a church *coughcultcough* buying up as much land as they can and deliberately screwing with the town's economy in order to seize more control. However, this just proves our point; the landlords who own the property are to blame, not wage increases (which don't exist here anyway).

I did mention there are exceptions, but it's not the norm. I mean, i'm not just spouting random crap. I have friend all over the US, and in the places with higher min wage, it's become much harder to actually live. I know people who have moved to places like ugh, can't remember the name of the city, but it's in texas. They moved there, even though min wage is 7.25 an hour, because the cost to rent a 1 bedroom is still $500 or so (and studios can be even cheaper). I could probably look up the city, but it really doesn't matter. The point is that most places that had rapid increases in the min wage, have ended up harder for people to live in over all (more expensive) and while that is true for those who were making min wage before, it much more true for those who were not.

And it's spreading, like a cancer. It's like nobody is even paying attention to what is happening in the many places it has already increase, and they just keep doing it to more and more cities and places, which makes it harder and harder for people to actually find somewhere they can live comfortably without having to share space etc.

IF we could raise min wage and not increase the cost to rent and therefore, the cost for food, and anything you purchase etc (because rental costs are a big, sometimes huge business expense), that would be something (even if your still basically making a larger % of workers just make min wage at that point). At least nobody would be hurt by the process, and those making min wage would be better off.

That is not the case, and till it IS the case, just boosting min wage quickly, is going to keep hurting more and more communities. People will just throw up there hands and say (it needs to be done!! Min wage is not a living wage, and it hasn't gone up with the cost of living etc).

That is very true, but just pumping it up drastically isn't helping, it's hurting and it's not a solution for anyone except the government because they get significantly more taxes that way.

Again, the solution needs to be affordable rent, affordable food and hopefully eventually affordable health care as well. Focus on that, ensuring that everyone can have that if they work 30+ hours a week, and then work on boosting the min wage over time, while hopefully boosting other wages that are hourly as well.

Seriously $15 an hour just 4 years ago was enough to live quite well in this area and alot of jobs paid around that much. In places like seattle min wage IS $15 an hour now, and this is what has happened to the average cost to rent.

A Comprehensive Housing Market Analysis done in 2015 showed the average rent in the city for one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom home was $592, $726, and $934, respectively. Seattle has become the nation's most expensive big city for renters outside of California. According to survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the median rent and utilities paid in the city of Seattle hit $1,555 in 2017.

That is not correct btw (manhattan for instance is still significantly more expensive), but the general information is accurate. It's also outdated.

Do a quick search on seattle craigslist and you'll see STUDIO apartments for $1200, the cheapest 1 bedrooms are about $1500 and plenty of 1 bedrooms are $2000-$2200.

That makes olympia and Tacoma look cheap in comparison (but then again, min wage actually increased more in seattle and larger cities usually cost more anyway.

$15 an hour, which most could get over time, 5 years ago (just you didn't start at that rate), now can barely pay for a 1 bedroom (40 hours a week is 2400$ before taxes). You could rent an efficiency or studio apartment (if you can find one), and probably be able to barely get by in the cheapest 1 bedrooms which are $1500, but you can't get a nice one that is $2000+ and still eat, pay utilities, deal with tranportation, have a phone, pay for internet etc etc.

And again, there are TONS of places where the min wage didn't increase, that still have reasonable (IE not over freaking $2000) 1 bedrooms for rent.

No he's completely wrong. He keeps blaming minimum wage increases instead of the companies raising prices.

I'm stating there is a correlation between rapid min wage increase AND the companies raising prices (and the landlords etc).

The landlords CAN raise prices because more people can afford them, and there is still high demand, which means if they raise prices, people will have to pay them.

This then increases the cost to rent places for companies, stores, restraunts etc, so they have to raise their prices to compensate, and sadly, they often raise their prices due to the min wage increase as well.

So then not only does the cost to rent jump drastically, but the cost to buy things at most stores, or to eat out, or just about everything goes through the roof.

Now if it's a small increase in min wage, this isn't usually as bad, but when you RAPIDLY increase it, everything gets multiplied big time, and you suddenly make many people who were not making min wage before, make it now.

Min wage, basically, seems to set the minimum amount landlords can rent and find people to pay the price. The higher it is, the higher the landlords can charge and get away with it (because people need a roof over their head).

So all that really happened is landlords got more money.

They deserve to have higher wages and see their worthless CEOs' obscene, unjustifiable salaries cut.

Min wage here is 7.25, hasn't budged. Cost of living in this area is obscene and rising, has been for decades. I found out after he left the area that one of my co-workers was homeless and hiding it from everyone because he was ashamed. Pretty sure he's not the only one.

Where, in general, is there? Cause I gotta say I rarely see such extremes in areas where the min wage has not increased. In fact many of them still have places for $500-$600 for 1 bedrooms. I'm not saying cost of living hasn't gone up, but in general it hasn't over doubled in 4 years in most places that min wage did not increase drastically.

And yeah homelessnes, or having to rent a room/have roomates etc, is skyrocketing.

You don't know what you're talking about. Cost of living keeps going up regardless of minimum wage changes. They don't have much to do with each other.

Two things have happened in the last 5 years or so.

The min wage has increased DRASTICALLY faster then ever before in US history.

The cost of living has increased DRASTICALLY faster than ever before in us history.

Perhaps they are un-related....but in areas where one did not happen, the other didn't either.

There are exceptions where the cost of living went up FIRST drastically (like the bay area) and then min wage went up, but then the cost of living went up AGAIN to compensate.

There may be somewhere out there where the min wage went up and cost of living did not increase to match it, I have not heard of it, but it's possible, but at this point it would be an aberration, or exception.

Of COURSE cost of living goes up without min wage changing, it has forever, but it was a slow steady process for the most part. The rapid increase in min wage though caused an extreme spike in cost of living in the same areas, and from what I have seen, the cost of living increase not only invalidated the min wage increase all together, it made life much harder for everyone who wasn't making min wage in the first place (other then the extremely wealthy who probably didn't even notice it.)

I'm currently reading Dune, it's pretty good

Suggest you read the first book, skip the second and third, and then read the rest.

Wish I had done it that way.

I read dune the first time when I was around 5 years old, I made it through dune, but it was only meh to me at that point. I didn't make it through the second book though.

Went back and read them all a few years later, enjoyed dune alot more (became one of my favorite books) but still wasn't a big fan of the second and I stopped midway through the third.

Was in my teens before I read the rest of them, which get quite good again after the third book (or did for me). Wish I had just skipped book 2 and 3 all together.

That's a sad story. I certainly don't sound good singing with my monotone voice but I enjoy trying!

Prob has more to do with my place in life then the knowledge that my voice sucks, although I'm sure that would have factored in anyway.

I sang when I was happy, which doesn't happen much anymore. No more family, no friends where I live now, and I'm totally isolated down here in the basement. Kinda hard to find reasons to sing lately.

I'm one of those guys.

Yep.

The ones that thought they had a great voice for most of their lives.

I used to sing all the time! I sang at bars, I sang while cooking, I sang randomly when I woke up.

To me, my voice sounded GREAT!! My wife liked me singing, nobody ever said anything about me not having a great voice.

Then a few years ago, there was a singing app on my ipad, you could sing songs with other people. I did it, and then I heard myself singing.

I do not sing well.

I asked friends and they were like "Yeah, but your so enthusiatic" lol.

Nobody, in 40+ years, told my I couldn't sing.

I don't sing much anymore.

5% of profits from what, Amazon? Amazon has 840k employees. The net income in 2019 was 11.588b. 5% would be $579.4m, spread across 840k employees... that'd be $689 each. Hardly "doubling" their income. On a per-hour basis, it would only be another 34-cents.

See, that is my point, the "profits" are what they are taxed on, so it makes sense to downplay it and "re-invest" as much as you can.

I think a profit sharing approach would be far better, and it certainly would give more then $579 per employee if done fairly. The problem is setting it up to be both fair, and still make the company profitable etc.

I've seen it done before and work very well (and employees got quite a bit more than $600 a year, but not double their base salary). I would say that you should even factor it into your base pricing, and that people would be willing to pay a bit more if they knew a company used profit sharing for their employees (which I think ben an jerry's did and a few other companies in the past and they did get more buisiness because of it).

I believe for instance that each mc donalds brach averaged over 3 million in sales last year (on average). While I would not say employees should split 5% of 3 million, I would say increasing prices in order to have 5% profit sharing (and you wouldn't need to increase them by 5% even due to the way that works for taxes etc), would have a massive impact on how happy and motivated your employees were, more people would shop there because they know about the profit sharing and the cost of a burger would go up 1 or 2 cents.

Meanwhile, when they boosted min wage, Mc D's boosted prices by 30-50% across the board, while not actually boosting the employees wages unless forced to (and certainly never boosted them 30-50%). Even if they HAD boosted employees wages that much, it wouldn't have made such a large price increase neccesary.

Profit sharing IS taxes, but it's taxed from the employees, not the company itself as it's a form of wages. It should not come out of the end net profit, and because of the tax rate the companies SHOULD be paying, it ends up actually being even less than 5%.

It also works a bit better when a company doesn't have thousands and thousands of employees to split the profit with (although even there it can at least be a decent bonus).

If you have say 3 shifts at a mc D's, and a manager (so 10 employees on average 40 hours a week), and the revenue is 3 mill per year, 5% of that would be 150k or 15k extra income a year, basically double the base salary of those employees. Meanwhile you boost the price of burgers by 3% or so to compensate (might be 4% not gonna do the math).

Now a 3$ burger costs a while 3.03 cents, but your employees are making 2x as much money, your franchise owners are making just as much profit, and everybody is happy.

Those employees who were making $10/hr (if they were lucky) before, and netting about $1000-$1200 a month, are now making double that....$2100-$2500 per month. And all of that only costs the customer a tiny amount more (and even that could probably be avoided because of additional sales/profit from selling more, higher productivity, happier more positive employees etc).

Companies have specials and deals etc, that give way more then 5% off on items, with little effect. Giving 5% (technically less) of the sale price to the employees is minor in comparison, but would have a much larger impact all around.

Zeus, we often don't agree on things, but i'm curious on your take on profit sharing.

I'm a strong believer that it would help fix most of the problems we have. Even a small amount of profit sharing would improve productivity, and ensure every worker had enough money to live comfortably. While it would obviously be much better for some than others, it would allow a total increase in profits for the actual workers (not just the ones making min wage etc), it would boost the actual profits of the company (possibly even compensating for the entire amount being used for profit sharing), and it would increase employee loyalty and satisfaction.

It would require some safeguard to ensure large companies like...oh say amazon...didn't declare no profits at all for the year they made billions in profits (but re-invested it). In fact, I believe the profit sharing should be based on gross profits before any re-investments etc, meaning a company could not use that money to invest with as it already had to go to the employees.

Something like a 5% share of profits with all employees (equally), is what I'm thinking. I did the research once and for most low paying jobs that would just about double their income.
