ctes: Kind of a mixed bag really. It's an awful addition to Dugtrio giving it surfer hair, and this will probably be ranked low as a result, but it's funny in itself and it's a godsend for in-game use. If it had Arena Trap as well, it would also be a godsend for competive use as it could reliably trap quite a few fairy types and destroy thme with Iron Head. Dugtrio in OU is extremely flexiable, because it has one job, plenty of room for Iron Head. Thinking about it, it would've probably gotten banned in no time.

StifledSilence: Taking a cue from Mega Ampharos, Alola Dugtrio wanted to get in on the shampoo commercials.

XIII: Luscious hair, as everyone will probably say. So luscious

NFUN: Fabulous.

Luster Soldier: A much improved design over regular Dugtrio. This is a pretty funny looking Pokemon that's got hair resembling a wig of some sort.

Paratroopa1: this guy is IMPOSSIBLE to rank because on one hand, dugtrio sucks and they just slapped some wigs on him and it's ridiculous, but ON THE OTHER HAND it's quickly diving into 'so stupid it's funny' territory like they're totally selfaware about how much this thing sucks, and the fact that its suckiness really pissed people off when they were hoping for like a dark type arcanine or some shit (DARKANINE hell yes) makes it really hilarious because I love it when people get cheesed off about pokemon designs but uh yeah it still sucks.

PrinceKaro: We already had enough fake mega evolutions with Fabio hair, we did not need this thing.

hotdogturtle: Xurkitree was my favorite design when the stills of the UBs first leaked. But after seeing it in motion and in battle, it's not as good as I thought/hoped.

XIII: This thing is so fucking weird and I love it. The weirdest and therefore probably the coolest and best UB.

Paratroopa1: god I really think that this is just the name to end all names. this is it. everyone go home, we found the best one, go home

Cybat: I didn't like this guy at all when I first saw it, but it grew on me (har). Its name in particular took me a bit to figure out until I said it out loud. I wish it were actually a Grass type though.

Raka_Putra: It sounds like Togepi's cry from the anime. 'Xurkitreeee~'

ctes: Xurkitree is honestly kinda lame. It hits overly hard with its special electric attacks, but it's honestly kinda ass beyond that. With Baton Pass banned, Scolipede can no longer make this thing useful and despite its insane special attack, it's honestly kinda ass on its own. It's also boring looking as hell. Hopefully they explore upon Ultra Beasts in the next games (which is almost confirmed by name) and this thing gets more interesting.

Luster Soldier: Despite the strong resemblance of this design to the character Guzma, this was not done intentionally. A popular fan theory is some of the Ultra Beasts were based off the designs of certain characters, though I see no evidence in the game or any other sources to support this theory.

All of the Ultra Beasts have very strange stat distributions. Actually, their base stats are all prime numbers that happen to add up to 570 BST. The pre-release game leak had people freaking out when Xurkitree was discovered to have 173 Special Attack and access to Tail Glow to boost that even more. However, Xurkitree turns to be even worse than Kartana since it's hurt by a rather average speed stat and below average defensive stats, so setting up Tail Glow isn't easy.

MrSmartGuy: Circuitry

PrinceKaro: This thing is so stupid it crosses the line of self parody. You show this to anyone before info on the games had come out, and they would in no way believe it is fucking real.

Ermine: All of the Ultra Beasts are terrible and a complete waste of space, except for MAYBE Necrozma.

XIII: Cool concept for a Pokemon. Rare case of the NFE being better in my book.

ctes: I was skeptical at first, but I really do love this thing. I really hope that they make more of it if they remake DPP. Feature it along with Arceus. It's super cool, but it was barely focused upon. Seemed really unfinished. But let me quickly adress how bulls*** it is that its speed is so much lower than its other equal stats. Of all things, why speed. Game Freak has completely overdone it by not giving anything speed.

OrangeCrush: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

hotdogturtle: I liked how pieced-together its design was, it really drove home the point about it being artificially created. Then we found out that it had an evolution and it became crappy, then people got hyped about using the Eviolite, then people realized that that was bad. Now I just feel that it's a waste of a cool design.

MrSmartGuy: I like the new type, but why did they just name a new Pokemon that? Bizarre decision.

Luster Soldier: One of the most unusual names ever given to a Pokemon. When I first saw the name appear in a reveal trailer, I thought this was going to be a typeless Pokemon. Then it was revealed to be Normal type instead. Type: Null could easily pass as a fully evolved Pokemon or a standalone Pokemon based on its design, but then it was later revealed to have an evolution. The design doesn't even go through any major changes upon evolving, losing just its helmet when it evolves. It's hard to imagine this Pokemon being an NFE, since it has a BST of 534. It has the highest total BST for an NFE, even higher than the BST of Scyther.

swordz9: Iron Mask Pokemon

Inviso: It's a mishmosh, and I respect and understand that…but it's still kinda ugly and friendship evolutions are annoying.

mnkboy907: People were so confused when this thing was revealed, lol. That was probably the best thing about it.

Cybat: I have mixed feelings about this thing. I obviously understand they were going for a striking, artificial-looking design, which they sort of did achieve, but it leaves something to be desired. And that name! Come on, scientists, you can do better than that.

OrangeCrush: When I saw Acerola use one of these, I knew I had to get one. I just wish it was a bit better in battle...

XIII: I get the feeling this is a Pokemon that misguided folks will look at and think "they're running out of ideas!" but I think it's great

Cybat: I know a lot of people don't like the "thing" Pokemon, but I kind of have a soft spot for many of them, and this one is no exception. Its design is a little busy, but its concept is strong, and whee more signature moves!

mnkboy907: We had 0 Ghost/Grass types in Gen V and now suddenly we have 4 in Gen VII. Well okay then. It's cool in its weirdness.

Raka_Putra: Heck yeah, sick design.

Inviso: Why the hell did we need ANOTHER Grass/Ghost Pokemon after we had TWO last gen and a Grass/Ghost STARTER this gen? Dhelmise is just pointless in my opinion. Throw in Water or Steel (or both) and this might be decent, but GRASS? REALLY? It's decent in combat, but it comes so late in the game that it doesn't inspire me to use it.

Luster Soldier: Hmm, a Pokemon based on an anchor. This is another Pokemon based on an inanimate object, which are known for being hated by some people (see Klefki as an notable example of this). When inanimate objects are turned into Pokemon, they are less likely to be hated if they happen to be Ghost type. At least with Dhelmise, you could use the Ghost typing as an argument to say that it's an inanimate object that just happens to be possessed by a ghost. Dhelmise is also the only Pokemon that receives STAB on 3 different types, thanks to the Steelworker ability.

Paratroopa1: I think I'm mostly just sold on this by the compass looking like an eye, that's really cool

ctes: Dhelmise is really weird honestly. I was so surprised when I saw it for the first time after fishing up. There were so few Pokemon not revealed and I saw I think all other leaked ones too. I had no idea this thing is existed. It was fun figuring its type trying to catch the darn thing, but beyond that it's nothing special. Ghost / Grass has been seriously overdone the last two generations, it's not that great a typing and Dhelmise is pretty useless.

Brayze_II: this seems to have really piqued people’s imaginations in a non-pornographic way, which is highly unusual, this is the girliest non mismagius tit-fucking image I could find

Damn, my write-up looks really bad now. I assumed it going be ranked the lowest from the Ultra Beasts since it has the most ugly looking design.

If Guzzlord had been intended as a regular Pokemon instead of an Ultra Beast, I would have had it even lower on my list. But I gave Game Freak some leniency here considering what they were trying to do with the Ultra Beasts (depicting them as creatures from another dimension).

profDEADPOOL: Owliver Queen best starter family

ctes: Dartrix is a cool looking Pokemon. It suffers from middle evolution syndrome, which I like to call it. Stuck between a fantastic basic form and a super cool final form. But it's good looking for what it is.

Cybat: It really looks like a teenager. I also enjoy the contrast between the Sun and Moon Pokedex entries for it: " A bit of a dandy, it spends its free time preening its wings. Its preoccupation with any dirt on its plumage can leave it unable to battle." " It throws sharp feathers called blade quills at enemies or prey. It seldom misses. "

Luster Soldier: As a middle line starter, Dartrix finds itself outclassed greatly by Rowlet who is much cuter and also Decidueye which has the cool/badass factor locked up. Dartrix's design is also a step back from Rowlet as I find Rowlet's "roundness" much more appealing than Dartrix looking like a generic owl.

StifledSilence: Weird butler owl or whatever.

Paratroopa1: I talked about the awkward puberty phase with middle bird evos earlier but I think they might have taken it literally here. this actually looks like someone's depiction of a moody teenaged owl.

mnkboy907: Poor awkward teenager owl. No one understands how hard it is to be a rich kid when Robin Hood is your father. :(

PrinceKaro: This pokemon's everyday struggles with constipation are surpassed only by Wobbuffet.

OrangeCrush: Dragon Grandpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

swordz9: Too bad it doesn't evolve making it a waste of space

Luster Soldier: Hahaha, another derpy looking Dragon type (along with Dragonite and Goodra). This time we've got an grandpa dragon. Old man dragon isn't quite as good compared to Dragonite and Goodra, but still pretty cool. Normal/Dragon is a rather interesting typing, as the 2 types both have very high neutral coverage for attacking. Like many of the new Pokemon, it's brutally slow.

Paratroopa1: I kinda wasn't into this dude originally but then like I dunno I got used to his big weird red eyes and everything was better. also I like this guy because he REALLY supports my "dragon type = long neck" theory. we've probably been over this, but seriously - every fully-evolved dragon type in the fucking series has a long neck. it's universal!

Inviso: It's ugly, but it's kind of a badass if you teach it the right special attacks.

mnkboy907: An oddball for sure, but it's not bad. Would've been better without the gumdrop eyes and macaroni eye brows.

StifledSilence: Dangan Drampa

Brayze_II: a search for sexy drampa turned up some super sexy grandpas

ctes: Drampa has a super forced typing, which they clearly picked for it before making it. It looks utterly hidious and it's complete trash. Not really possible to say anything positive about something like this abomination. It doesn't look as offensively bad as some others and isn't as annoying, but that isn't really positive traits.

Raka_Putra: Ability: Cataract Eyes. The accuracy of this Pokemon's moves is halved each turn.

Cybat: I know this thing is based on Chinese mythology or something that I'm not familiar with, but I just can't deal with how silly it looks. Also one of way too many single-stage Pokemon this gen that are wholly unremarkable.

I remember a cartoon from when I was a kid where a guy complained that old people should be killed at birth, and now we have a pokemon that's born old.

Brayze_II: well that escalated quickly

hotdogturtle: They clearly used all of their effort on the first UB and then gave up. It's the only one with a unique type combo and the only one to appear in the story. IMO it looks the most "otherworldly" because it doesn't even have a face (I guess Xurkitree doesn't either but at least it's humanoid). Poison is in a great place in gen 7 and Nihilego is right there on my mono-Poison team. Hearing its cry always reminds me of that segment of the plot, which is nice because I actually enjoyed that whole part of the game.

OrangeCrush: Loli octopus FTW

MrSmartGuy: Nihil is a concept I can absolutely relate to.

Luster Soldier: Out of all the Ultra Beasts, I think this will probably be the most popular. It has the most exposure in-game as part of the story and is the one Ultra Beast that could pass as a normal looking Pokemon design. In my Guzzlord write-up, I talked about the highly unusual designs of the Ultra Beasts and how they're much different than the Pokemon designs we've been used to in the past. Nihilego is also our first ever Poison type legendary, something which was long overdue.

mnkboy907: A Rock-type made of glass is a cool concept. Would've been better if they'd been more subtle in the Lillie similarity.

Paratroopa1: remember when people were like oh holy crap this thing isn't a pokemon, it's some kind of SPECIAL THING? no of course it's a pokemon dummy. what else would it be. what kind of game could this be if you COULDN'T catch this cool ass jellyfish monster. it wouldn't be pokemon. this is pokemon.

swordz9: Tentacle monster

Raka_Putra: I love the red herring that it looks like Lillie. Turns out it's the other way around.

ctes: Nihilego has a very interesting typing, which is the first thing that stands out about it (if you know it anyway). Poison / Rock is kinda odd, but because of that it works well on one of the Ultra Beasts. I do hope they explore those more. Nihilego comes with a crucial weakness to earthquake to due its typing and trash defense stat. While interesting, it is kinda plain though. Gets an average ranking.

Cybat: As the first Ultra Beast you meet, it does a pretty good job of establishing their foreignness. But the stars on its body are a little too cutesy for me, its typing makes no sense, and its name is very odd (and hard to pronounce). Lusamine fusing with one was a great moment though.

StifledSilence: Leggo my Nihileggo

Inviso: Unique typing for a legendary, and it's wasted on this crappy design. Weak.

Ermine: All of the Ultra Beasts are terrible and a complete waste of space, except for MAYBE Necrozma.
