Homosexuality is becoming more accepted in civilized society.

It's still hated and loathed in any religious society that has control. The Catholic Church just as we speak demanded that no Bishops and Preists are allowed to bless gay people.

As far as I know, only Germany had Bishops and Preist revolt against the Pope and say they're going to do it anyway and that's because Germany is so secular that those Bishops know doing that shit just means they'll lose even more followers.

Christianity isn't accepting homosexuality, civilization is accepting homosexuality and Christians in civilized societies are having to choose between begrudgingly coming along for the ride against their will or dying off.

And I'm not picking on Christians. Islam and Judaism are even stricer against it because they still have power in their communities.

If Christianity had the power in Western Europe and America and Canada and New Zealand that Islam has in the Sudan, do you think they would accept homosexuality?

I'm not trying to yell at you. I just hate it that people credit the work and progression of people who aren't religious and then act like it's religion becoming progressive when it's the opposite.

It's not "Christians have progressed but there's still a few crazies around." it's "Christians are the same as ever but societies with less Christians in them are more progressive so some churches are having to submit in order to keep their numbers"

Going "Well my Cousin is gay and had a Christian wedding!" is nice but it's not a sign of Christian progressiveness when every Christian organized body and the vast majority of Christian followers would call that evil and sinful.

Your example is the minority and as I said (that you ignored) only exists at all due to intense pressure from non religious entities. Take that pressure from real progressives away and no church would touch your cousin.

And your acceptance/denial of that is potentially harmful because it continues to slow down actual progression. When really the "Good" minority Christians and their apologists need to be the most vocal right now for actual change within the church.

If within the next few generations there is another surge in religious belief (which is not off the table) I'd want it to regain the progressive attitudes we've enjoyed due to the actions of non-religious people. When you pretend they don't exist and the progression came from the chuch (while they actively fight it) it means that if such a surge occurs, all the hate and bigotry we around the world in countries with powerful religious bodies will just come back.

But my point is that the Germans denying that are not doing so because of Christian Values. They're actively defying Christian values. They're doing it because 40% of the country is Atheist and rising every year while only a small minority of the 50% Christians there (which plummets every where) are practicing. It's a secular country.

If they go along with the homophobia, those numbers continue to change.

The progression isn't coming from the religion, it's coming from non religious people and the religious people are having to come along for the ride reluctantly in order to not die out.

In areas where they don't have to do this in order to not die out, the hatred and bigotry in the religion remains. Hence the Pope saying you're not allowed to bless gay people.

If you continue to ignore this, you just empower the bigotry with your feigned ignorance.

The progression is due to non-believers.

Alright alright alright alright. I get wher your coming from. I have a friend who is atheist because his dad loked to locked in the closet to remove his sins and crazy shit like that. As for how would society be if christianity ruled, then yeah it would be bigoted unfortunately. There are those that preach love like it is meant to be but they are obviously a minority. But they do exist.

I also never denied the progress from being from non-believers or said the progress was only from within the church. But progress is being made now especially with how diverse our society is becoming. People are becoming more accepting of others as a whole. But not all progress is from nonbelievers, some believers like me see that it makes no sense to hate someone for a perceived sin when we are all filled with sin. Hell non of the teaching outright says homosexuality is forbidden except in new translations. The first mention of man must not sleep with man as he does his wife, comes off as more fuckin dudes is still cheating. The other mentioned in Paul is him talking about the clergy sleeping with little boys, but he was bringing up the sins that, that specific church had in its congregation.

There is a lot that I see and other Christian's do see as well. Yes it is a small section of the church and most still have bigoted views but the seed is planted. GOD will water it and nurture it. It will grow. I have faith that it will.

As one of the people who voted no-- it wasn't because she was religious. It was because she would need to pray before having sex, which would kill the mood for me. I'd be fine with dating a religious chick, but that's a step too far.

As a christian it would not change my opinion. Especially since I feel muslims are our brothers and sisters in faith. Since we worship the same GOD. Only difference is I would believe in jesus and she wouldn't. Kids be able to choose whichever they want to follow. Ideally this would give them a better understanding of GOD and maybe, just maybe they make a unified religion with both.

Yeah that's true. He is considered a prophet, just not the son of GOD. But they have Muhammad. Who I do believe was a prophet that was close with GOD. Him saying if he went to far he would want GOD to kill him in a very specific way. He went to far and GOD killed him in that very specific way. That in itself shows the power of GOD. I know it is offense to Muslims to talk about muhammad in that kind of way, but it's true. I need to read the Quran for myself but I hear that in the first half he talks about the love of GOD and then about half way he takes a turn toward more violent stuff or something like that. Been a while since I read up on it. So I apologize for my ignorance on the matter. Either way I believe their should be peace between the factions of Abraham.
