This is the very reason it's fine to do it in the tub. Can you imagine how disgusting the area around the toilet is? How about how disgusting your pants get from the inevitable spray or splash that happens? Then what, you go sit on the couch or something spreading the urine everywhere. This is something literally nobody ever thinks of. It's nasty. Do you disinfect the floor, wall, toilet seat every single time you pee to wash away the micro splatter?

I clean my toilet a heck of a lot more often than I clean my shower and am not stepping in my toilet is the difference

Soap and body wash rushing over the floor of your shower is not cleaning your shower

Unless you all are rubbing that into the floor you aren't meaningfully cleaning the surfaces of your shower just deluding yourself into thinking you're not being disgusting to make you feel less bad about having no self restraint.

We have to lather when we clean for a reason. Just soap touching a surface is not sufficient to clean it.

And like I mean I've said it multiple times it's not really THAT big a deal

My issue is less that I think it's completely disgusting and more that it's so easy to not do it and people are saying "well there's water and soap" like that means anything. That's not how cleaning actually works.

There are worse things I do. Like sometimes I miss a day of cleaning the cat litter box due to being busy. That's more gross than this. Cats in a dirty litterbox are more likely to touch their paws to poo and track the bacteria and whatnot from the poo around the house for a bit.

But it's so easy to not do this. It's effortless.

If anyone said "yeah I do it and it's kinda gross but I'm okay with it" I'd have no issue. The self delusion rampant in this topic is the problem.

You're being gross. Just own it. Don't call the people who are calling you gross OCD clean freaks or try to rationalize it because of third world countries having poor living conditions or splash on the toilet or whatever else.

Just think hundreds of years in the future in our Star Trekian utopia people will look back on this with the same disgust we do at open sewers in the middle ages.

Pee is gross, sure, but you are still more likely to get piss on yourself that stays there from using a urinal than you are from peeing in the shower.

If you're going to use the comparison of cleaning shower to toilet, then go ahead and see which one builds up grime quicker - it's the toilet. Turns out that running water is actually pretty good at keeping things moving. Not foolproof, no, but pretty good. But that's all negligible because, again, you're washing yourself in the shower anyway.

Belief that using a toilet is less gross is just ingrained societal connotation. I mean, if the key element is "piss is gross", then only one of the options so far is best at you coming away cleanest.

There's probably more people who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom than people who pee in the shower.

I'd also imagine the vast majority of men stand when peeing (at home) when if you're worried about cleanliness of your home at least you should probably sit. I guess you can debate whether it's more hygienic personally to stand.

I don't pee in the shower and I don't get why people do it but whatever, it has zero effect on me outside of hotels I guess. So people can do whatever they want.

First of all, it is a completely avoidable and unnecessary act to pee in the shower. People who do it, do it intentionally as part of their shower routine. And it is absolutely disgusting.

And I doubt all of you are hydro homies, meaning that your pee is sometimes very yellow and stinky. I really hope you are thoroughly cleaning that shower on a very regular basis!

I mean, maybe if you are the only one who uses that shower, I guess you can wallow in your own filth if you want. Still makes you disgusting, but that's about it. But if you share that shower with other people, not only are you a disgusting slob, but you're also an inconsiderate asshole for making other people shower in your piss remnants. And remember, this is a completely avoidable and unnecessary act.

The final frustrating thing is the denial. I don't know if I ever met a shower pisser who was like "yeah, I know its kinda gross but I do it anyway". They always stand their ground that it's not disgusting at all, but rather a perfectly normal action. It's kinda like trying to reason with a predatory reseller that what they are doing is wrong. You can't rationalize with them. They are firm in their beliefs that they're not wrong. Now I'm not comparing predatory resellers to shower pissers, I'm just comparing their defensive denial of what is in my opinion a blatantly disgusting act, that, which bears repeating, is absolutely unnecessary to do in the first place.

Just piss in the damn toilet!

Sigh....I almost feel like this is the other side of the coin to the whole wiping conversation. So many people don't wipe properly after they take a poo. You know, the people who get skid marks in their underwear because they follow "three wipes and your done" or "ball up the toilet paper, one big wipe, and your done" or "I don't wipe because it's gay." There are so many personal hygiene quirks people develop because they don't teach this stuff in school and parents don't really reinforce it once the kid is independent in the bathroom.

If you did all your peeing in the shower ot would be a lot closer-- the reason the toilet builds up quicker isn't primarily the running water but the amount of use (and the lack of pooping in it)

Toilets are fairly isolated from stuff in a bathroom by design-- yes there is splash. If you have a toilet right by your sink that's a design flaw in your bathroom.

I mean yes, this is all valid, that's why it's only a little gross and not super gross. Saying it's completely fine is the issue. It's not completely fine. You just are a little gross. And that is completely fine.

But I clean my shower on the reg. And my toilet!

Real talk - for those of you who don't shave in the shower... where is your body when you shave the parts that aren't on your face or neck?

You are vastly overestimating the power of "pee build up".

My general thought with this subject anyway is that, when it comes to hygiene, everyone draws lines in their own unique ways that sometimes make little sense. And when you consider the truth of how hygienic some things actually are, people's established notions are flown out the window. Like, guff_guy in this topic put his foot down about shower peeing but I can guarantee he does some other things that are less hygienic.

I mean I literally cited an example that I think is less hygienic that I do (missing a day cleaning the cat box)

It's not a hygiene competition it's getting people to accept that what they're doing is not "completely fine because there is running water and soap involved" and they're making a choice to be a little gross for the sake of convenience or whatever else. And because it's so easy to just not do it it's really silly.

It's like kids who pee in public pools. With the amount of chlorination and dilution those pools have it's functionally not a huge deal but man it's still gross (and most people wouldn't debate that-- the difference is most people aren't pool pee-ers so they're not defensive) and I feel like it's probably less gross than peeing in your shower overall.

Like, if we get into the weeds though, peeing in your shower and swimming in a public pool are both more sanitary than using a public drinking fountain.

When the outcome is something you perceive as under your control, and thus totally avoidable, you feel way more strongly about it. You can't really do anything about kids peeing in pools so why worry.

An opinion so crazy (to me) that I almost want to make a new topic with that as a poll.

I was just at a public bathroom which reminded me of another thing that is 100-1000x as unsanitary: Using a urinal with the slight splash back

Never mind getting piss on your feet, if you walk outdoors with your shoes, and then walk your shoes into the house even just a little (like into an entryway/mudroom), you are tracking things much more vile and disgusting than urine into the place that you walk around barefoot.

Unless you never walk in your house barefoot, I guess. But then it's just getting on your socks which get all over everything else, so same thing.
