i feel like the classes with dual wielding swords and shields are a little underwhelming in a way, since it doesn't stack the stat gains, only keeping the higher ones ithink

obviously it does mean that you have an excuse to put some cool gimmick-based secondary shield on her though which is nice, but it still kind of feels like units with dual slots there are at a disadvantage compared to ones who get more accessory slots instead

(virginia herself is still a great unit though. would say she's not quite on the same level as say berengaria or amalia as far as units from that section go but still very solid)

Starting to get more if a hassle on Gambits/Tactics

Things like when and when you should to prioritize or only.

I realized last fight that Scarlett, who I have Resurrection on, spent her last heal on an already full health unit instead of reviving a dead one, because my Gambit technically was set up to always heal by the lack of telling it when NOT to.

There are some conditions In would like to see here that aren't.

I understand why "avoid armored" isn't here, feels like that would fuck with balance. For some niche stuff though In would like to see "row combatant is in", for things like Cavalier Call. I guess there's not much point in a formation that has Cavaliers in different Rows, though.....unless it's all Cavs.

Is it possible to see who will die in the battle preview? It seems like it should be there but I don't see it. Sometimes I'm surprised and see someone die I thought for sure would live but somebody else got healed so the damage numbers are deceptive

Is there something that indicates a party won't be able to retaliate in the battle preview from stuff like waiting? I feel like I see that my team can do damage but then they don't do anything and I smack my forehead.

Is it possible to rearrange tactics? It seems like you can only replace existing rows which is enormously annoying, if i wanna add something to the top i have to change every single item instead of just adding one item and shifting the rest down

You can't see who will die, but if you see a total HO.loss lower than your lowest HP unit, I would recommend going into your formation and moving tactics or characters around to see if any of that has an effect. I had 5 minutes left before break so I could check why, but I had a fight this afternoon where moving an Archer to the front row caused me to go from losing a fight to killing with zero HP loss.

You can never retailiate while waiting. However, you still retaliate if you have zero stamina but aren't waiting, with zero penalty. So if you see an approaching enemy to a zero stamina squad that you should be able to take, you can wait until you kill them before actually waiting. Or just pop a nut.

I'm not sure what you mean by the last one. Hitting Square (or Y on Switch) lets you sort you tactics, or am I misunderstanding the issue?

like i mentioned for it i managed with a team of lv29s/30s and one of them was josef, so kind of practically less than 29s and 30s on average lol. the weapons you get in the shop for it make a pretty big difference, i think it'd have been doable around an average of maybe lv26 or so but i'd already done the grinding to 30 at the one grind point in the chapter 3 area when i gave it a go

if you do a good evasion team it's very likely doable as soon as you get there too, a mostly high evasion team + sandstorm staff just seems like autowin against every team that doesn't have truestrikes. the only catch is you have to sacrifice evasion on the sandstorm user for high initiative instead

I think it would've been cool if the game had the option of allowing the optional battles/quests to scale with your level or progress (like letting the player choose if they want set levels or scaling levels). I guess I'm not sure how they could adjust the wandering enemies to account for that, though.

I was just disappointed when the map opened up, but the north was behind a level 25 battle. I see from Ermine that it's possible to do that one early (maybe with that one character's summons that weirdly align with the battle level and not the character's?), but presumably everything beyond that is also in the 20s-30s, so I still wouldn't want to go up and recruit anyone that much stronger so soon.

It's a side effect of allowing so much freedom in exploration, it gives the impression that you're meant to be able to go in any direction, and you CAN, but really it's just for people who want to get weird with it. The actual intended flow becomes obvious when the final fight of the eastern lands is the same level recommendation as the first fight in the southeast.

Doesn't mean I can't run around collecting resources early like a madman, though.

The structure of the combat does mean that getting 1 or two overpowered units early isn't going to break the game or anything, at least.

That's exactly what I did yeah. I'm not the biggest fan of sequence breaking but I also didn't want to get the character I wanted like 5 hours before the end of the game and spend like 30 hours getting to them. It's like, why bother playing then if I don't even get to use the guy I wanna use when there's barely any game left afterwards.

That's a problem with a ton of RPGs though. You get a really cool character near the end of the game that you can use for all of like 5% of it. Wow, thanks guys. Can't wait to use my fav character for all of 10 minutes LOL

Yeah, I'm just a basic bitch doing everything in level order so far. So I'll be going back and forth between Drakengard and northern Cornia for a bit, I guess. But yeah, it was also a bit of a bummer to see Elheim and Drakengard weren't balanced between each other.

I also find myself falling into a rut with my units. After the Scarlett mission, instead of figuring out ways to shift and integrate these four characters into other units... I just stuck all of them together in a new unit, lol. Hopefully this isn't a sign of losing interest in the mechanics.

The game is going to definitely ask you to be more careful about your unit placement and tactics in the future. When my characters were around level 12 or so, I was stunned to find some of my best teams getting whooped for seemingly no reason at first by enemies that did not seem to be particularly designed to be good against my team.

I am often amazed at how moving a single unit in a formation to a different tile can completely change the flow of a battle.

Part of this too is that changing the formation also changes the RNG of the fight. In the first scenario, perhaps you just got bad RNG for the fight, but on the change in formation, perhaps you get a few dodges and extra crits that completely turn the fight in the other direction.

They put two Lady Warriors like back to back (I guess maybe not depending on the order you do things), and while I appreciate having more alternative to use Santa Clause man for that job I'm not sure why.

I'm also definitely not promoting that fuckboi Auch, so hopefully I get another Wizard or prepromote equivalent lol.

At least Etolinde is doing serious magic damage and looking good while doing it.

I was a bit surprised how much of a sausage party it was in the beginning, but now it has quickly become a harem army. Like my last 8+ recruits have all been women, and it sounds like the next one will be too.

I want to go back to the stronk men. :( I liked that Bryce guy. They shoulda given me him over Nina tbqh. (I know he's recruited later)

I got Hilda last night and I'm happy that the recruitable angry redheaded Wyvern Knight woman who is loyal to the enemy army trope is alive and well from Fire Emblem. Definitely intentional.

Also the major story fight right after (way easier than it should have been, defend maps should have more bite) gives you 2 Hand Mirrors, so I was able to fix her baffling growth rates immediately.

I think I figured out the disparity between EXP of promoted versus unprompted units.

It's not that limited units get less or require more Exp, It's that there's some kind of hidden value effecting at which point they start getting Red Exp from a battle.

I had Hilda Iin a Squad at level 16 promoted, with 3 unprompted level 17 units, yet she's the only one who gained Red EXP. In the next fight, one of the enemy units was promoted. And her EXP was no longer red and the bar filled just as much as the rest of them.

Okay one thing that's bugging me a lot is sending a unit to take a stronghold and it wins with 0 stamina left.

You either have to do a full wait or use an item to restore stamina... you can't just walk in and take it. This just.... feels very unsatisfying every time

Especially since it gives you stamina just for taking it - you are intended to take it with low stamina after a battle. The idea that I'm just always supposed to perfectly be at 1-2 stamina is just not going to happen often.

I guess the idea of not auto taking the fort is Incase you want to give the stamina to a different unit it.

It should be something it asks you after winning the fight, I think.

above is probably true, but i also suppose the biggest idea they had there was they didn't want to make it as easy to farm stamina off enemies reclaiming forts when they want to encourage active use of camps instead. also to make that one stage a little harder i guess

oh and likewise because in a worst case scenario, you don't just instantly lose when you have a unit wipe while defending your base (or else have the player feel like they have an inherent advantage over the enemy side because they can instantly claim stuff the other side can't)

i like the system because it contributes to how the game incentivises planning around fielding multiple units for objectives which i think it's better off for

I almost screwed up the first big fight in Drakengard. I just left Primm hanging out in the open at a campfire, got distracted with the base in the southwest, and then noticed too late that reinforcements from the eastern base were charging for her. Luckily I was able to keep her alive through multiple engagements by giving her that guard +20% accessory and healing items until someone else could save her.

There was a just a lot going on in that fight. It took me a long time, but mostly just because I wanted to spread the exp around instead of letting my more OP units wreck everyone.
