I enjoyed it too. My issue is just why screw up the timeline of the games then say its canon.

Just say you're changing the story from the games and give it its own spin. Continuing it from the games means now they have to handle the Courier. NV is all about the impact of the courier and how it shaped the region.

They already screwed up the NCR and Shady Sands

Even Fallout 2 decided on canon endings and decisions to base the sequel around.

If a new story references that setting it's gonna be a necessity to either pick something or wipe it clean. New Vegas did it with 2 as well.

Again, mad max. It started as mostly a wasteland, and then you had small collectives crop up around key infrastructure (The Road Warrior - Oil Refinery). Eventually something loosely resembling cities formed (Beyond Thunderdome - Bartertown) and by Fury Road you had multiple communities (bullet farm, gas town, the citadel, etc) - it even had areas like The Green Place that had reached a whole new level of decay. Societies forming doesn't mean any of them are good, but the Mad Max franchise shows you can absolutely do developments over time in that kind of world. Hell... the Walking Dead does more or less the same thing with zombies between issue 1 and the last issue.

If you're imagining a more developed Wasteland and the only story you can picture is a dude buying groceries, that's just your own lack of imagination, not a problem writers can't easily work around.

Fallout these days is overall designed around being an open world sandbox RPG. That's going to take precedence over anything else.

Sure the Fallout TV show could have done something else with it but their goal would have been for it to resemble the Bethesda Fallout games. That's the entire reason it exists. That's the IP they're banking on.

They don't and they never have. Fallout, Fallout 2,Fallout Tactics and New Vegas are all heads and shoulders better than any of the Fallout games that Bethesda has developed and hell, even Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is better than some of the Bethesda developed games which is just sad. Really wish Bethesda had never gotten their grubby mitts on that series. Microsoft should hand it over to inXile.

Fallout does have towns. It doesn't have major and modern cities.

The cities in Fallout 2 like Vault City were progressing to be pretty modern and futuristic. Nothing has really matched that since. Bethesda always want the series to look like it's post-apocalyptic. Towns are always going to be built around a ruin. Houses will always have skeletons in them. The roads will always be broken down. Etc.

I loved every minute of it. They nailed the Fallout 4 / 76 aesthetic. Fun characters, lots of good looking gore. Dark, but humorous. Some dramatic scenes. Great acting.

I do wish there were more wasteland creatures though. The axolotl-human hybrid Gulper was rad. And the episode where find out its origin was amazing.

I think it mentions the year that the NCR fell apart and/or was nuked which is a few years before the events of New Vegas.

If that's all it is, it's a little dramatic IMO. Pretty sure this is not the first timeline flub the series has had.

So it retcons New Vegas to happen earlier *shruggs*

Bit of a stretch to assume that just because one city got wiped off the map means the entire NCR collapsed. Shady Sands wasn't even the capital of the NCR, so their government is still likely intact.

I can't speak for anything else, but Shady Sands is 100% the capital.

The wiki suggests the capital was moved prior to it's destruction.

Saw the first episode eand I got giddy. It's a great show, still pissed at hearing them wrecking fallout 1 and 2. Haven't gotten to that part yet but I recommend anyone who is on the fence or upset, give the first episode a view and then make your decision to finish it or not.

Im pretty sure theyre addressing all this in the fallout 4 next gen patch next week

it's hard to believe they'd retcon the whole faction when that one scene has Lucy look at the NCR flag, and then the main theme kicks in as the camera holds on it. if the NCR isn't a thing, why the fanfare for something that none one even knows what it is?

The first Mad Max doesn't take place after the apocalypse. It takes place while society is in the process of collapsing. The Road Warrior takes place after the collapse.

NCR plays a part in the story. How they are used doesn't sit well with some fans. Without spoiling much of the story, they are wiped out

Maybe this will make people feel a bit better about the whole thing. Here is Timothy Cain's video on the Fallout TV show. There doesn't seem to be as much bad blood as people think.
