I'm not complaining about combat difficulty. I'm not saying there should be waypoints and GPS and the text and dialog screaming at me to do a thing. I just wanted a tab on the menu where I could be reminded of what the hell I was doing, especially when some side quests could be 20-30 hours in between doing any part of it. I still contend that Elden Ring suffers in some aspects from moving Souls to such a massive open-world.

I also like environmental puzzle games, but they'd be less fun if you didn't know that the puzzle covered 200 square miles, and that there'd be a bunch of other puzzles and distractions in that general direction. And if you forgot, whoops, should have had better memory. Replay the 100-hour game 3 times please.

personally I love that it does not have one. People are memeing about immersion but not having a checklist genuinely does help their games feel special. Wouldnt care if they eventually introduced one in future entries. Im sure they could find a way to do so thats still insanely obtuse. Map markers were essentially that.

I understand your frustration, but I also think you shouldn't be approaching most of the Elden Ring NPCs like you would in a typical RPG. Finding the reoccurring characters again is part of the endless discovery of the game. Or do you mean more like a glossary of everyone you met and what they last were doing? That'd be pretty cool actually.

It is a good Souls game with combat improvements. It's telling the same type of story as every other Souls game, but with even bigger lags between cutscenes, and that's fine! I like that kind of storytelling, but it's not reinventing storytelling as a concept. I also love David Lynch movies and Twin Peaks. Doesn't mean I shriek at less obtuse and vague writing for being inferior and outdated. Not saying all Souls fans are like this, but funny how the "It's not for you. Play something else" crowd want Elden Ring to be the template by which all other games are judged. "This game is linear. It's stupid. This game is too easy. It's stupid. This game is cinematic and tries to be emotional. It's stupid! This game isn't from Miyazaki! Stupid!"

It's just annoying imo. Like, there's a middle ground between tossing you into the middle of the Sahara without a map and literally picking you up and carrying you to every objective. I know it's a bad word for some fans, but a few more "options" would be nice.

Yeah, just something to remind me what the hell I'm doing. A glossary does sound cool. I wish EVERY game had that and a bestiary for lore sake. I totally get not turning it into Skyrim or whatever.

Notes: something about what they said.

It would make it so much easier to deal with npcs stuff after taking a few weeks off from the game. Most people are gonna use a guide for that stuff anyway, and it doesn't take off the exploration aspect as far as I can see. The npcs are already on the map anyways.

You're immune to understanding people want just one series to not have everything all other games have that take away from figuring it out themselves. Why do you gotta have every game and can't even just let people who don't have what they want get one. People like it and you don't care if you take it away from them as long as you get every game to cater to you specifically

I kept a notebook.

A notebook isn't gonna help you when an NPC warps to a completely different part of the world and when you eventually get there, it locks out another questline with no indication.

I love the warps lol. Iunno. Im not a completionist and I like the idea of letting the cards fall where they may and then also having the option to research it on a different playthrough if I want. It only really bothers people who can't just enjoy the ride. The chance of missing out ups my alertness to a level where in other games I don't have to put in any effort towards it.

There are a thousand linear games. There are a thousand open world games that hold your hand
How many games are like ER that don't care if you miss entire questlines?

Letting the fans of that style have one good game like that doesn't take away from the million Ubisoft or GoW/TLoU type games that hold your hand

Games have never been more diverse and that is a fact. I don't know how I'm taking away Souls games from anyone or being entitled.

By that logic, criticizing any game and merely suggesting a change (which obviously can't happen after the fact) is "entitlement".

Either love the game as the creators intended it or don't play it. Do you believe that? That criticism of a game, beyond literal bugs and glitches, is just someone outside of the intended audience not getting it?

Yeah, I didn't really mean a quest log, but I didn't know how to word it. Obviously we're all gonna miss stuff, but it sucks to meet a character, maybe even start liking them and then they just disappear and you never see a conclusion, never get whatever drop. Because you didn't go back to some place you cleared out (and indicated such with map markers) and they didn't even give you a verbal hint as to where they were going.

Imagine if a game's main plot just kind of disappeared.
