It may just be the case that we have to have smaller games until the board proves it can handle 20+ ones. This was kind of enacted a while ago due to general inactivity, but now I kind of think we need it because of the lack of confidence in a town successfully lynching 5+ scum in one game.
I'm in support of this, but again, look at the next few games on the queue (Sans the unknown Bible and NFL) <_<

If Peaf is okay with helping me co-host a different game instead of the one we've worked on, we could run either Thanksgiving (15 players) or Star Trek: The Original Series (19) instead and put 80s Cartoon off for another day. Both would take a bit of work to finish up, but both are in decent shape and there's time. <_<

Would be kinda weird to run Thanksgiving during summer, but everyone loves turkey year round, right? And Star Trek would probably have a little something for everyone to Klingon to. o_O

However much I've come to love our Cartoon Mafia stuff, JMast, I'd definitely love to work on a smaller game with you. Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about Star Trek, so I'd much rather run Thanksgiving with you over thanksgiving time. After August, Thanksgiving is really the next time I'm available, anyway!

People have a right to be frustrated with teammates (usually townies) if they give what they feel to be a sub-par performance, either effectively undoing all their good work earlier in the game, or because they fail to see what they deem to be obvious scumtells/powertells. I agree though that leaving it at that and expecting 'culprits' to learn from their own mistakes is an unproductive course of action. Chris has tried to improve peoples play in the past, whether tongue in cheek or not, but the truth is there's only so much you can teach people. You can tell people how to play and what to look for, but ultimately some people just lack the ability to rise to the occasion and/or act on what they've learned. Furthermore, a surprising number of players just fundamentally don't have common sense or the ability to rationally think things through, which is basically the one trait in common with all the best players (usually).

You're right in that a good place to start would be encouraging people to be more assertive, and not so easily lead by the mafia, whilst not going so far as to completely ignore, or even distrust the opinions of your teammates. It can make you sick to the stomach seeing how many games towns throw away in end-games because they let that final scum wriggle their way out of a hole and explain away all their scummy behaviour earlier in the game.

I think the only times I dislike someone's play is when they get modkilled. As town it hurts to have someone on your side die as it weakens the town as a whole and shrinks it, and as scum, it often feels dirty to see yourself win with modkills being a primary reason.

I guess there's all the times scum have gotten modkilled too but yeah, it definitely hurts when you're about to win or gain the upper hand over town and then one of your scumbuddies gets modkilled, that I'll admit.

I don't remember there being records anywhere but I imagine the majority of people would have more losses than wins. Mafia wins are more common than town wins here and only a minority can be mafia in any one game.

Going with the flow is fine with me too. Obviously I'd still like to host Cartoon and it's been ready to go for months, but it is true that this is a particularly long stretch of big games and having some smaller games go wouldn't be a bad thing right now.

Thanks for that Ulti, though I did kind of hoist myself by my own petard in K7 by going after Death. Also by tunneling you, I kind of lost focus of the big picture of the game and lost my ability to persuade the rest of the town as a result, something that will not happen again.

Though I still can't believe how many lynches you wriggled out of that game. <_<

Question: when building a game from the ground up, what's the basic process? Do you want to make basically the whole set-up of roles and then go and add flavor to it, or start by listing all the characters you might put in the game, and try to build a set of roles from that?
Usually, I'll be playing a game or watching a tv show/movie and my brain will go into mafia mode for a minute and make a connection between a character and a role, and then from there other connections keep springing up, and after a while I'm like halfway to a game. Then I list any character I don't have a firm idea on, put possible roles in the next column, and craft a setup from that.

I've always been the kind of guy who sets up the game by picking the scum characters first, and then working the town from there. Because, I mean, everyone loves to play the villains up a bit. Relatedly, you my not get the flavor, but if host can tell a decent story with it it makes up for any deficiencies. The best game flavorwise I played was CE Pokemafia; the game itself was a fiasco the first two days, but even after getting modkilled for what is now the Dels guide to paraphrasing I enjoyed reading along with the game. Samus did a great job (may he rest in peace).

Also while we're at it, quick note on VC Mafia, because this might actually affect the queue. I'll be in Austria from July 11th to the 24th for a music camp. I will probably not have access to a computer much if at all. So if I'm due up at that time I'll have to be jumped by a game.
