That's just not true. Rather, the majority of the posters on this site don't actually know what the ToU says and believe theat everything they say is divine and therefore can't be deleted, because it's true/he deserved it/it's not illegal where I live/some other stupid reason.
this is like 100% objectively false. it's pretty cool because when you're contesting a moderation it lists the rule you broke, and the explanation. so you can just read everything on the page, realize there's not a single part that applies to your post, and challenge it. strangely, it is rarely overturned!
illegal activities is a big one on that. I've had a couple mods admit that my post didn't break any part of the ToS but that's how it was being enforced, I appreciated that at least.
I remember a bunch of these stories and most of you are leaving out vital details that really got you modded

later on the same year a few of us were discussing the same emulator, were modded, but that time got them overturned. how the rules are applied seems pretty vague and inconsistent. the only thing you can be sure on is that if you are actually modded, you've got a pretty small chance of getting it overturned.

Please. You know better than I do that it's completely true. I wish I saved all my moderations... And, as you can see, a bunch of people agree with me. Sorry, but while the ToU are quite well written, the competence of the people enforcing them is not always on par.

To be fair, it's a very wide-arcing rule.
Discussion of mod chips, custom firmware, copying games, playing copied games, cracking games, No-CD patches, piracy releases, homebrew, copyrighted ROMs, copyrighted ISOs, and basically anything related to game, movie, TV, or music piracy is not permitted.
Emulators ARE related to piracy, even if they can be used legally. Thus, while it's probably up to each moderator on whether they personally feel like actually doing anything, it technically CAN be said to be against the ToS with little argument, so it's really safer just to avoid it all together.

I made a topic, which proceeded to get the copied fad where people copy the topic and change a word or letter in it. This was a daily thing at the time. Well I got my topic modded along with everyone elses. And since I had some previous moderations ( Which in all honesty I deserved), I got a suspension.
I contested saying I didn't break any rules. And got an obviously copy pasted message essentially saying Don't participate in fads.
Contested again and got a " Oh lol everyone uses that excuse "
Contested last time saying that they should friggin look at the posting times and got a simple message back saying.

Oh, and one time, I made an overrated topic (IIRC), with no other overrated topics on the board and without me making an overrated topic for a long time. I got a 3KL for "disruptive." I contested it saying that I could not find a single thing about it that might fall under the disruptive posting rule. The mod answered "fad." After searching through topics containing the word "overrated" (there were none) and whatever it was that I called overrated, I found that there was nothing that could have been a fad. I contested again, telling the lead mod that I still don't understand my moderation, as I saw nothing that indicated that there was a fad, and beyond that, I didn't even follow a fad intentionally. I got a response of "It doesn't matter because it is still a fad." I took it up to SBAllen and I basically got a "Fad. Fair, next" response from him. To this day, I still don't understand that moderation.
Another time, I made a topic calling something overrated, again with no other overrated topics on the board. People decided to make a fad out of calling things overrated. I got modded for disruptive posting, but I think that was an NKL. I didn't bother to contest it because I just didn't care.
And damn it Menji, I'm going to whine about my moderations all I want, damn it!

I think that " next time " part is why the admin decided to just shrug it off.
Admin will never overturn anything, so don't bother going there. He has much bigger things to do. Lead mod is your last hope, sometimes they're reasonable, depends on which one your case lands on.

And both times they were contested without even bothering to look. So I lost my temper on the last one.

I've gotten some silly moderations in my time. Stuff that was clearly not outside the rules, and stuff that can be interpreted as "against the rules" but you would have to be a fool to think that it should be modded. Apparently it is offensive to make a joke implying that the Irish drink a lot, because it is a stereotype, even if it is also an objective fact. I was also told if I made a joke about the Swiss keeping their cars in neutral, it is a 3KL for offensive due to the use of stereotypes.
That said, I have also had many moderations overturned. I'm not sure that's a "well done" for the system, as they got modded foolishly in the first place, but it all worked out.
Not to be the guy who pointlessly fights with mods, but I really feel like ngirl's "put part of the post in the sig" thing is a form of minor trolling, which is probably worse than what a lot of minor spoilers get modded for. Not trying to pick a fight, just stating my opinion.
I have had one instance of karma loss. Some model had died and had her remains tossed into a dumpster and burned, and lots of people were making snotty comments. I said one thing, and apparently some mod was getting frustrated and started going from mere deletions to full-on suspensions. Guess which side of the frustration line I was on?
I wasn't given the opportunity to appeal my suspension. I lost the karma, couldn't post for a week, and wanted nothing more than swift, brutal revenge on whichever mod decided to white knight the model.
and it's sad how everyone is afraid to bring up the ngirl story of a month ago now, you know which one. This post will likely get me suspended again or something but it's a fine example of how mods are sometimes corrupt as hell. (yes I used corrupt on an internet message board lmao so mad)

aka, one of the suspensions that was cited to finally demod Cheradenine once he (not "she", lol SineNomine) went and posted the nudes of female LUEsers on LL. When RaptorLC says a suspension is bad and Allen apologizes to you for it, you know something was royally f***ed up.
Oh and my friendship with ngirl is well-known, but let's be honest here. If a male mod were caught revealing mod-only info in b8c, they'd have been demodded for it. Just ask CNash.

yeah...dont you love it how mods automatically (at least in my experience) reveal mod history? too bad you cant mark on 'ask the mods' because raptor lc revealed my history without my permission...
Hahaha, I got 3KL'd once for getting really ****ing angry in a mafia game and (with GameFAQs Uncensored) I said ****ing with 2 U's or something like that. I was deleted in like under a minute. That was pretty funny.
