I can't believe you guys didn't think Activision was out to ruin gaming. Whatever turns a buck, they couldn't care less about what the average consumer thinks. And they know people will do it, because Nintendo made an entire generation of suckers out of the casual market with their complete joke of a system. Gamers are stuck to whatever the whim of companies like Capcom and Activision want, and they're complete sheep that will just further their cause.
[/SEPulti]
Also the government totally has something to do with this, I don't know how but they are stealing our money and transferring it to gaming companies and back so they can develop nuclear weapons. The illuminati are involved too. 9/11 was a cover up for all of this.
From: MoogleKupo141 | #042 wait, why does anyone care about this always online thing?
why would you play Diablo offline anyway?

Was thinking basically this, though I don't see what the flaw in D2's system is and why they decided to change it. It's not possible to get single player characters onto closed battle.net is it? Like I think there was an exploit once or twice that had open characters into the closed realm but that was fixed easily enough.

You can auction house single player stuff, it is to prevent cheating if I were to guess.
-- Sir Chris http://img.imgcake.com/Chris2pngas.png
Yeah but couldn't they just make it so you could only auction house stuff from closed battle.net characters? Like even as it is now you can do "single player" on battle.net using characters stored on their servers. And then you can do the normal single player that doesn't need a battle.net connection.
Just doesn't seem like a necessary thing to counteract cheating at all-- none of the big problems with d2 cheating have anything to do with single player.

10 character limit probably will be increased. The always online doesn't mean much because unless you're a pirate, who wouldn't play Diablo 3 with their internet on? If you are on the computer you are most likely on the internet anyway. Auction house doesn't mean much since people will just use ebay/etc to sell their stuff if there wasn't something built in.

I don't even like Diablo games, and I don't get the whining at all.
Don't pay attention to the whiners, Icehawk. They're just a bunch of Communists who believe that gaming companies should not make any profit whatsoever and oppose each and every method for them to do so.

The only thing I'm really bothered by here is the online at all times thing. When my internet goes out, or I'm somewhere where wireless isn't available to me, I like to screw around in games offline. They did this with SC2 as well, and that was more of a problem than it probably would be with D3, because I was actually trying to play the single player campaign. I don't see the point of doing this, and I really hope it doesn't become the norm, or if it has, I hope it goes away.
Oh, and also I don't see the point of limiting players to only 10 characters.

So then you were parodying SEP, which would have also missed the mark, what with his impersonation being hilarious.

Also yeah. The market in D2 was an absolute joke and kind of turned me off. I played the hell out of the game, but never got too involved because the trading economy was a joke and people would always come into games as I got higher leveled with all their juiced up equipment and it was hard to find people who just wanted to play through it in a legit manner.

I don't give a f*** about "the market". I care about myself and my own enjoyment, and my ability to play the full games without paying 2-3 times the price of a game in order to do so. I don't wanna feel screwed because some "genius" in a high position thought of a "brilliant idea" to stop piracy which only increased it and made me feel like an idiot for actually paying for the game and then getting less enjoyment out of it than pirates. I don't wanna buy a game only to find out it was 1/3 of the game and I gotta pay additionally to get the rest. I don't wanna have to spend more money to "unlock" stuff that was already on the disc I already bought.
I think you're mistaking "capitalism", a main point of which is looking out for your own best interest, which is what I'm doing, with plain masochism, which looking out for corporations' best interest would be for a straight-headed customer.

From: The Real Truth | #076 People are literally customers and literally allowed to complain about something that requires payment to use.
People will literally defend bad moves by companies.
As a guy who has the game pre-ordered I do not mind this at all. Find it amusing, really. Nothing about this hurts my enjoyment of the game on any level. And hey if I get an awesome item I can't use maybe I can make a dollar, but if if I can't not like I was hyped for Diablo 3 as an income source or anything.
I guess I can understand why this would annoy people, but of all of the bad things the company has done (and I think their CEO is a garbage person to the industry of video games) I don't mind this move.

As someone who does not always have home internet, I find online persistent DRM to be one of the worst things ever. Those are the kind of games that I am willing to hack/pirate as much as I can, because it really is bull****.
--
My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
It's not a big deal to you because that's not how you play the game. It's the same way of thinking people have about laws or things that have happened elsewhere in the world. Nobody cares, because it doesn't have an actual impact on them.
I used to play Lan D2 with my friend back in the day. The best D2 I played was with my friend. I no longer have that option. I can't play single player either, but nobody cares because it doesn't effect them. Diablo 2 is not Team Fortress 2. It doesn't require teams of 5+ to be played. It is a game that (while not as good after the first time) is perfectly playable offline. They are just deciding to not make it so.
And believe it or not, there are plenty of people in this country that don't have a reliable ISP. It happens fairly easily when you live away from larger cities. It's not a problem for me, but it will be for others I'd personally just like the option of playing offline. I was planning to play through D3 offline the first time through.
I'm not even addressing the other changes they're implementing.

Like this guy here. It's a joke. You guys (not all of you) are only looking at this from your own perspective. I was on the fence about D3 and Guild Wars 2, myself. I will now be going with GW2.

Well, I'd like it if you don't compare a video game to world politics. That seems a bit not on the level. As a consumer I only care about things that relate to me, which is my right just as much as it is your right to complain about it. It isn't some terrible thing - I buy based off my need and wants. Sucks for you if you can't be online all the time, yeah.
-- Sir Chris http://img.imgcake.com/Chris2pngas.png
You can still play single player....and you were allowed to play Starcraft II offline even though countless of people said you couldn't. That's most likely the case with D3.
On the other hand people being like "why would you complain" are silly. Especially about the online thing. If that hampers your ability to play, by all means you should complain.
-- Sir Chris http://img.imgcake.com/Chris2pngas.png
This is horrendous. All I can say is I hope Blizzard nixes this idea before it's released; sort of like how due to public backlash they eventually backed off forcing people to use their Real ID names on their forums.
Brilliant PR move by Activision-Blizzard to release info about the Auction House and slaughter of the skill system on the same day so people will solely freak out about the Auction House and DRM instead of the most terrible part of the reveal.

Actually we have nothing to indicate that the skill system has been slaughtered. Like I said, it could be terrible or it could be amazing; we'll know when we learn more.

I can't say I agree. No skill leveling, infinite respecs at any time, only three passive slots. There will be no differentiation between characters of the same class other than those three passives, and if they're respeccable as well, there will be literally no differentiation.

We simply don't know enough about how it is going to work, but given how much we have heard about the possibility of customizing skills using runes, I think it's fair to say we should wait and give it a try.
Besides, Blizzard has yet to make a bad game; any company with such a solid reputation deserves the benefit of the doubt in my mind.

Yeah, the auction house seems just like a way for Bliz to get a cut of the profits from item selling, but holy **** is persistent online DRM a terrible idea.

Lol. People are still saying that? That hasnt been a legitimate claim since like 2002. Frozen Throne was horrible, WotLK and Cata were average at best expansions, and SC2 had a joke storyline.
Blizzard's games have taken a huge downward slide for years now.
