Kids who bug their parents to buy stuff for them

I envy kids who can bug $150+ out of their parents on a monthly basis. I considered myself spoiled as a kid and I may have squeezed $20 out of my parents a month except for birthdays and Christmas.

There are some really great comics out there.

You don't have to be a nerd to enjoy them, FYI.

And again, nobody reads everything. You read what you like. Most people pick up maybe 4-6 a week.

Nobody who doesn't read everything knew what the hell was going on for half of Darkest Night though...

just give it back to snyder =(

He's on Batman, which is going to sell more copies, thus more people will buy it and read Snyder.

Good trade IMHO.

Also he's gonna be rocking Swamp Thing, Alan Moore eat your heart out.

Oh and Snyder's new book at Image started today, Severed #1. Check it out!

I mean obviously they target the nerdy kids demographic

The target audience is 18-44 year old males.

As for the escalation of prices, yeah, that's an issue. Comics are struggling in much the same way that music did a decade ago. Sales are shrinking dramatically while the cost to manufacture comics is rising. Rather than embrace a digital model, Marvel has raised the price by a dollar on some books, which caused fans of those books to drop a $2.99 book.

Blackest Night.

And the only thing you needed to read for the main Blackest Night story was Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, and the actual main book. That's 22 issues over 9 months. Everything else was companion pieces.

I know, but I think he was perfect for the Detective Comics book. I'm sure Batman is going get a bit supporting cast, but Snyder could do pretty much anything he wanted, with whomever he wanted, on Detectives.

Oh well! It's good for Batman fans, and I'm looking forward to the book, so I can't complain too much.

Oh, he should still have free reign on Batman. AT the very least, the 12 issue story arc h had planned for DTec is going off without a hitch in the Batman book.

I think this is the reason DC is going to come out on top after all this, at least for a while. Marvel refuses to embrace digital out of some "loyalty" to brick and more stores (at least that's what they claim). Unfortunately, nowadays, most people have to drive 30-60 minutes to actually get to a comic shop. I have to drive 40.

Meanwhile, DC is putting everything at $1.99 online, and keeping all regular sized books at $2.99 in stores, unlike Marvel who's put half their books at $3.99, and doesn't reduce the price for digital at all. Funny, since Marvel pioneered the digital distribution, but refuses to change their policies. And as for comic shops, DC is the one enacting a new distributor return policy on unsold books, not Marvel, no matter how much smack Marvel wants to talk.

Yeah, it's a fantastic move on DC's part. Tablets, and the iPad in particular, have exploded in popularity. If you want comic sales to grow, you have to have a strong presence in app stores, and you have to be aggressive with pricing. The only good move Marvel has made in the digital realm is partnering with Starbucks to offer free books on Marvel Digital to those using Starbucks wifi. I doubt it's helping to grow Marvel's business, but it's nice from a customer loyalty perspective.

I think I'm going to start buying all my DC comics digitally and pick up the books I really want in trade.

The DC Comics app they just launched is excellent, too, great move getting a major backing by ComiXology as their primary distributor. I fully intend to upgrade to a tablet after my current smartphone's year is up so I can get a discount, then it's digital all the way.

I think I'm going to start buying all my DC comics digitally and pick up the books I really want in trade.

Great idea, especially with DC's new policy of no longer having a standard trade size, collecting stories in smaller and larger trades when necessary and pricing appropriately.

Already confirmed no events right now!

Some guy at a panel during SDCC asked "So when will we be seeing 'Splashpoint'?" and they ended the panel right then and there.

I thought DC said that the digital comics would start at $2.99, same as a print comic, and then drop down later.

There was confusion as to whether this meant comics would get cheaper after a month, but no, for some reason all the #1's will cost the same as print, then from #2 onward be cheaper. Not sure why.

LTM, the problem is that, well, back when Marvel killed Captain America, no one asked if he was coming back, only when he was coming back.

All of the people you listed were nobodies (Red Rocket?) or were replaced by legacy characters. Nightcrawler can't be replaced because his power isn't learned or technological or anything, and he's not a nobody.

And you don't get to list a C-list superhero's wife as an example of a comic book death sticking.

I know Rocket Red is a nobody and the Elongated Man was created because DC wasn't sure if they owned Plastic Man, and is, at best, a C-List hero. I know Blue Beetle and The Question were replaced by minorities after they died. According to Wikipedia, Mongul was replaced by his son. That leaves Jonah Hex and Terra.

A characters death doesn't count because they have a replacement? What? You're being silly.

Ted Kord (Beetle II)'s death is INGRAINED into the DCU (well, was) and is probably one of the most important character deaths in comics. Same for Sue Dibny.

If anything, it's the C-listers that have the coolest/best/most important deaths anyways.

Hell, Elongated Man, a C-lister, died while imprisoning the lord of Hell for eternity.

Returning to the original topic... at least the director that entered in Arranofsky's place has made good movies.
