Hulk Hogan (c) vs Yokozuna

A largely forgetful match until the ending.

Yokozuna survived the punch, punch, punch sequence three times and kicked out of the legdrop.

A camera exploded in Hogan's face and Yokozuna was able to pick up the win.


Shawn Michaels is being interviewed backstage and a huge man is behind him.

He's apparently Shawn's insurance policy and he is introduced to us by the champ as Diesel.



The Steiner Brothers and The Smoking Guns vs Money Inc and The Headshrinkers


Scott Steiner is proving to be a handful early on for Ted Dibiase. The Steinerline is keeping him out of the ring.

Billy Gunn is wrestling Fatu and he's now getting double teamed by the Headshrinkers. IRS tags in, JR is telling us IRS may be one of the greatest tag specialists of all times.

He's won three tag championships with three different partners.

Ted Dibiase can now start using more of his offense against the smoking gunns.

Afa is acting wild on the outside, hell he's taken possession of he briefcase.

Well this was weird, Ted had the Million Dollar Dream on, but he let go willingly in an attempt to deal more punishment.

BUT HE PAYS FOR IT AS BILLY GUNN GETS THE INSIDE CRADDLE TO WIN THE MATCH!

Crush vs Shawn Michaels (c)

Man, Crush is huge, but as big as he is that Diesel fella at ringside might be even bigger.

Crush is proving to be really strong and he actually outpaces Shawn Michaels and ducks under the kicks and retaliates with a dropkick.

Shawn Michaels is just stunned. Crush is a very gifted athlete!

Savage: "I THINK HE COULD SLAM YOKOZUNA!"

oooh, as Crush was stalking Michaels he came across Diesel and this allowed the champ to go around and attack Crush from behind.

A lot of dirty tactics being used by the combination of the two men.

amazing displays of strength here by Crush and Michaels is in trouble, he actually has to rely on a lot of desperate moves just to sruvive.

But the high impact offense from Crush is proving to be a little too scary. TWO DOINKS! THEY DISTRACT CRUSH AND MICHAELS PICKS UP THE WIN!

Bam Bam Bigelow vs Bret Hart

Bret Hart is like a mechano model falling apart as he moves over to the ring.

The Beast from the East is focusing on the lower back and he's obviously very fresh.

Heenan is starting to worry at how much time Bigelow is taking to beat up on Bret.

BRET HART KICKS OUT AND THE VIDEO IS NOW SKIPPING A LOT, WHAT KIND OF VHS WERE THEY USING TO RECORD THIS DAMNIT!

THIS IS UNWATCHABLE SO LEMME RELY ON JR'S COMMENTARY? IT APPEARS THAT BAM BAM IS PLAYING IT SMART AND HE'S TAKING IT OUT ON BRET AND LUNA VACHON CAME OUT AND HIT HART WITH A CHAIR.

Bret is being kicked around like a dog, how much mopre punishment can a man take.

Bam Bam is just incredibly fresh and he;s going for a headbutt AND BIGELOW'S WON IT!

Most people who have seen both do prefer Bret vs. Perfect from this show over their Summerslam match. A healthy Perfect makes a difference!

This one obviously was less seminal though. Bret's first singles title > tournament semifinals.

The only title changes between this show and Summerslam involve the Tag Titles. The night after KotR, Money Inc. lost the belts to the Steiners, and then they traded them a couple times over the following few days and they ended up on the Steiners to end that session of title hot potato. Steiners enter Summerslam as 2-time Tag Team Champions!

The biggest news is Lex Luger's face turn. Yokozuna and Fuji issued a challenge on the 4th of July for any American to try and slam Yokozuna. Many tried, and they all failed, until Lex Luger emerged, wearing the colors of the American flag, and did it!

Now he's got a title shot at Summerslam, and he's been touring the nation on his Lex Express bus to drum up support against the evil foreign menace!

Turnbuckle is being exposed and Razor gonna crash into it, NO TED GOT RAMMED IN AND NOW THE RAZOR'S EDGE IS SETUP AND HE GETS IT!

Razor picks up the win.


Todd is with the Steiner family, she gave birth to Scott and Rick? Like waaat.

SOME MAN IN PINK IS YELLING IN THE RING, GRAPH SAYS THIS MAN IS JIM CORNETTE.

He's introducing to us the Heavenly Bodies, Tom Pritchard and Jimmy Del Rey. Cornette is one of the most flamboyant managers we've ever seen.


TAG TITLE MATCH:

Steiner Brothers (c) vs The Heavenly Bodies

The Steiners entrance theme music is so jarring all dat university music.

Double team suplex, the two bodies are working very fast and Scott just overwhelms them with his monstrous power.

Suplex upon suplex, all four men are in the ring and Scott is just tearing them apart, Cornette is going nuts.

Jimmy Del Rey is sent flying, Pritchard is being tossed around. Clotheslines from Rick Steiner, he's manhandling both of them, Cornette yells at the camera man, secret talks are needed.

Double atomic drop and the Heavenly bodies retaliate with some nice double team moves.

They are in front of the Steiners homecrowd and we got a moonsault from Del Rey but we didn't see it properly.

The Heavenly bodies in charge, cheap shot by Cornette and Pritchard is working on Scott, BIG SUPLEX and Steiner can now tag in Rick, but Jimmy jumps in and stops him, but another suplex and now Rick's in!

They're cleaning house. Top rope bulldog INTERFERENCE AND DISTRACTIONS INVOLVING THE RACQUET AND ONLY A 2 COUNT, REVERSE MOONSAULT MISSES, SCOTT NOW GOES FOR THE FRANKENSTEINER!

Shawn Michaels (c) vs Mr Perfect

The Shawn Michaels theme tune is now sounding more like the familiar sound we're all used to.

Mr Perfect coming out and doing tricks with his towel, JR and Gorilla are broadcasting this on Radio WWF.

This is a match to find out who is the greatest intercontinental champion.

Shawn chewing gum while wrestling, a very open contest to begin, Perfect is now working the back with some big knees.

Plenty of reversal and both men can't seem to get anything going. Lock up and Shawn is now striking Perfect, spins around and now Perfect is chopping away.

Michaels sets up Perfect and dances around him, but Perfect just knocks him down.

High risk moves from Shawn but the armdrags stop him and now Perfect has the arm. DROPKICK NO, CAUGHT AND SLINGSHOT INTO THE OUTSIDE OF THE RING.

OH MY, DIESEL IS DISTRACTING, MICHAELS WITH A KICK TO THE JAW!

Heenan: "I HATE PEOPLE WITH A BIG MOUTH!"

Michaels is working on the lower back, trying to stop the Perfectplex.

Plenty of irish whips to the corners and now he's working hard to break that back.

constant big right hands from Perfect and DROPKICK! Backdrop and now the momentum has shifted, kneelift right into Shawn, atomic drop.

Mr Perfect with a hip toss, no stopped, and now a battle to attemot the backslides OH HE'S GOT THE PERFECTPLEX HOOKED AND HE DOES IT!

DIESEL PULLS PERFECT OUT! PERFECT IS HITTING A MAN WITH GLASSES!

The referee is now counting out Perfect and Shawn Michaels wins and retains.

Post match brawl as Perfect fights the both of them but he gets beaten to a pulp.

This kid has apparently pulled off a lot of upsets. Irwin is the bigger man here.

oh wait wat, The King is arriving to Harley Race's music!

He's also in crutches as Lawler arrives very slowly to the ring.

Lawler's promo here is just bashing the motor city, yay! Those cars don't work.

Looks like we might get a replacement fellow to fight vs Bret ad oh my god, DOINK THE CLOWN IS HERE WITH BUCKETS.

The hitman's in a really bad mood and he's now punching away at Doink.

Bret now wants a piece of the King, this allows Doink to come in from behind.

Doink goes up high and knocks Himan down. Lawler is urging Doink to break the leg of the former champ.

The momentum is with Doink here and Bret is forced to make a few big kickouts.

The Clown is going for a submission but look at the hand on the rope and ref sees it and breaks up the hold.

He goes to the top again and THE KNEES, here's the comeback. NECKBREAKER AND BRET FROM THE TOP, HERE'S THE ELBOW AND THE SHARPSHOOTER IS COMING!

HE'S TURNED HIM OVER AND JERRY LAWLER COMES OUT TO THE RING AND BEATS ON BRET!

The Hart family is tying to get in the ring, but the refs and road agents keep em out while Jerry continues to hammer away.

IT APPEARS THAT WE GET OUR MATCH AFTERALL, this is all very confusing.

Bell rings and Hart us now biting away. irish whip and here's the backdrop.

Hart is stomping away. Lawler with the crutches, they're now totally shattered .

Owen is protesting, and now Lawler is working on Bret, the referee is nowhere to be found.

Lawler is still attacking Bret and he's got the crutches again and he jams it in the thoat of the hitman.

What dirty heel tactics. Lawler is delighted, but Bret pulls the straps down and he's stalking Lawler and now unloads some big right hands.

Headbutt and backdrop! Bret using the backbreaker, the cover but here's the kickout, PILEDRIVER FROM BRET, he's going to the top and elbow!

THE SHARPSHOOTER AND BRET WILL NOT LET GO IF, HE'S WON THE MATCH AND THE BELL KEEPS RINGING.

BRET WILL NOT LET GO OF THE HOLD.

Four officials in the ring right now trying to pull Bret away from Lawler.

The ring just keeps getting more and more crowded and they're now negotiating with Bret to let go of the hold.

Finally he releases the hold and Lawler is totally knocked out.

But the referee is reversing his decision and disqualifies Bret Hart and Lawler is now the undisputed king of the world wrestling federation.

Jerry Lawler is now being stetchered off, BUT BRUCE HART AND OWEN HART NOW JUMPING IN TO CAUSE SOME DAMAGE!

He's from Helsinki! Everyone has an undefeated streak going around.

My god, this guy's head is a block.

Poor Jannetty, while Michaels was combatting Mr Perfect in a thrilling intercontinental bout, Marty s fighting a man with no eyebrows and a huge forehead.

Tatanka is apparently still undefeated.

TORTURE RACK? Well that was quick. The former intercontinental champion was defeated very swiftly.

massive pre-match stuff filled with anthem singing.

Lex Luger getting a huge pop, all the work they've done appears to have paid off because he's now hugely over.

The entire crowd is now firmly behind him. Staredown between the two.

Fuji is already coming in from behind, Luger reacts in time.

Luger rocks Yokozuna and he's moving swiftly, dodging a big legdrop.

Lex Luger's been making himself leaner and he's knocked out Yokozuna and only gets the 2 count.

Slam by Luger, look at all dat power man he's actually doing some serious damage against the giant monster.

But in an instant the momentum shofts after a clothesline from the champion.

FUJI COMING IN FROM BEHIND AND MISSES THE SALT! They're strategies are failing cos Luger is too quick and smart for them.

REVERSE KICK TO THE FACE OF LUGER. IS THAT YOKOZUNA CHOKING LUGER?

Devastating chops and he misses with the chair, as Luger continues to dominate the crowd isn't poping as big.

BUT LUGER KEEPS USING THE HIGH RISK MOVES AND HERE'S THE FOREARM! GO FOR THE COVER AND OH NO! IT FAILS!

cLOTHESLINE TO THE BACK AND YOKO IS DOWN BUT THE MAN WILL STILL KICK OUT.

Sidesuplex and Luger just bounces upon and down and Vince is dehyped right now whenever Yokozuna makes a cover.

This is turning into a kickout from everything, THE LEGDROP FROM YOKOZUNA LANDS BUT LUGER STILL COUNTS OUT.

Jim Cornette is yelling conspiracy. YOKOZUNA IS GETTING READY TO DROP IT, HE'S ON THE MIDDLE ROPE AND MISSES THE BANZAI DROP!

LUGER IS BACK ON HIS FEET AND STARTS THROWING RIGHT HANDS AWAY BUT YOKOZUNA IS CHOPPING AWAY.

Irish whip, here comes the charge but misses AND HERE'S THE BODYSLAM, LUGER PUNCHES MR FUJI AND HERE COMES LEX LUGER AND YOKOZUNA IS OUT OF THE RING!

The ref is counting, JIM CORNETTE WITH A BAD NECK GETS BEATEN UP AND LEX LUGER WINS THE MATCH!

He won it all via countout! Fantastic everyone came out to celebrate....but Yokozuna still has the title.

But everyone has forgotten that!

The entire show was pretty much built around Luger and he did pretty well for himself there.

The Shawn/Perfect match was better in terms of workrate though.

Yokozuna was such a hated heel at this time. A lot of the heels had some fans, but I feel like Mr. Fuji and Yokozuna got everyone to hate him. The bodyslam event, though super boring, did a good job for that, as tons of well-liked wrestlers failed, along with a bunch of athletes from other sports and various cities.

That was Ted DiBiase's final match, and Mr. Perfect would be retired again by Survivor Series, thanks to his bad back.

Tag: The Steiners lost the belts to a new team, The Quebecers! Jacques and Pierre are their names, and you may remember Jacques as The Mountie and as Jacques Rougeau. They are managed by rich brat Johnny Polo, who you may know better as Raven.

Intercontinental: Here we have an issue. Shawn Michaels was suspended for drugs (in kayfabe it was for missing shows), so they put the IC Title up for grabs in a Battle Royal where the last two guys would then have a regular match. The final two were Razor Ramon and Rick Martel, and Razor prevailed! He is the official IC Champion, but now Shawn is back and he kept his belt and claims that HE is the rightful IC Champion. Uh oh!

In Other News:

One Survivor Series match was supposed to be The Hart Family vs. Jerry Lawler and 3 Mystery Knights. However, before the event, Lawler was charged with statutory rape by a teenage girl, so he was understandably let go until it all blew over. So now he has been replaced in the match by Shawn Michaels.

Does it make sense why Shawn Michaels would have Knights? No. Does it make sense that some Hart brothers would train for months and come out of retirement just to fight random heel Shawn Michaels instead of family enemy Jerry Lawler? No. But just go with it.

Razor with a promo here he's introducing a guy, apparently Perfect bailed and we get RANDY SAVAGE!

Apparently Crush and Randy Savage have some beef.

This is the first time we're seeing Diesel wrestle on PPV.

But first thing's first Razor and Martel are using a series of reversals, but Razor slaps Martel in the face.

Martel is trapped in the corner of the faces. A series of moves knock out Martel and now Adam Bomb needs to tag in.

Ramon is far more weary about going after this huge dude. After a test of strength Ramon is somehow capable of somewhat standing up to the bomb.

Suplex from Ramon and the Model comes out and eblows his partner.

Harvey is unhappy and The Model knocks him out, dissention within the ranks, HE HIT A MAN WITH GLASSES.

Now for some REALLY sad news.

That was Heenan's last WWF PPV before leaving for WCW.

Now that you have heard their entire tenures, how do you stack up Ventura against Heenan? I prefer Ventura but Heenan was definitely the right man for the job as things got a bit more cartoonish.

The Knights were Greg Valentine (Blue), Barry Horowitz (Red), and Jeff Gaylord (Black). Not canonically--they were never actually revealed. That was a big letdown, honestly. Lawler originally built them up like they were Mystery Guys who we would find out about at the PPV, and we never really did.

And the less said about that Doink mess the better. Sheesh.

The only title changes between SVS and the Rumble are the Quebecers losing the Tag Titles to 1-2-3 Kid/Marty Jannetty, and then winning them back before the PPV. Still have that IC Title controversy raging.

And also, the Women's Championship has been revived now. Alundra Blayze (aka Madusa in other feds) won a tournament for it. You won't see the division in action until WMX though.

Heenan's a machine gun colour guy he's very quick witted, while Ventura seemed like he knew what Gorilla was going to say before he said it and could mess around with him a lot more.

One of the most bizarre teams so far has been Gorilla/JR because they both get hyped over anything and make the most insignificant matches look like the main events of wrestlemania.

I think I like Ventura more overall for his clearer style which made him more believable and he was also just plain funnier, Heenan basically said a lot of jokes but you can't remember all of them, but the Ventura ones made you laugh harder.

If the 94 rumble is what I think it is, then Undertaker should be the Star.

The man who drew number 1 is SCOTT STEINER, #2 out comes Samu. they're just beating on each other Scott Steiner is initially overpowered by Samu.

But nice clotheslines from Steiner and quick attempt to toss out Samu, but he's hanging in there, they're now beating on each other fairly quickly.

#3 is WHOA, RICK STEINER! He's taking his time and Rick goes after Samu, the two steiners are working together.

Belly to Belly suplex and snap suplex, Samu is hurting a lot. SAMU HUNG HIMSELF HE HUNG HIMSELF. #4 is errr some guy working for Wippleman and out comes the green mist.

No more Sherri sightings huh. The Rockers are the only ones doing any real action, #30 adam bomb is the last man in. What a crowded ring. Sparky just got eliminated, Bastion booger got sick and couldn't come and someone replaced Kamala.

This rumble has been saved not once, but twice! Hacksaw couldn't even make the Rumble.

Lex Luger almost went out, but he's still hanging on for dear life. What a taxing Royal rumble this has been, also Adam bomb has been in this for a while, but there's a dozen bodies still left, nobody wants to exit the rumble. The Hammer is gone after a lengthy fight with the model and he's now out because of Tatanka.

Two more people got eliminated, Adam Bomb was one of them. Tatanka's the next one out. Bam Bam goes after Luger, but he got outsmarted and is now eliminated.

Bret Hart is still in the ring, the hired hand Tenryu has been dishing out pain, which is why Bret eliminates him soon after.

We are down to the final four, Bret, Michaels, Luger and Fatu.

Kick to the face of luger not from Shawn, but Fatu and here comes the diving headbutt.

After a neat spot, Luger and Bret eliminate the other two and they are now just trading blows and what, BOTH OF THEM JUST WENT OUTSIDE THE RING.

They've each fallen at the same time. THE LEX LUGER MUSIC PLAYS, wait it stops, Fink is going to make another announcer.

Bret's music plays again, look at how hard Bret is selling his broken leg. The refs are arguing like crazy as to who is the winner.

I knew it either had to be Diesel, Bret, or Taker. Bret for some very important double-duty, or Taker for working so hard to make us believe in the supernatural nature of his character. You give most people Taker's role here and it comes across as stupid and insulting to the roster, but I think Taker handles it perfectly.

But whoa man, that Diesel push....no one really gave a crap about him before this, but now EVERYONE was talking about him.

No title changes at all between the Rumble and WM. Yokozuna/Razor/Quebecers/Blayze still your champs.

The solution to the co-winner situation was a coin flip. Winner of the coin flip gets Yokozuna at WM, loser has to fight someone else in a non-title match, and then the coin flip loser will fight the winner of Yoko/Coin Flip Winner to close the show for the title.

If Luger lost the coin flip, his non-title warm-up match would have been vs. Crush. Bret in fact DID lose the coin flip, and now to get his title shot, he will be forced to do the one thing he swore he would not do--wrestle his brother Owen.

Yeah, I found this to be like the peak of Taker's establishment as a near unstoppable threat.

This Rumble was another one I watched a bunch when I was younger. That Undertaker segment freaked me out back then, and made him seem superhuman. Looking back now, it's pretty cheesy in some ways. But man, there were 10 guys in that ring beating up on him and he still wasn't going down easy.

I hated the Diesel segment too because I hated Diesel. Though I think what really got me to hate him was his domination for that stretch. Stupid jerk, why does a friend of Shawn Michaels have to be good.

And then Bret pulls double duty in yet another PPV, 8 matches across the last 4. And by fighting through an injury, it sounded like he was more over with the crowd than Luger by the end of it.

Leapfrog and here's Owen's kicking prowess knocking down Bret and the elder brother has been kicked out of the ring.

The rocket is now hurting Bret's back with the ringpost.

Hitman to the turnbuckle and a backbreaker and now Owen is slapping on a submission hold.

Bret is getting up and uses the elbows BELLY TO BELLY FROM OWEN! Near fall and CROSSBODY, BUT REVERSAL AND Owen drives the knee into the back.

BIG GERMAN SUPLEX from Owen, closest near fall of the day.

Fuji nails Savage from the back, Savage makes it with 2 seconds to spare.

Crush taking some salt from Fuji and, both men take some salt to the eyes. Macho Man from up top and dive knocks out Crush.

Savage in fact kicks Crush out of the ring to pin him. I have no idea why you can't just pin someone in the ring itself.

Fuji pours water over Crush to wake him up. Backdrop sends savage out of the ring. Clothesline out of the ring, piledriver coming, no backdrop instead.

Bret vs. Owen is my favorite match in WWE history.

Big title news headed into King of the Ring. Bret and Alundra are still holding their titles, but the other ones are under turmoil!

The Quebecers lost the Tag Titles to Men on a Mission at a European house show, and then won them back days later. Urban legend says that the original title change was unplanned, and happened because Jacques wasn't able to kick out from underneath Mabel. <_<

Then a month later, the now 3-time Tag Team Champions lost their titles to the newly face Headshrinkers, managed by Afa and Captain Lou Albano!

In Intercontinental news, Razor didn't get to ride high on his ladder match victory for too long, as he soon lost the title to Diesel on an episode of Superstars! Diesel has accomplished what Shawn could not! Surely this won't lead to any tension between them.

And yeah, Vince/Lawler is the default team from WMX until Survivor Series 1997, Vince/Lawler/JR for the last half of that timeframe.

Lawler still wrestles on a fair amount of PPVs now and then though so it's not really a CONSISTENT team. But it is the #1 team.

And oddly enough neither one is announcing on KotR. Lawler is wrestling, and Vince is...I think still dealing with the steroid trials. Those are over by Summerslam though.
