Square Enix will be devoting a full 30 minutes of precious day one Tokyo Game Show real estate to its smartphone and SNS content business.

On September 15, the first day of the show, the publisher will hold the "Squre Enix Smartphone & SNS Contents" press conference in front of the Open Megatheater area of its booth. The event will run from 13:20 to 13:55. Details on what will be shown have not been announced.

In past earnings briefings, CEO Yoichi Wada has mentioned smartphone and SNS content as a major area of future business. The company has brought major titles like Final Fantasy Tactics to iPhone and has also released a few original titles on Facebook.

Quantum Conundrum looks just like Portal to me. it's the same kind of reality manipulation that Portal taps into and the world design seems pretty similar. it should probably be getting more hype, yeah. that's what happens when Valve doesn't make it.

It seemed pretty clear to me that it was just an opening area to make you familiar with the game mechanics, with the person behind it, I have plenty of faith that the puzzles will get more and more interesting. We haven't even seen all the dimensions yet.

Maybe it will, I dunno! If that's the video that's supposed to make me excited, though, it didn't do its job. I need more than "it's kinda sorta but not really like Portal" for me to get excited. Like I said, it looked alright, but the mechanics weren't exactly inspiring, and being another downloadable puzzle game doesn't do it for me like it might for you guys.



Anyway, I put a couple of hours into the Revelations beta, and it's pretty good. It's still more or less the same as Brotherhood's multiplayer, but they've made some tweaks to make it more enjoyable.

There is an "Easy Deathmatch" mode that's nice for beginners to ease their way into the game -- the maps are smaller, there are no duplicates of your or your opponents running around (it's easier to spot your targets or pursuers), there is no compass, and no one can use abilities. That last point is especially notable because you have to level up in order to unlock abilities, so you can spend time in Easy Deathmatch familiarizing yourself with the mechanics and leveling up before moving on to the "real" multiplayer. I find it's kinda fun regardless, though, because the pace is faster.

For me, the best change has been the way counters work. In the original, you had maybe a split second to counter someone -- the timing was so precise that you might as well not even bother, unless you smoke bombed your pursuer beforehand. Here, you'll still lose those face to face encounters, but now when you press circle you'll get an "honorable death" (100 points) instead of nothing. I think that's probably the best compromise they could have made, because if you make countering too strong then you just wreck the balance of the game, but this way you still get something for trying.

Also good news, connecting to matches is much faster than Brotherhood. It could be a total pain to even find a match in Brotherhood, and then when you think you did it would often disconnect and start the whole process over again. That alone was enough to make me stop playing, because you could literally spend maybe 10 minutes trying to get into a match. No thanks. It's much smoother in Revelations, though, which is kinda surprising because I can't imagine too many people are in the beta, nowhere near the amount that will be when the game comes out. You can also tweak your abilities, your character's gear, or your profile while you're waiting, so you don't have to sit there and stare at a "Connecting" screen the whole time. Makes it feel much faster.

I haven't messed with it yet, but there are some cool character customization options. Like with everything, you have to unlock them with ABSTERGO CREDITS (you get these after every match), and you can spend them on things like changing the color of your character's clothes, what weapons they use, their taunt. It's all totally cosmetic, from what I can tell, but it's nice that you can add a personal touch. It's still seemingly only one character per match, though, which makes sense, but still kinda annoying! First chick (blue) on the left is my character! -

Beta is fun. If you didn't like the multiplayer in Brotherhood, you probably won't like it here, but if you did, they fixed all the nagging issues that one had. Yes, there are still roofers who like to play Batman. Sux!
