I'm a pretty big Gears of War fan, so I'm gonna probably want these, and we already know the DLC is coming regardless so I don't really know if it matters or not that its announced this early, and its for some single player DLC as well and I'm a sucker for that s***...

...but doesn't pre-ordering DLC just sound DIRTY to anybody else? Just the very concept, pre-buying post-game content? I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night.

Gears 3 is a bit of a special case because it's been completed for a long time, so for me the issue is more "is $30 of DLC justifiable". I defend DLC a lot but damn, it's a shooter

So the last news topic has me thinking about the Vita and 3DS. 3DS has been a failure, so obviously we'll have to wait for the 3DS trade show to see where they are course-correcting to. But assuming that they don't have anything game-changing, what hope does it have of being the success that previous handhelds have been? I'm thinking Pokemon is an obvious boost, certainly in America where stuff like Monster Hunter might not be that big.

Vita, I dunno. It looks sweet but I just don't know why anyone would buy it. Well, okay sure there's always going to be a nice little handheld gaming market, but I'm talking about the system being a success and not just something that did kind of OK with limited expectations.

Drifting back to Nintendo... I think of Pokemon again, and think about Pokemon as an iOS/Android game. How big would that be?

Persona 4 Vita was announced in Famitsu.

"Persona 4 will see a re-release three years after its original launch. This time, it’s coming to PlayStation Vita. Persona 4: The Golden is an enhanced port for Sony’s new handheld, adding new characters, movie events, animated scenes, and more. It will include 1.5 times the amount of voice-overs seen in the PS2 version. Marie, voiced by Kana Hanazawa, is one of the new characters. Out in Japan in spring 2012, it will utilize the “communications capabilities” of PlayStation Vita."

Also, Persona Fighter by Arc Systems Works.

"A bit more surprising is Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. Atlus is teaming up with Arc System Works for a 2D fighter that will be released first for arcades in Spring 2012, then for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Summer 2012. The game is being developed by the BlazBlue team. The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena has a new story that takes place two yeas after the events of Persona 4. Characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3 will feature in the game."

This is interesting -- Capcom is "aggressively" seeking partnerships with Western developers.

Japanese publisher Capcom has released a note to investors highlighting acquisitions and mergers with Western companies as an immediate priority. The note outlines the need for Capcom to increase sales of its game business outside of Japan to ensure future growth.

"Acquisitions and partnerships are one of the important strategies for increasing our market share overseas," the note reads. "We aggressively seek the opportunities of acquisitions and partnerships for the purposes of creating game content with universal market appeal and acquiring technologies and know-how required for our 'Single Content Multiple Usage' strategy."

The note discourages any takeover bids on the grounds that they lead to employee departures, which compromises the value of the acquired company. As such, Capcom favours partnerships, which could lead to acquisitions in the long term. However, similar deals with Japanese companies are explicitly discouraged.

"A merger with a large Japanese game or toy manufacturer is not being considered as a serious option since it would not make a significant contribution to growth in our overseas sales. Furthermore, this type of merger also poses the risk of limiting our activities involving the licensing of game content."
