..there is always soma, delicious soma, half a gramme for a half-holiday, a gramme for a week-end, two grammes for a trip to the gorgeous East, three for a dark eternity on the moon..
-- I'm too tired to drive anywhere, anyway, right now, do you care if I praise Black Turtle? Call me numbers.
I actually use Richter as my main playing character, maybe you should have read the earlier posts where I said he was the first character I used in the PSN version. I mostly use Soma for completeism since 80% of the games' drops are for him.
Play online with speedrunners and try to keep up with them without playing as Soma. Your basically saying the Castlevania equivalent of Marvel vs Capcom Magneto is slower than Shanoa and Richter because they can lure enemies.

I'm not saying they're faster than Soma at speed running bosses if you'd read.
I'm saying 3 things:
1. They "feel faster" in non speed run play due to their speed boosts (this was why I first brought it up for the record) 2. They don't lose significant speed on Soma for boss running because they can lure enemies and use them as springboards. Richter and Shanoa can regain some of that lost time with some methods. 3. Richter is faster at running act 6 than Soma if you're good at the game.
That's all I'm saying. Soma's faster, and broken, but every character with a dive kick can speed run most stages without losing too much time on Soma. That's all I'm saying.
Considering you were hailing the Yorick as some unbeatable shortcut master I think if you do play no Soma characters you need to work on them. Have you even used imps or harpies to help you speed run anything?
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!

Richter is by far the fastest character no contest there. Shanoa would be #2 with her ability to use the pegs.
No, you flat out said Richter and Shanoa were faster, whey they aren't.
2. They don't lose significant speed on Soma for boss running because they can lure enemies and use them as springboards. Richter and Shanoa can regain some of that lost time with some methods.
Yes they do, look at speed runs. Soma beats chapters (including bosses) in under a minute, Shanoa and Richter cannot in most cases unless it's something like Puppet Master's big toy room, and that's just getting into the room.
3. Richter is faster at running act 6 than Soma if you're good at the game.
Again no, Soma doesn't have to deal with any enemy in the stage besides Final Guards which he can Puppet Master/dive kick over. You don't have Sonic Boots so you don't know how fast they are and how tri jumping is with them. You still have to deal with the random patterns of the Medusa Heads and Demons in chapter 6 while Soma can just buzzsaw through them with Oxocutioner. If it was a straight empty level Richter would win but there's enemies in the way and Richter has to deal with them while Soma does not.
That's all I'm saying. Soma's faster, and broken, but every character with a dive kick can speed run most stages without losing too much time on Soma. That's all I'm saying.
Again, watch speedruns or play with some speedrunners, are try even getting close to their time.

Because Yorick is an unbeatable shortcut master. Any good player will tell you Yorick is one of the most broken things in the game. If a Soma doesn't let you dive kick of his, good luck trying to catch up with them. They'll already have opened the gold chest long before you even got a enemy in the right place to jump off of.

There's an example of Shanoa beating chapter 4 in a little over a minute. It's possible to do, but non Soma players don't record their runs as often (because why run with someone who isn't Soma it's a lot tougher) so they're hard to find.
Though it's worth saying that I can't find any Soma runs of most chapters under a minute either so yeah.
And what you're saying about Richter shows you don't play Richter enough. He does not have to regard enemies if he doesn't want to. He's got an invincible dash that does damage, and sub weapons that hit large areas when just left behind.

Yeah not like the uploader put "Imps are a poor Yorick substitute." as the video description.

I guess you don't look at related videos? Because there's 3 RIGHT THERE. Not to mention those are pre DLC videos which means they can be done at even faster times, like this one.

I play Richter 70% of the time I play online and use him very effectively. I already know how his martial arts work, I have all of his subweapons except the Javelin (it sucks) at level 9 and they're not enough to catch up to Miser Soma speedrunners.

Yeah, I'm the guy who doesn't read when you say you can't find any Soma speedruns of him doing chapters under a minute when you post a Shanoa speedrun that has related videos of Soma doing just that.

R. The Count's attacks are nothing compared to that screen filling bastard Ryukotsuki. He's the only boss on Hard mode I can't consistently kill (in the three times I've managed it, I somehow scored a Muramasa +1). It seems like the only times he ever opens his weak point, I cant get close enough, and he basically just outlasts me.

A runabout! I'll steal it! NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!
R. Count is piss easy. Just short hop in front of him when he raises his cape and learn how to wiggle through the pinwheel fireballs. I'm honestly surprisedthat nobody on PSN figured this out by now.
Ryukotsuki's the hardest boss in the game but he's still pretty easy if you know how to cheese him with Buer or Oxocutioner to destroy his fireballs while you valmanway or fish head his body (his entire lower body gets hurt when he lowers his arm, almost everyone thought that only the red orb can but hurt but he takes 3 hits from Fish Head.)

Speaking of Maria, since she doesn't seem to do well against bosses, are there some kind of team roles, so that she can kill the rest of the stage while more qualified people kill the boss?
-- SomeC - sheer explosives since meeting that crazy hobo. BlAcK TuRtLe grabbed the Guru victory, slow but steady.
I think the reason why she does not do well against bosses is that apparently Maria is glitched and does way less damage then she is supposed to. The 360 version had this same problem and was eventually patched, but the Maria in the PS3 version is still the weaker one.
--
You beat yourself up with your past. Don't blame yourself, blame the world. Blame God. Blame me.
Oxocutioner summons 1-4 swords that surround Soma for 2 second then fly off. The swords block several projectiles ( only stuff like Ryo's fireballs go through) and do big damage, pretty much making Soma nigh invincible against enemies not resistant to slash. There's even a few invincibility frames on it so you can use it weasel through Puppet Master's iron maiden attack.
And PSN Maria is pre patch Maria. She's much weaker than the 360 patched one, she does far less damage, regenerates MP slower, her attacks cost 5 more MP and Hymn doesn't have holy element. She's nigh useless on hard mode because of how little damage she does. It's a good thing I didn't buy her for my PSN account!

I've been trying to farm Oxocutioner souls and they just aren't dropping yet. I even went and maxed out Dead Warrior souls for their luck boost and it hasn't helpedt.

Maria's pretty much a what you see is what you get character. She doesn't get any new equipment or skills in the DLC levels besides Philosopher Stones (which aren't very good) and Sonic Boots.

I'm going to have start doing chapter 10 hard solo, Literally no one helps me against Dracula and it takes 10 minutes to kill a 5/6 party Dracula.
You'd think people who have caught on why I'm killing him solo and easily dodging his attacks, but nope, they just wait outside or go in the room and get killed.

his entire lower body gets hurt when he lowers his arm, almost everyone thought that only the red orb can but hurt but he takes 3 hits from Fish Head.
How have I never noticed that? Fish Head is what I normally attack him with, but I always aimed for his heart, and typically get three hits per toss if I throw it soon enough. And you're killing him with three heads on Hard? I assume with Berserker Mail?

Got Muramasa +1! Not much left on my item checklist on PSN now.
Still need.
Claimh Solais +1 Retro Boots, Armor and Helmet Yatsuna + 1 Badelaire (forgot this existed, mostly because even at max Alucard Sword +1 is better, which is just a poor man's Muramasa +1...) Fuma Armor Philosopher's Stone (Augh Yoko)
Kinda feel sad that the item hunt's almost over, even if the items are way too rare. Oh well, Retro equipment is be a big enough pain in the ass to keep the hunt going.

...Anyone want to run through some of the early normal levels with me? I'm only on level 3. Gets kind of boring after a while, and I also always end up checking out everything so someone to speed things up might be kinda nice.. If I'm too scrubby and all your characters are tricked out and would wreck the level I understand. >____>
I will send you a PSN friend invite to Admiral_Bobbery (my PSN is LooksLikeTwleve) whenever I next use my PS3. I'll be playing some later tonight, so if you're on maybe we will get a chance to play.
This game's community's already getting as bad as 360's. If you aren't Soma, Alucard and maybe Richter, you get kicked from most rooms for choosing anyone else.

http://img.imgcake.com/nio/81edpngej.png edwardsdv and swordz9 are basically the comedy heel tag team of this topic, why would people be taking them seriously?
So I finally buckled down and finished getting all of Shanoa's spells to level 9 (Grando took 4 hours and 2 million gold worth of Mana Prisms to get from level 8 to 9). I had no real reason to do it since I have all of her rare item drops, but I figured I may as well get the completion.
Now the only thing left to do is get the Retro gear, a Yasutsuna/Claimh/Valmanway +1, the Feather Boots, and finish maxing Soma's boss souls (Legion, Beelz, The Count, and Ryuk).
