Noticed we didn't have a topic up currently, but what a day in the Champions League!
Man United scrape a draw after throwing away a 2-0 lead, and Carlos Tevez refused to play as a sub for Man City who were soundly beaten by Bayern Munich. After minimal resistance in the Premier League, the Manchester clubs are finding it tough sledding in Europe.
Frankly, the Magpies deserve their current position. Astounding what Pardew has been able to do with what he's been given to work with. Granted, it's early but there should be no need to sweat over survival for Newcastle this season.

Yeah, doing well, missed the Newcastle match this week because I was in Liverpool with religious friends for the new year. Perfect timing though, went to the merseyside derby with them!
ExThaNemesis posted... From: jck4332 | #029 I always thought Fabregas was overrated but after this collapse I'm starting to reconsider that. That's your problem. Thinking Fabregas was overrated is akin to just not knowing anything about football or the premier league.
You overrate him a bit, to be honest
The general consensus of Fabregas is about right, though

VdV goes from the bench at madrid to spurs and suddenly he's the greatest attacking mid since sliced bread.
Aguero goes from second fiddle to Forlan at Atletico to Man City and suddenly he's Argentina's best striker ever lololol.
VDV was good for Madrid when he played and their fans were gutted when he was sold. At Hamburg he was regarded as one of the best players in the Bundesliga, and in Europe.
His departure was part of a political clearout. He would be doing better for them than Kaka.
Aguero was always more valuable and more sought-after than Forlan as well, with the exception of just after the 2010 world cup.
ExThaNemesis posted... From: Revenus | #031 VdV goes from the bench at madrid Then how does this explain Robben going from bench at Madrid to leading Bayern to the CL Final?
Madrid just don't know how to manage talent.
When the hell was Robben on the bench?
You don't know anything outside the EPL. Don't talk about things you don't know.
I'm not going to lie, after 7 matches we're sitting in 4th place which is amazing... BUT:
The only wins we've had this year are against the teams in 19th, 12th, 14th and 16th. We've only had one game against a side in the top 10, which we drew. We are massively overrated by the league table. Should still have enough more than about us to get 8th or 9th though. Maybe a sneaky push for 6th if we get really lucky.

People tend to overrate the players in their favorite league/team. Spain is no different.
My favorite team is Liverpool, but judging by current run of form I'd say that, overall, Italy is the best league in the world right now (team wise.) They might not have the best top team but they have the most depth.
It's also not really fair to compare players directly with how they perform in different leagues at different times. Teammates change, roles change, ages, skills, etc. etc. Anyone could see that Aguero was a budding star. Robben and Sneijder were great for Madrid but injuries were an issue and they've proven their worth elsewhere. VDV was always good.
Ultimately I'd say there isn't much difference at the top of the 3 big leagues (Italy, England, Spain.)
