these are the five movies marvel has scripts for, not the next 5 movies marvel will make. plans for captain america haven't been finalized as marvel is working on securing their 2013 summer movies, meaning cap will be 2014 with (likely) a new marvel project
and hopefully that project is this:
Ant-Man: Feige said that the film is definitely in the works and thatEDGAR WRIGHT (Shaun of the Dead) has "developed an excellent draft recently." However, the movie has yet to be greenlit.
thought i'd do a comparison between the books i'm buying from dc 12 months ago, 6 months ago (just prior to flashpoint) and this coming month. DC singles only, no Vertigo books or trades.
October 2010
Green Lantern, Batman: The Return, Knight & Squire, Action Comics, Power Girl, Secret Six, Zatanna Total books: 7
Really weak month. A lot of Batman tie-ins and other one-shots that I had zero interest in. Looks like there were a number of books missing from this month to make way.
April 2011
Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Green Lantern: Emerald Warrior, Action Comics, Batman Inc, Detective Comics, Batman & Robin, Batgirl, Power Girl, Secret Six, THUNDER Agents, Xombi, Zatanna, Total books: 13
That looks better. April was boosted by two Green Lantern titles I previously had no interest in but now were tied into a pretty decent event (War of the Green Lanterns), Snyder had landed on Detective while the rest of the Batbooks returned to form, and Xombi. Xombi was great.
October 2011
Batwoman, Action Comics, Batman, Wonder Woman, Animal Man, Frankenstein, Demon Knights, I Vampire, The Flash, OMAC, Men of War, Superman, Supergirl, Batgirl, All Star Western, JLD, Green Lantern Total books: 17
I could easily drop a few of these (Superman, Batgirl, All Star Western) but I'm both hopeful about the future and curious to see where they go. I'm buying slightly more than I was pre-reboot, but I'm more critical of DC now than ever. The reboot feels like it was successful for the first month in spite of itself. Rather than use this opportunity to bring in new readers, DC is satisfied with a temporary boost of sales due to curiosity and catering to the typical comic fan. They're not trying anything new. They're not using this opportunity to bring in enough fresh faces. The best books were often written by those new to either comics or DC (Lemire, Snyder, Fialkov, Cornell) while the worst had children of the 90s (Lobdell, Lee, Liefeld) behind them. There's little diversity in the comics, and even less in the creative teams behind the books.
DC wants to create a larger shared universe than they've ever had before, and I think that's a good idea, but what about the extended DCU? There's a Young Justice TV show that's apparently pretty popular, so why isn't there a Young Justice comic? Why is there no attempt to lure female readers? 25% of comic readers are women, so why is there only 1 writer? I understand that DC may not have received many (if any) good pitches from female writers, and that there are apparently a few writers with books in the works, but if this reboot is something DC has thought of for several years, they must have had someone beyond Gail Simone with an interesting story to tell.
DC are never going to have the hype and attention they've had for the last month again, and I don't think they're going to be as successful as they had hoped.

Kory was definitely being evasive/sarcastic because she did NOT want to talk about her past with them and issues that will come up later in the series. She does not have a memory of a goldfish as some people have been saying round the net.
Also, Jason was lying to Roy about certain implications he made in the first issue to Roy about Kory. I wont say what exactly because I dont want to spoil the next issue, especially since its not out yet.
Ha. Knew it.

Yeah read that earlier. The part about Lobdell getting visibly upset really took me by surprise. Can't imagine this is easy for him, people being such dicks about it.
From: KimPilgrim | #326 If that's the way you want to look at it.
what is not registering about Starfire serving no purpose but to blow things up, screw with Jason and Roy, and get ogled by both the male characters in the comic and the readers it was catering to in that issue
maybe lobdell can salvage it by actually building some semblance of character to Kory in the next couple of issues but you just cannot deny how demeaning that depiction was in that first issue with her cardboard character and all the fanservice shots!
I will say, the writing well that's especially subjective, but to me there's nothing sexist about the art. Sexual, yes, but no drawing a good looking girl in a bikini is not sexist. The reason you personally find it sexist has to do with the character and writing, which does not involve the art.
But long story short, this topic has been beaten into the ground for weeks, why do you need people to agree and feel they "can't deny" your take on it? Voice your opinion sure.

Except the point is that that WASN'T the only purpose that she was serving, there's an overall storyline here that's going to explain her reasoning and past issues.
This is why I've stated many times that judging anything by a single issue is absurd if it's part of a story arc. You're saying that all that's important is THIS issue, I say nobody should look to deeply into ONE issue of a story arc, especially one that's likely to have so many twists.

Well said. We should let the story play out and speak for itself. People getting way to upset over this.

it's not that she was drawn in a very revealing bikini! it's that the entire issue she's always in these incredibly suggestive poses or showing her "assets" further highlighting her SEXINESS just to titillate the readers!
Rocafort drew Madame Mirage the same way for Paul Dini but with more clothes. And Velocity in her mini with Ron Marz, and she had a skin tight suit. Do you takes issue with that? That's how Rocafort draws all women, it always has been, it would be the same if this were a Gail Simone book.
EDIT: Well, ALL women is exaggerating. There was Essence in this very issue, after all.

This has been exactly Starfire's role since 52, it's not a new occurrence.

I don't really want to get into this whole debate, but I'd like to point out that just because something has 'always been this way' doesn't make it good or the right thing to do. If women are being objectified in one comic, instead of going "Well it's that way in everything!", maybe they should, uh, stop it altogether?

This is not something I disagree with. I do take issue with people thinking this is suddenly a new thing and pretending the old Starfire was the same as cartoon Starfire, though.

not sure if I'm going to read anything now or wait till after I finish all my classes and read a bunch of stuff later
I don't know what it is, but I heard AC #2 might be a bit controversial! Check that **** out.

really? that is kind of sad then because i actually think his style is pretty good
yeah, i do take issue with that
and i think Gail Simone would have the integrity to tell him to tone down the SEXINESS
of course, i don't think Gail Simone would have written it in such a way that would put Starfire in that position in the first place!
TVontheRadio posted... Gail Simone would have the integrity to tell him to tone down the SEXINESS
If Gail wrote it, we probably would've seen Starfire's boobs get groped at least twice, and there would've been six more boob jokes/references to boobs. Gail doesn't turn down the sexiness, kind of the opposite.
Also, sexiness does not equal sexism. Yes, a book with male protagonists for a largely male audience will show the sexual attractiveness of the female interest. There's nothing about that which is sexist. Girls get twilight, and shoujo manga, etc with dreamy dudes. I've enjoyed some stories where the males are the sex interests for the female audience. It's all good. Nothing sexist about sexuality.

i should have put quotation marks around SEXINESS but i thought capitalizing all the letters would've been clear enough to show that it's the silly kind of "sexuality" that you think is A OK!
yes, Gail Simone has written stories with lots of sexual reference and displays of sexuality but the difference is it does not solely define the characters she writes since they're fleshed out in other ways! Starfire blew up things and f***ed Jason and Roy with no emotional connection and was drooled over by dudes
but as i've said, we'll see if she actually develops into something more in the following issues!
