yeah bro clearly I'm not a real fan because I mixed up the days of the week
I'm sure you were on top of every game back when the Phillies were winning championships throughout the 90's o wate I forgot that they're literally the most losing professional sports franchise in American history XFD
he's actually an orioles fan
i think he lives in baltimore and decided to cheer for the eagles for some reason
guess he doesn't realize it's not only the team in sports, but the name/city you associate yourself with. Some people enjoy being trashy.

XFD i'm just picturing some girl trying to flirt with him and talk about sports because she knows he likes them and him being socially awkward and yelling things like "OH YEAH NAME FIVE PLAYERS ON THE TEAM!" and her losing interest, rightfully so
also the yankees playing tomorrow instead of tonight is just to spite me as tonight is my first and only non-sunday off for all of july through the end of december (after which i start the academy and have even less free time)

I live in NYC, amidst all the thousands of frontrunning Yankee fans who didn't care until 1996. Yeah, I'm an Orioles fan. They suck but it's cool, at least I stick with 'em.
and no the girl wasn't flirting with me, it was just me calling out frontrunners like I usually do.

Dude 1996 was 15 years ago. How can you even think to call someone a bandwagoner if they've been a consistent fan for 15 years? It's not their fault the Yankees have just been consistently great.

Yea the Jersey National Guard. With my degree I can become, pending I pass the physical/training, a 2nd Lieutenant. for part time military duty it's good extra cash, free instate education up to doctorate (mostly masters programs though) and you're military your leg up with getting a job as a cop (sorry tim I don't want NYPD) is a level higher
plus pops served when he was my age. I'm liberal but still love this damned country lol
From: ExThaNemesis | Posted: 10/5/2011 4:10:24 PM | #114 This is meaningless if you don't live in the city with the team you like. Identifying with a city doesn't make you superior.
it doesn't make you superior, but it means you have enough common sense to understand that if you hate detroit, cheering for the DETROIT tigers like rock does screams HERRRPPPPP
and what's there to love? Man james if you grew up in eastern europe or something you'd be whining everyday. Life really isn't that bad here it could be 20 times worse. Cheer up, emo kid.
it's so 100% obvious why they play in the city/people cheer FOR THE CITY
they're not called "the midwest/rocky hill/whatever goddamn tiny suburb is there" Tigers
they're the DETROIT TIGERS. They're playing for cash, sure, but the organization is run/depends on THE CITY OF DETROIT. 2+2 james you're midway through college.
And that means what for me if I like the Detroit Tigers but live in like, Northern Ohio or in Windsor Canada and have no ties to Detroit I just like the team?
You say 2+2 but you unsurprisingly continue to miss this simple concept because of your high horse on this subject.
I love Arsenal more than anything but I don't know the slightest thing about London. I may not even like London that much once I get there but that will have little to do with how I feel about Arsenal.

Also it makes fine sense for Rock to cheer the Tigers/Pistons even if he doesn't like Detroit (as most people don't), because presumably those are the teams he's able to see on TV/live more frequently. What is he supposed to do when he grows up and realizes that he doesn't like Detroit, just stop cheering for the teams he's been watching his whole life? Not likely.

It's 10-1.
There's taking the high road and there's this lol.
It's also baseball.
There's a monumental difference between being down by a ton in baseball and down by a ton in football/basketball/hockey.
The lack of a clock means that any comeback of any magnitude is still feasible until that final out. Unlikely, sure, but POSSIBLE.
I'm not inflexible on this. I'm sure certain people leaving have legitimate reasons. If you're a surgeon and your shift starts in 8 hours then hell yes get home and get some rest.
True. A fun link for all who aren't Mariners fans, but I don't know if there are many of them in this topic:
Side note: Tom Hamilton is the most excitable announcer in all of baseball. John Sterling may be more over-the-top, but for pure volume, you can't beat Hamilton.

Left when I was almost 3. I don't remember much, but we have spoken recently and I found out that he doesn't watch or follow sports anyway.

I just don't see why Swift can't wrap his mind around this concept. Does what I'm saying seem unreasonable to anyone else?
If you weren't raised in or near a big sports city how are you supposed to develop this 'PUT ON FOR MY CITY' pride that Swift or SephyG has? And why does it make you a lesser sports fan? That's what Swift believes.
How the f*** do I put on for the middle of nowhere PA lol

Just found out Cliff Lee has inserted himself into the bullpen for tonight's game since he's gonna be getting work in anyway tonight. Most of the bullpen is spent after the past few games, so at least all is not lost if Oswalt blows up.

Also don't have a father to rear me to his sports teams, as I'm sure a large number of folks these days didn't.
see teh funny thing is, as james (extha) angrily text messages me and admits he's mad, he doesn't live totally in the middle of nowhere sephy. He cheers for the Pittsburgh Penguins and pittsburgh is a rich sports town that has a massive football following for college and the nfl. ExTha is teh definition of bandwagoner and won't admit it. He'll say oh I didn't have a dad, oh I had no sports direction... it's bollocks. Your mom is a buffalo bills fan and a penn state fan. She went to penn state, and cheers for the team. How hard was that?
If you're gonna talk to me about consistency and rational thinking give me ONE RATIONAL REASON why you cheer for the penguins, who are the same fans as the steelers, but detest/troll all the steeler fans around you? you wonder why they chuckle, yet ask me to think rationally.
You cry wolf, you've got two sports cities near you. You just picked out of a hat and now can't argue this conversation.
From: ExThaNemesis | Posted: 10/5/2011 4:45:14 PM | #127 maybe when he was a kid the Ravens hadn't moved there, and by the time the Ravens were there he was already riddled with Eagle fandom?
baltimore colts fans still exist. Been to baltimore, tons of colts fans (albeit it they're in indy now)
Philly is another local sports team for DC area people, that was more targeted to trolling Philly fans. Bug off james, you're very mad.
don't forget him ignoring the existence of the pirates because they suck and rooting for the most successful franchise in the history of sports instead

i'm sorry but all you do is run around here claiming how you hate america yet you pump money back into our pasttime and the sports teams. James, just stop while you're ahead. The majority of sports fans out there have some rhyme or reason to teams they cheer for. If you picked like one spot when you were a kid and stuck with it i'd 100% understand. Like Pirates are a joke. If you were a steeler/penguin/yankee fan, totally understandable. Fans want to see teams win. But there's no rhyme or reason to you. I've been there and seen you get foam building at the mouth when chastising the steelers to the point you cheered for your favorite team's BIGGEST DIVISION RIVAL TO BEAT THEM IN THE SUPERBOWL.
Two sports cities near me? I'm 2 hours from Buffalo and 3 hours from Pittsburgh. I cheer for the teams I cheer for because I had friends or relatives who reared me to them when I got into the sport. How hard was it for me to get in to MARIO LEMIEUX's Penguins when I was a kid? Not hard.
The Steelers were great when I was young too, and yet doesn't my lack of Steeler fandom counteract your 'ultimate bandwagoner' thesis completely? I think so.
And you fail to characterize my mom properly. You think she cares what teams I support? Certainly not. She would've liked me to be a Bills fan the same way she would've liked me to remain a Catholic.

BIG FRIGGEN DEAL what do you think central jersians do? all cheer for philly because it's 30 mins away as opposed to nyc being 1.5 away? It's a mix. Just because you got a drive a bit doesn't mean you pick a team you could only see play twice a year until satellite/nfl network came out for the hell of it.
From: TimJab | Posted: 10/5/2011 4:59:39 PM | #137 the steelers sucked for like 4 years in the late 90s, which is presumably when you'd start getting interested in the NFL
james is younger than us. By you two years, by me 1. Most teens give a damn about pro sports around 12, 13, 14 when it's beyond just cheering for or anti cheering for the parent's affiliation. Guess when every friggen team he likes had success or won a championship?
From: ExThaNemesis | Posted: 10/5/2011 5:00:29 PM | #138 Oh man Swift has no idea what point he's trying to make, he's just incessant on qualifying people as sports fans. Talk about all over the place.
We better leave this one now. I've got better things to do.
You're a bad sports fan. Period. You cheer for your division rival over a team you hate for no reason. You'll go crazy and cheer for the Pittsburgh penguins but then go OMFG I HATE THE STEELERS. Dumbest logic to exist.
From: ExThaNemesis | #142 Super Bowl appearance in 1995?
yeah but you were like 6 years old when that game was played. that's actually the earliest NFL game i have memories of but i wasn't following football at the time.
i'm talking like 97-00
they were sub-.500 for that whole 4 year stretch IIRC
Swift you are so consumed with trolling and making me angry that your ability to argue has fallen to near autism levels.
I'm going to just ask lefty or Rad Link or basically any non biased party to come in and ask who is being reasonable here and who is acting like an inflammatory idiot. I wonder who they'll pick.

new york sports is completely different because it's a two team town in every sport (we already claim the nets, they just haven't made it official yet)
sure there are jets/mets fans that hate the giants/yankees and vice versa and even the weird breed jets/yankees and mets/giants fans like me (although i don't think i've ever met a mets/giants fan), but i can assure you that there's nobody who lives in new york and like the giants but hates both the yankees/mets and chooses to root for the cardinals for no reason.
there are a bunch of yankees fans that choose to root for like the cowboys (i have a friend who's a yankees/lakers/steelers fan) but only because they're terrible frontrunner fans. like you and realo.
