it's got some issues that needs resolvin. mostly these are about the 2d sections since those are more interesting to me.

-camera is too close by default, and seem to do some weird zooming in and out as you go through the level. kind of jarring.

-everything is too blurry when you're moving at high speed. it's hard to tell what's going on or see the stuff you're passing by because it's blurry and the screen is really busy with lots of stuff going on in the foreground and background.

-there were a couple spots where the physics seemed wonky. like I'd be going down hill at a quick pace, make it half way through a loop then just fall down, having never let go of the dpad. the physics and controls seem far ahead of Sonic 4 at least.

-I'm not sure if this is a valid complaint since it was the first level, but there wasn't much in the way of enemies or dangerous stuff. I'm gonna reserve judgement on this until I see what the later 2D levels are like.

I'm on the fence about whether to buy it when it comes out. the 2D sections aren't quite what I hoped for, and I'm not into 3D Sonic. it isn't horrible of course, but I'm not sure I'll spend more than $20 on it.

Hahahahaha SEGA is such a joke. This was the main issue, I, and most people I think, had with it way back in June and they did nothing to fix it? Wow. Unbelievable. If they JUST fixed this, it would've been passable. Now it's fail.

Actually everything you said sounds like what was wrong with June's demo. They literally fixed nothing. Unless...

...let me ask you one thing. What did you think of the hitbox/jumping height?

I didn't notice anything, but only played through the act once. What was up with it, if they didn't fix it?

It seemed to me like Sonic wasn't jumping high enough, graphically, but mechanically he was. Each jump looked like it was jumping about 1/2 as high as you expect a 2D sonic to jump.... except he was jumping his normal height from a gameplay point of view I thing

Like... two examples:

When jumping underneath up to a floating enemy, it would seem like I was jumping (at a full jump) well underneath it, and well under Sonic;s normal jump height, but I would end up killing it (or somehow getting damaged by jumping into it) anyway.

And, when jumping to a platform, midjump it looked like I wasn't going to have enough gusto to make the jump, even running full speed at jumping at it, but I made it onto the platform anyway. Graphically, there was no way I was going to make it.

I'm going to ***** and moan until we get another game in the style of the Adventure games. Say if Sonic 2006 was done right. THAT GAME is the one I want.

Sonic Gen I think had . and still has lots of ptential. They just need to fix a lot of these little mechanical things and it will be good.
Its so annoying to have your character jump like 5 feet higher than it shows them jumping.

I have fun with lots of things made lately! this game is just messing up on stuff that it's predecessors figured out 20 years ago. none of the things I listed were a problem on the Genesis games, and they're pretty important to the whole experience. I'm not nitpicking that Sonic is too blue or his stomach looks different, not being able to tell what the heck is going on when you're going fast is kind of troubling. or coming to a dead stop in the middle of a loop. it's just like a "what on earth" moment.

COuld just be me noticing these minutia or maybe youre right and its not there. Did you play the first demo/notice anything then?


Also yeah they need to change that Damn zoomed camera too.

But I mean, it's not like Sonic games having camera issues is anything new.

I never played the first demo, nah. it's not available any more right? I remember looking for it when I first bought my Xbox and couldn't find it.

anyway I didn't interact with too many enemies during my playthrough so me not noticing doesn't mean much. it could still be there and I just didn't get enough exposure to see it.

Keep making these autorun mediocrities by all means, Sega! Just toss us an adventure-platform game once in a while!

While I disliked Unleashed day sections where you run with the camera angle BEHIND you (and I don't even need to mention theother half of the game), I sort of liked the Side camera angle... so looks like Classic Generations will cater to that which is nice. But like I said, gotta fix this zoom camera, jumping physics, running physics.

Sonic Colors gave me pretty much what I want in a 3-D Sonic game. I was pretty satisfied with it.

I will. It's not a "problem" though. I just want something different from what they're offering and voicing my opinion. I've been polite about it. It's okay for us to disagree about what we want from a Sonic game.

If Generations is as good as Colors, I'll be happy with it. I liked Colors a lot. I think Colors>SA2>SA1>Heroes as far as 3D Sonics go and...to be honest I was never really a fan of the 2d ones!

I personally think the Day sections of Unleashed were the best gameplay the Sonic franchise has ever had to offer!

I loved most of the Genesis games but I would honestly rather this game were entirely 3D levels.

I played the demo, the only problem I had was that I missed a couple enemies during the Classic Sonic stage because there was too much stuff in the foreground, though that was early on in the level and not a problem afterwards.

Everything else about the demo was amazing. This could be the greatest Sonic game ever made.

I mean, the reason why I say this:

The Classic sections really do call back to the Genesis days. It wasn't like Sonic 4 where the physics were a bit wonky and everything felt kinda off (still enjoyable). The Classic section felt more like a re-imagining of the 2D games. All the elements I love are still there.

The Modern Sonic stages have been tweaked and largely perfected. This is about as good as it can get for 3D Sonic, I think. Plus, it continues Colors changes with multiple paths to reaching your goal. And I see the drift mechanic is more prevalent in this game, something I loved in Unleashed and was generally underused in Colors. I don't like the fact that he switches to a spin-ball while drifting, though, as I thought the animation looked cooler in the previous games.

This is definitely more civil than your average Sonic fandom debate. I've argued with people who insist STORY is more important than anything and that the last few games were too cheery and not serious enough.

Honest to goodness, the storyline is the most important part of a Sonic game to this person.

This is why I hate the Sonic fandom so, so, so, so much.

When the Hedgehog Engine was first introduced, I felt like "This is how 3D Sonic should play" and was hoping they'd keep on working on and perfecting the gameplay. They seem to be getting better and better with it, and Generations seems to have handled it about as well as I think you can. Of course, this is all based on one level.

Yeah I love S3+K's story, actually. It's still simple, but Knuckles adds an extra layer to it that makes it at least somewhat interesting.

I was talking about this with yoblazer the other day when I was trying to convince him to play the Genesis Sonic games. The Hidden Palace Zone stuff is better than anything in the 3-D Sonic games as far as storyline moments are concerned.

Proof that Sonic games don't need voice acting to have an enjoyable plot.

Yeah I generalized too much.

I love Sonic Adventure but speed isn't really much of a component of it. It is at times which is okay but I don't like the mix of speed with 3D Sonic (when in the behind camera style). Which is why I don't mind the "side angle" camera as much, like what you see in Classic stages of Generations.
