What is IP again?
IP is the other kind of points you earn when you play matches. You earn both XP and IP and IP are the points that you use to purchase runes and champions. Yes, that’s right, you have to "buy" the champions, but you get the points for free so its not a bad deal. (You can also spend real money on champion packs if you would rather not take the time to earn them) The point is that you get the IP for free so you should figure out which champions you are good with and spend it on those. When you buy a champion you will have it unlocked on your account forever. And if you don't buy ANY champions, you will still have access to 10 of them. Every week there are 10 "free" champions. But they are only free for the week and 10 different champions will be free the next week. And so if you are level 1 you still have 10 champions available to you and so try them out, figure out which one you might like to spend points on and then buy it.

And so IP is good for Champions and Runes. You can also spend *real money* to unlock champions but you can NOT unlock runes with real money, only IP and so runes have to be earned.

To sum up:
You have an account that goes up to level 30 (this is your summoner level)
You earn XP (to level up the account) and IP (to buy champions/runes) every time you play a match
You have rune pages (with up to 30 slots)
You have a mastery page to spec (with up to 30 points) (and you can respec as much as you want)

This is probably a bit over-kill and so if something doesn’t quite make sense just ask and someone will clarify. And if you are going to start playing please post:
(1) Your GameFAQs name
(2) Your Summoner name (this is different than your log-in name)
(3) Your preferred champions. It’s just nice to know which champions people prefer to play or use the most.

And please BOLD THE INFORMATION so we will see it and update the list accordingly.

What is League of Legends?
League of Legends is a team game very similar to the WarCraft 3 custom map DotA. There are two bases, one on either side of the map and several "lanes" between the bases along which AI controlled units spawn. An overhead view of the 5v5 map looks about like this:


There is a base in the bottom left, and a base in the top right. 3 lanes connect the two bases and every 30 seconds AI controlled "minions" spawn in each lane. Everyone who is in the game controls 1 "champion" unit and your job as a team is to push your lanes and destroy the opposing base. The lanes are protected by turrets and so you need your own minions along side you to be able to kill the turrets without getting targeted by them. 2 bases, 3 lanes, 5 players per team. There is also The Crystal Scar, the map currently used for the Dominion game mode. The Dominion overhead view looks like this:



What are Champions?
Champions are the powerful units that you get to control. You pick 1 before the map loads and that is the champion you will use for that match. Champions start each match at level 1 their max level is 18. The important thing to consider is the stats of the champion you select will be affected by the level of your account.

What do 'account-levels' have to do with anything?
When you create an account you have a level 1 account. That is called your 'Summoner Level'. You are the summoner, and the champion you select for the match is the 'summoned'. You increase your summoner level by playing matches. Every match you play will earn you XP and IP. Earning enough XP will increase your summoner level with the max level being 30. Wins are worth more XP/IP than losses, so try to win. Your summoner level also determines:
(1) How many runes you can slot and
(2) How many mastery points you can allot

If you are low leveled still and playing by yourself then the game will try and pair you against similarly leveled opponents, but if you are playing with higher leveled friends then it will seek higher leveled opponents. Just something to consider when you start learning how to play.

Had a funny solo queue game tonight. Picked Rammus because our team needed a tank, turned out the ENTIRE enemy team was melee. I did well in lane (can't jungle with Rammus at low summoner level with no runes), even got myself a double kill, but we almost lost because our Lux fed enemy Yi and then ragequit. Yi was destroying our team, they had all our first turrets in each lane down and the second turret in mid, but then I started focusing Yi and destroyed him. Had Thornmail, Ninja Tabi, Warmog's, Randuin's, and Sunfire. We killed their Cho'Gath so many times in a row he ragequit and the teams became balanced in numbers, then we crushed them.

The question to ask is "What kind of champions can I start to play that will allow me to make my enemy go 0-5 in the first 8 minutes?"

Sometimes you have to analyze what is causing the bad players on your team to fail and start doing it to the bad players on the other team.

I main Nocturne. When your teammates start dying before you even finish your first 3:30 jungle run, there's not much you can do.

nocturne can grab his fear, and gank at level 3.

it's not usually optimal, but if it keeps your lanes up that's what you do. I've gotten kills out of it more often than not, too.

Most of the time, those players have no clue the capabilities of their opponents, and probably don't even know how to play their champ to the fullest either, and they just think that if they surprise the enemy they will get the upperhand and kill them.

I suck at harrassment, so I tend to be quite the opposite. I will mid as Teemo and let my opponent push me all the way to my tower where I can just pick off the minions with tower help. I hate trying to harrass because I always end up feeding if I do.

Strangely enough, the only champ I feel confident harrassing with is Sona because she is pretty sustainable, and I usually have a partner who like to take advantage of that fact.

Red was forced to support... but we managed to win anyways =P Enemy fizz was worthless and our morg played pretty well. But we still managed to feed enemy nocturne. So we started to comeback, won a fight, took baron... then they surrendered even though the game was far from over. Oh well.

19 Kills, 34 Deaths, 76 Assists
2.79 KDA


Not quite as good as our Rank Teams games, but at least we maintained position over the 8 games.

Speaking of which, you should have seen the Fizz massacre earlier today Ermine. A Fizz teamed up with Ashe on bot against me (graves) and Alistar and the result was super lulzy. I got away with a double at level 2 once, then got a super mega lucky crit on a 4% chance to kill Fizz when he had me dead to rights, then literally twoshot him with Q plus ColDam. He's really, really dependent on solotop/mid, isn't he?

I love this game, but I am terrible at all things PvP (not just this game). I feel even worse when my team generally blames me for the loss too. Sometimes it's for feeding, but I've been blamed for not being there during a team fight, or for not harrassing my lane opponents enough.

Think I may just go back to playing against bots lol.

Jax only has one skill that works with dodge, though granted, it's a huge part of his gameplay. I wonder what they'll do.

If you don't use smite at the right time on dragon/baron, you give the other team a chance to come in and take it. If they do, you missed smite

sometimes, you smite too early, and leave it with 5 or so health.

if you're enemy is trying to steal, they'll drop an ability on it, and if you just dropped it to 5 health, they're almost guaranteed to grab it.
