I dont dislike the last 1/3 as much as others but its still ok at best with a few decent moments

Also yes there is a noticeable quality drop somewhere around the last 1/3 but I still look back on it as one of my most favorite manga. It's a staple and I stand by my recommendation.

Near is awesome.

at first it's the best anime ever

then it drops off a cliff, into the valley of suck.

The first 2/3 is amazing. The last section is not as great, but even then it's not terrible.

its ok. not as amazing as people say, there are better psychological series (Liar Game, for one), but its pretty entertaining i guess. A good primer for the psychological genre.

It's good, but it's definitely overrated (and as mentioned, it gets worse around 2/3 of the way through).

Oh and as far as psychological series go, I'd highly recommend Monster.

I don't really watch ANY anime, but I checked this out because why not...

Death Note hit it's peak like, four episodes in (or whenever THAT MOMENT happened). It then kind of hovers around good to mediocre for 2/3 as people said, and then goes into snoresville for the last third.

I'd recommend it? I think?

Its pretty much widely regarded as the best anime for western audiences. Would hardly say it ever becomes a snorefest, its only 37 episodes long in total so it never gets a chance to drag on. The last 11 episodes aren't as great but they're still good viewing and the ending was well done and pretty satisfying.

10/10 anime imo

Well its all good until i think its 17-18 episodes, and then theres only 8-9 episodes after that.

26 episodes, and 11 episodes after that. if you're dividing it it's still two parts though, or five or six if you divide it further.

second part isn't as good and near's entire existence pisses me off, but even that is better than most other anime...and as much of a terrible character as near is, especially considering who he effectively replaces, the second part does introduce mello and mikami who are both pretty great.

I just can't get the Near hate...

The last third is just as awesome for me, personally. And the ending is amazing as well, and many people criticized it too, but it left me very satisfied. My favourite TV show ever, only behind The Simpsons and Six Feet Under.

I just can't get the Near hate...

he draws his conclusions out of thin air with none of L's reasoning, like this one scene where he's sitting in a room full of TV's and he just randomly points to one and goes YOU'RE KIRA. the end of the story that near is involved in just doesn't have the same cleverness and thought put into it and he's the embodiment of it. it's like the writer just threw his hands up and said "well I can't outdo L, so I'll just make a character that can see the truth without following any steps of logic to arrive at it because light is evil and can't win"

It may seem that Near is a Deus Ex Machina, but he wouldn't have gotten anywhere without Mello scheme.

It's still great on average and a must-watch though.
