The new trailer got me thinking about MGS4, and how NANOMACHINES, while it's become a fad and kind of a joke... is actually used a ton in the game as a terrible storywriting device to just explain things that needed to be explained.
The dumb thing is, there was nothing wrong with Vamp just being a frigging vampire. It wasn't any more implausible than Mantis being psychic or Raven having Eskimo magic

We are thought, and reality, and concept, and the unimaginable

Until Kojima reveals that this was all NANOMACHINES as well!

"Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!"
And it doesn't actually explain as many things as people think it does - they just use the word a HELL of a lot in the game. It's overused because the dialogue is so full of exposition.
I'm pretty sure some of the cases are so ridiculous, they have to be solved and decided legally through magical channeling of dead spirits possessing prepubescent girls.

I have no idea who you are, but I thank you for arousing me. - Beruga Brawl FC: 3823-8243-5663
Off the top of my head, I can only think of one case where the spirit channeling is actually a DEM and not a fundamental part of the case ('sup 1-2). Hate on it for being ridiculous if you want, but at least it's consistently ridiculous.

What is this, some kind of joke?! Go, then. There are other worlds than these.
Yeah, Raka has a point. The Umineko thing isn't just an explanation -- it actively ruins pretty much the whole visual novel.
Edit: Er, I left out a few of my thoughts here. This isn't referring to Small Bombs, but rather the major "twist" that explains how most of the murders took place.

No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.
Yeah, the only time Mia outright gives you the answer and solves the case for you is 1-2. Every other time, it's more like she gives you a second chance (usually accompanied by a big hint, which I think is the main reason people dislike it, although most of the time, the hint alone isn't enough to actually win the case).

Actually, I didn't mind the twist...it makes perfect sense.
Biolizard28 posted... From: UltimaterializerX | #008 The Phoenix Wright series is far worse with that stuff. If you don't understand what DEM means, sure.
If you're going by a strict definition, nanomachines isn't a DEM either.
