Seems like he tries to go the whole game without getting the fire tunic. This is very risky for Volvagia, as it randomly flies around the stage. If it flies around too much, time will run out and it'll be game over.

Volvagia stayed in the air forever on the first flight, so Cosmo ran out of time and died right before he could get the kill at the end.

Cosmo was on pace to give 2:30 a credible shot. I think he was probably going to end up just ahead of it, but it didn't seem implausible that that run was going for sub-2:30 until Volvagia derailed it.

No it's an awesome game to speedrun. OoT is like a mid-tier Zelda for me but it's so amazing to watch because of how easy it is to break over your knee and do things that you were never supposed to be able to. All N64 games are really.

Yeah, I can't get into OoT speedruns very much to be honest, whereas SM64 might very well be the most interesting game to speedrun.

I believe he missed the bombchu boost to get to the castle entrance in the WR which loses a fair amount of time.

Door of Time skip is essential for OoT speedruns.

The only dungeon you do as a kid at all is Jabu, and you do that one first.

He "doesn't" have bombs. The game just assumes you do and gives you them when you become an adult. Without a bomb bag though, he can't actually have any.

That doesn't make a game good to speedrun. Number of glitches a game contains is actually a pretty bad measure of how good it is to speedrun. Like, consider this video:



How many glitches are used to make it? Zero.


Compare to watching Zelda runs which are like...

20% cutscenes
35% walking across Hyrule field/church courtyard/other empty rooms
20% glitching through/over objects
20% intentionally dieing or saving and resetting to warp back to the restart point
5% Actually cool stuff like "I threw a boomerang and hit three targets"

I'd just...like a higher percentage of "actually cool stuff". Glitching out collision is stuff that usually doesn't interest me. Granted, I tend to be more interested if I understand how the glitch works--when I don't it's just like "lalala, I have no idea what the player is doing right now, or whether it's actually hard."

God dammit my internet connection crapped out and made me miss like a half hour of his speed run. I missed Bongo Bongo and Forest Temple and Deku Tree, UGH. I was really looking forward to seeing all that.

You can superslide and hit the outside of the Deku Tree in the right spot and you'll end up going through the tree itself, putting you on the "inside" and allowing you to hit the loading zone to make it think you entered the Deku Tree "normally."
