So it gives us a summary about everything that happened so far. Yahoo. So apparently there are three different types of beast people: beast-men, bird-men, and dragon-men. How quaint. Shinon and Soren give us a lesson, and then it cuts to Petrine and Ena discussing how they are on the right track to finding us. And then we cut back to Greil splitting us up into two teams! Greil is going with Shinon and Gatrie (Noooooo) and ambush the Daein troops. Ike and Soren discuss strategy and how to get Elincia to safety and then Elincia peeps up and says "I will fight with you!" To which Ike replies "No you won't." TOLD.
I took out most of the enemies with my boys Ike and Boyd. They managed to gain a ton of levels from it. Oscar's Iron Spear broke, which is likely why he didn't do as much beasting in this chapter. Not much to say about this one, really. I just had Boyd tear the spear guys down. However, what sucked about that was that Boyd's Hammer, when I wanted to use it, always missed. It was highly annoying. But huzzah! We escaped and all that happy crap.
So I just hate the name Rolf. "Elincia! Mist! Rolf." It's such an ugly ass name. Why would you name your child that? It's shameful. Ike commands Mist and Elincia to go to the Dallia place to be safe while they go rescue his father! OH HELL YES, ELINCIA GAVE US A MEND STAFF!
chapter 8 is also when you could start to use Titania for killing. overall it's better to "waste" exp on her and complete maps in a timely (er... turnly?) manner than try to give everyone else kills and lose bonus exp. especially if you're going to keep using her long-term.

My rivalry with SuperNiceDog turned out a bit one-sided.
Last playthrough I had of FE:PoR I absolutely dominated every map with Soren and Nephenee. I didn't even need anyone else. Stick with Soren. Cap speed and magic and he's unstoppable.
I think Soren is a naturally better unit than Canas though, he dominates the game later on. As for his magic spell, he can use thunder and fire tomes too, you'll get them soon. They'll slow him down a bit though so buy wind magic as soon as possible, Soren is still beastly with wind magic anyway.
Also, I always thought Soren hating on stuff and providing cold strategic advice was kind of hilarious.
-- SuperNiceDog won the Guru contest super nicely!
The thing about Soren v Canas IMO is less about Canas and more about how hilariously broken FE7 Luna is. That is such a huge advantage for Canas, and Soren's not really going to get anything on its level to compare to it.
-- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? GotD (219/384) Melee v FFX
I'm just saying that Canas carried my entire team in FE7! I didn't mean to start a debate! Canas was legit my first maxed out character in that game because he dominated so hard.

Soren is not a great unit, but he's strictly superior to every mage other than Tormod, who needs a pile of bexp. Canas is like, the 6th best magic unit in his game.

So we go looking for Greil and Soren says we ought to bail back to Gallio because this is worthless. Sure bud! But then Titania runs up and says that she saw a silhouette in a fort. So we go investigate... and oh no! Deain troops appear! We're trapped! So now it's killing time! When I start up, I notice that Soren literally has 2 Wind Magic uses left. ...F***ing fantastic. Well, not using him much!
After the first turn, some chick named Mia comes around randomly. Alrighty then! Apparently she was captured though, and she was rescued by Greil! Apparently Greil is up north somewhere. Mia joins us, and it looks like she's a level 6 Myrmidon. The worst part about 3D graphics is that they don't have those goofily hilarious 2D animations like the Myrmidons had! Boyd levels up and gets on stat upgrade. Weak. But then PETRINE APPEARS A FEW ROUNDS LATER OH NOOOO! But then Greil drops by to look like a badass! And then he calls Ike a dumb pup. XD He challenges the b**** to a battle outside and she agrees because they both got powers. Shinon and Gatrie then join us all too!
...But then Mia dies. ...Soooo restart!

My top 5 Fire Emblem characters would probably be Joshua, Mia, Kieran, Canas, and Ayra/Lakche (couldn't choose just one, they're practically identical anyway).
<3 Myrmidons.
Honorable mention to Pent.

xfd dude, it's just a popularity contest on the internets. -Vlado
So, uh... for some reason, Petrine and her goons all pop up after the second round. I really don't get what I did differently to trigger that! Anyway, it went better this time! I managed to get peeps some levels, and I got everything from the chests. The Armorslayer I gave to Mia, the Ward I gave to Rhys, and I have no idea what to do with the Miracle, but Shinon has it. Oh! And I got a Fire spell to give to Soren too, so that crisis was solved. I have Shinon talk to Ike, and Ike asks if he's alright and Shinon tells him he is completely fine and that he'll have to work twice as hard now to save Ike's sorry carcass. XD Shinon decimating Ike. And then Gatrie is more lighthearted in talking to him. "You'll think it foolish, but I was worried about all of you." "Aww... you're going to make my cry, you silly pup!" lolz
And Soren levels up and gains NOTHING AGAIN. F*** this guy.
And WOAH the boss has Elfire! Anyway, I kill him with Oscar after Ike weakens him, and everybody's aaaaaalright! Then we cut to Petrine fighting Greil, and then all of a sudden, Daein's men all swarm the room! The Gallian beast people come to the rescue though! Yaaaay. Then THE BLACK KNIGHT comes and tells Petrine to go away. Well, that was awkward. I remember The Black Knight is Ike's rival or something though. Some dude named Ranulf tells us the princess asked to give us aid. Ranulf decides to let us stay in a castle close to Gellia and Greil seems out of it. Ike talks to him later that night. Ike asks his dad why he's putting him in charge, and then Greil asks if he remembers his mom. And then he tells Ike to get the hell back to the castle. lulz This is like, the most ridiculous father-son relationship ever. Ike runs after Greil when he runs off though, and Greil is seen fighting DA BLACK KNIGHT. The Black Knight tries to give Greil a sword to make it more fair, but Greil tells him to f off before getting impaled. Greil stumbles back and Ike grabs him.
The Black Knight then asks Greil for the whereabouts of something, but Greil refuses to talk. He says he'll kill Ike and Mist, and Ike fights the Black Knight and gets beat down before beast reinforcements come again! The Black Knight uses teleport and Ike tries carrying Greil back. Greil tells him to take care of everything and to live at Gallio without thoughts of revenge. Aaaand, that's finally the end of the chapter. Whew. Only getting through one today, unfortunately.
Gameplay tip. Somewhere in the Unit List is a list of which units can talk to which units. When the game isn't kindly hinting who recruits who, poke around in the Unit List and see if it tells you there. (There are some recruitment... hiccups, let's say... despite this feature. But it doesn't hurt to check the thing.)
-- I don't like this duchy. Now, it's an adventurer.
So Greil is totes dead. And they made a grave out of his giant axe. Ike and Mist are all sad and stuff. Ike says he'll run the merc outfit and Mist is all crybabyish about it. Ike thanks Titania and Soren for sticking with him, and then Oscar and Boyd come back to report that Shinon and Gatrie have peaced out. WHAT THE F*** NO! NOT MY GATRIE! AND SHINON IS PRETTY COOL! Everyone else stays with Ike as he's declared commander. Titania tries to explain how to keep us equipped and stuff and Ike tells her to gtfo. lulz
So now I investigate it myself! I mess with my items and give Soren my +HP power, because I guess SOMEBODY has to increase his stats! And then I give Rhys my +Speed item since why not give my Priest more speed? I find Support conversations, but my only choices are Ike or Mia with Oscar. Weak! I'll wait until better convos open up, I think. I find skills, but there's not much I can do with them. And then I find conversations I can have with people with a bunch of stars beside them. Merchant has 2 but everyone else has 1. I'm not sure what these mean.
Also, I can level up my characters outside of battle? ...So... uh, should I take advantage of this? Is it alright to use?
But I get the lodown on the merchant stuff, then I go find Titania in the woods, crying. Fun! Then f***ing Rolf who has a stupid conversation about how Mist is alright because Ike is there! Derrr. Boyd and Ike have a nice conversation about how Boyd will trust him because Greil trusted him. Rhys is praying and crying for Greil, then Ike drops by to say he can't cry for him, so Rhys should cry for him too!
I do some shopping. The thing I want to know is if I should use the leveling thing to actually level my characters outside of battle now, or should I save up for, uh... something?
Part 2 to come soon!

You can do as many of these as you want. One star means it's not really important (extra exposition or character development, usually), two usually means it will give you some kind of hint about the next battle or some other piece of useful information, and three means it will net you an item, character, or something else that is tangible.
