Ulti bragging.

I imagine it's probably not SO easy the first time through.
Definitely not as easy as FE10 with the Battle Saves

Make a support between Ike and Oscar if you haven't already.

It makes them both godlike

I really like the mounted flying units in FE9. They're all top-notch characters and they're all awesome.

Glad you got a good level up on a mage!

Ike is godlike without any supports, tbqh.

The thing with the Laguz units is that they don't promote, so they get less exp for things. They're very strong when they're transformed, but otherwise they're kind of only good for going to houses. FE10 fixed this a lot IMO, but yeah.

Mist and Rhys both have their advantages. Mist gets a horse when she promotes, Rhys can use some special magic when he promotes. But when mages promote you can give them knives or staves, so you can use them for future healing, too.

And I feel like you can have other people use bows when you promote them, but I forget who.

There are two ways to do Prisoner Release, the sneaky way and the smashy way. If you want to try the sneaky way, here is how FE9 handles stealth mechanics. If, at the start of the enemy turn, any of your units or the prisoners are within attack range of any of the enemy Soldiers, then the alarm is raised and you've failed at stealth (but can still win the chapter normally). Otherwise, everything is cool. You can even kill the boss without raising the alarm, as long as you do it without letting the Soldiers "see" you.

If you never set off the alarm, you get a bunch of Bonus EXP. Of course, if you set off the alarm and then kill everything, you get a bunch of EXP the traditional way and the chapter is less of a headache. Your call.

Also, since I don't believe the game tells you this, in an Escape chapter you earn Bonus EXP for every character who escapes besides Ike. So when possible, have Ike escape last. (Actually I think there is a "see what I've done that earned Bonus EXP" toggle in the Options menu, so you might want to switch that to "why does this even default to 'no' " if you haven't already.)

Good games?

5 is my personal favorite and 4 is very high up there too.

I should probably note though that 4 is very different from every other FE game, but not in a bad way. Just a different way.

Make sure you play 4 first since 5 is a side story to it.

Also they have the best plots in the series by a long shot.

There's only 2 (Just 'Fire Emblem', and 'Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones'), unless you patch FE6. Or can just plain read Japanese.

They're both good, but most people agree FE7 AKA just "Fire Emblem" is the better.

Chapter 10: Prisoner Release (Part 2)

So I decided after I got Marcia two levels, I'd let the other guys sit before I decide if I'll level up anyone else or not. Apparently we're going to Begnion now! Ranulf is joining us too though. We're going to save some prisoners though! Some dude named Volke comes up and asks for Greil, and then Soren says he has poor social skills. Oh Soren, you hypocritical f***. Volke says that Greil hired him for intelligence. MAYBE HE CAN GIVE BOYD SOME AM I RIGHT FELLAS? I'm sorry Boyd. :( He wants 50k, but Ike says we don't have that kind of cash. When we do, we can get something from him though! Anyway, we also tell Volke to come join us in getting the prisoners out. He agrees, but we have to pay him per lock.

I have a feeling this one is going to frustrate me.

Anyway, I go with Ike, Oscar, Boyd, Rhys, Ilyana, Volke, Marcia, Mordecai, and Lethe. So let's hope this set up doesn't suck. I save some dude named Sephiran first who is a monk, I guess. But then when I rescue Sephiran, he gets in line of sight of the soldier and I can't do anything with him. Ugggggh. Let's try this again.

Second attempt happens and I get Sephiran back safely, but then I get caught when Ilyana gets trapped in their Line of Sight stupidly. The units I save won't actually move without me dragging them around, right? I'm going to be done for right now because I have work soon. Any tips on this would be appreciated.

Prisoner Release is really easy if you're not going with the sneaky way.

You basically decimate the enemy (You can't recruit or do anything with Sephiran, but he should be fine) and clear the way for the yellow units so they can reach the escape spot (You talk to Nephenee and Brom with Ike, you talk to Kieran with Oscar, they go from green to yellow and start moving towards the escape door, if enemies are still around just use the Ike yellow commands and have them stay still/move out of the way until the road is free).

You open chests etc. it's really straightforward other than the yellow units, and I think they join you even if you don't talk to them but keep them alive (you miss on bonus exp though).

Also, Kieran and Nephenee are absolutely awesome and you should make them part of your team.

If you plan on doing things the sneaky way, I'd suggest looking at a guide. But I remember the gist of it being that you want to bring all your mounted units and have them carry everyone else around for large parts of it.

Chapter 10: Prisoner Release (2nd Attempt)

Alright! So bashing through went much better. Much more enjoyable too. I had Boyd take out a lot of troops because most of them were Lance troops, and he god stomps them all. Oscar helped as well, and mostly I just gave kills to people who needed it. I don't think I like Lethe and Mordecai. You guys should try to convince me to use them ever again. Aaaaand, I had Volke get some kills on people with lower life since he's a Thief and they typically get difficult to level.

Anyway, Sephiran seemed cool. Brom seems like he'll be some decent comic relief. Nephenee is strange. And Kieran seems like he'll be incredible comic relief. Dude is hilarious. The main enemy was pretty tough. I had Lethe do some damage on him before I had Boyd tank while everyone got some hits on him. Eventually, I had Ike finish the dude off.

Items I got were... a bunch of keys, a Statue Frag which increases Build (wtf is Build?), Counter skill, a Javelin, a Short Axe (I guess I can ditch my Hand Axes!), and a Steel Lance. Eeeeeh. Got a couple neat things, I guess. I had everyone retreat while Volke got the rest of the goodies and then that's the end!

Kieran is the f***ing man when he's talking to Elincia. SUCH TERRIFIC EMOTION! Apparently Geoffrey is still alive too. Good for him. Brom and Nephenee are just militiamen. Sephiran pops up and apparently he's a big deal! After a morality lesson with Ike, Sephiran peaced out. Volke tells Ike that he can call upon him when he wants. Will do, my Thief for this game!

Levels:
Lethe: Level 3+
Mordecai: Level 2+
Titania: Level 2+
Boyd: Level 16**
Ike: Level 15*
Oscar: Level 14*
Soren: Level 10
Mia: Level 10
Volke: Level 10
Rhys: Level 10*

Chapter 11: Blood Runs Red (Pre-Battle)

Ranulf takes us to Toha! Toha as a city apparently gives no s*** about Daein taking over. Soren goes off about how humans suck for a while because he's a depressing emo. Ranulf is going to get us a ship and Titania wants to join him because RACISM, but Ranulf refuses.

So here's my stats:

Earned: 114G
Spent: 1690G
Current: 22943G
Combat Exp: 804P
Bonus Exp: 200P
MVP: Boyd (Awww yeah)

I go through and outfit the new guys with weapons and then look to see who to give Counter to. I notice Kieran has a skill called Gamble that halves his chance to hit but doubles his chance to land a critical hit. Why do I feel like this is terrible? Should I remove this? I'm also thinking about giving Counter to either Oscar or Brom. I leveled up Nephenee to level 8 and I'm debating if I level anyone else. Hmm! These are the decisions. So I'm going to let that sit while before I start on with the next battle.

The only use I would see in Gamble is if you'd use a Killer Axe in conjunction with it, but it's not a guarantee. This actually reminds me of one time I equipped a swordmaster with Gamble and used a Killing Edge. (Which, btw, looks awesome in the Tellius games) He had a 100% chance to crit and, I **** you not, he didn't use a crit. during the first attack.
