...to see my ride getting towed!

Specifically my dad's ride, but he hung back in the restaurant to make sure the waitress Deborah picked up her tip. So my mom and I had to explain to the very short-tempered cop that it was indeed my father's vehicle while he very brusquely explained to us that my father had parked very illegally. I chipped in a third of the $75 tow truck fee and we'll have to wait a day or two to find out how much that parking ticket is gonna run us, but other than that fantastic evening! :D

That's pretty lame.

How was your father parking illegally?

The lot was literally full up, so he parked in front of a stop sign on the other side. Apparently it's legal but you have to be a certain distance farther back. He was not. He was literally parked on the white line.

He kept checking the adjacent lot during the meal, waiting for a space to open up so he could repark, but the opportunity never came basically.

Yup. That would do it.

Was there more parking further away? Sometimes, it just pays to walk more.

There were no spots available in either lot on opposite sides of the restaurant, and I'm told parallel parkers filled up the street on both sides as well. He would've had to park in an empty lot about half a block away and he's paranoid about leaving his car far away unattended like that.

I mean he would've done it if he had to, but he'd understandably rather wait for a spot nearby to free up.

What restaurant did you go to that apparently had 1000 people go to it all at once?

1000? Hardly. More like 200, but the lots were too small.

You could tell the place wasn't used to entertaining that many diners. The staff had their hands full and there was a 45 minute wait just to seat us. Food was worth it though. By "it", I mean the wait and not the ticket of course.

People do this?

It's embarrassing and/or bad etiquette for waiters and waitresses to pick up their tip before the customers at the table leave.

Not if it's like, given to you. Or someone is specifically waiting for you to get it, like I assume Gen's dad was.

I don't, but I guess he was worried someone else was going to take it. I told him he was being paranoid, but eh. At any rate, he left in a hurry when I called him and told him his car was being towed and to get his ass out here.

Yeah it is a little awkward but some people are paranoid about it getting taken. I have people that will hand me the tip before they leave.

Yeah... it kind of did. Not enough to totally ruin the evening, but it certainly put a damper on dad's mood.

I try to keep positive about these things though. I mean it couldv'e been worse. Could've got out there five minutes later to see the car missing instead of jacked up on a truck. Then there would've been the impound lot fee, and the cab fare home... Bleh.

Your dad sounds way too paranoid of everything. >__>

My favorite restaurant is almost always full up when I go, so I park in the lot about, as you said, a half block away. Does your car not have locks on it or something? To me, it'd be a lot more of a hassle continuously checking on your car instead of simply walking a block total and being able to fully enjoy your meal.

He is pretty materialistic. Protective of his car, and of his mula.

The car has locks but... he's just over protective of it. And he's perfectly fit for his age. We all could've walked but he dropped us off on one side, drove around for a bit and rejoined us later. Guess he couldn't find a spot and gave up.

And Leon, the food was well worth the wait. Best tilapia I've ever had, hands down. Not worth $75+ but... >_>

I dunno, there's something about realizing I could eat somewhere else and be done during the time it takes for me just to be seated that bothers me.

I don't know if I would wait 45 minutes to eat somewhere for the first time, but I would absolutely wait that long to eat at my favorite place, since I only get to once or twice every year.
