Tag. I've avoided this topic because I assumed it would be filled with spoilers and such, but it looks like it's pretty clean so far. I think I'm around 8 hours in now, about to enter Wallbridge. This game is so ****ing good. I'm in love.
So I beat the boss rush right before the final dungeon, right? I figure I can go around and explore, maybe try to do some sidequests before the end or something.
Some random ass robot blows up and destroys my entire party in one shot. My last save? Right before the boss rush, of course.
ahhhhhhuuuuuuuuugghhhhhhhh

Nope, it wasn't a boss, apparently. Pascal was like "oh **** that robots gonna explode better BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF IT." It was almost dead, but then it just kinda nonchalantly blew up and killed everyone.
I'm half tempted to switch to moderate and power through to where I was, but I dunno.

aww yeah got the Richard Narikiri Doll Title so I can use him more often in New Game+
For those who dont know
in this case you can create "Narikiri Dolls" which allow any characters to gain the moveset and appearance of another playable character (but you keep the original character's base stats)
So you could have a party of four Asbels if you really wanted.
You just have to Dualize the Doll of the character than go to Telos Astue and find the person who will give you the title
Gameplay-wise it was practically perfect to me. Awesome fast-paced but still somewhat difficult battle system. The Eleth Mixer and the not too annoying map system were great. Dualizing is cool too. Kinda wish you got the ship sooner but since there were TURTLEZ transportation it was all good. I actually liked skills and costumes being linked with Titles so Titles could actually fill a better purpose and its cool to micromanage which moves or stat-ups you prefer.
100% Voiced skits and all main dialogue was awesome. There were some voices that I had to get used to but I eventually liked all of them.
The story itself was the weakest part easily. I mean I guess it wasn't bad but there were a bunch of parts I just didn't care about too much. At least the ending for the Future arc was nice enough.
Characters weren't bad overall but I wasn't too in love with any of them.
That said a bunch of them brought some great humor especially in skits and battle victory screen dialogue.
If I had to give an overall character ranking (mixing personality and how much fun I have with them in battle) it'd be something like (from best to worst):
Pascal: Only character that was consistently entertaining in every scene she was in (skits, main story dialogue, victory screen). Certainly brought a bunch of laughs. She wasn't bad in battle, had a bunch of spells I liked from past Team Destiny games though most of them requiring getting close up was kinda weird.
Richard: 2nd favorite to use in battle. Implements a lot of "typical" Tales main character moves together well and has some cool magic spells. Can't go wrong with that. His development isn't too bad and he can be kinda funny in skits too.
Sophie: My favorite to use in battle. Like practically all of her A artes and some of her B artes. Being a backup healer is nice. She has some great moments in skits and victory quotes, but in the main story she was..alright I guess.
Malik: I usually dont care for (practically) full-time mages, but I actually had fun with Malik. CC allowing infinite casting probably helps and he has a bunch of cool spells from older games I liked. His boomerang thing was cool too. Similar to Sophie he has great moments in skits and victory quotes but it was just ok otherwise.
Hubert: I like his hybrid battle style but its a bit too complex for me to use more (though I might practice with it sometime). His present/future arc personality was sometimes entertaining but sometimes kinda whatever.
Cheria: Overall felt more like a tagalong than a real party member but at least she wasn't too annoying and served her few purposes well enough. She's kinda fun in battle but mostly serves her purpose as the best healer in the game.
Asbel: I actually thought he was more entertaining in the kid mode lulz. In the present (and future) he became kinda boring. His battle style was the overall least fun to me, though I do appreciate how unique it is with the whole unsheathing thing.
Gonna attempt to do a New Game + playthrough where I do as many sidequests as possible. Will probably go slower since I want to get caught up on animez and stuff.

It just does that. It explodes regardless of what you do. Equip one of those titles that reduce damage over 1200/1500 by 50%, and guard once you reduce it's health to 0.

There's always hope for better things in life. But you can't let anything, friend, lover, God himself, be your hope. You have to be your own hope.
This childhood prologue isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Game looks and plays extremely good. I wish the cutscenes were a little more interesting from a directorial perspective. It's just the characters standing around talking for five minutes. You gotta at least mix up the camera angles or something.
I have nothing positive to say about the game other than me and my friend have had plenty of laughs at its expense and the title system seems interesting.
I wanted to vent about everything wrong with the game, but then I come here and see everyone here inexplicably loves the game. And apparently it's not just that the child section is awful, because everyone here loves that part.
I legitimately feel like I'm playing a different game than you guys. This has been entirely unpleasant for me.

I haven't seen them in this topic! Maybe I just missed those posts, but every one I've read about it is all "The child section isn't that bad," or "I really like the child section actually!"

This won't be the last time I replay the game, and the kid segment, while good plotwise, felt too slow in battle for me to want to replay through it right now

"Duel audio? You mean like rap battles?" - termina_rzident KrahenProphet and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum.
I only got like one trophy in my first run through because I was playing on the hardest difficulty possible, unless I died, in which case I just dropped it one level >_>

A little late but uh, fair warning to anyone who pre-ordered and isn't far in the game.
You might not want to use the custom XMB theme that came with the bonus until you like beat the main game. Should Asbel pop-up from it, there's a bit of a spoiler on his pic that you won't pick-up on until later in the game.
Plus the theme itself isn't that great, I kinda wish you could choose what stays in the background since I would rather just leave it as that scenic background.

Or if you've seen any promotional material for this game ever since it was announced. It was an extremely poorly kept secret, even if we didn't know what it meant.
I can't even remember a time when I didn't know about that.
I was surprised when I booted it up and he DIDN'T have it.
