Varus seems pretty good to me. Very good laning phase. Then his autoattack range isn't too bad and his Ult potentially wins team fights. The lack of escapes/positioning that aren't his ultimate is very concerning tho. Also he pushes like a beast. What I'm wondering about him is actually what skill is leveled first. Q seems like the right answer because it starts scaling with levels pretty awesome, but W is easier last hitting.

Doublelift's analysis is that Varus is an extremely strong laner when paired with the right support, and his mid-game team fighting is pretty strong. It's once late-game happens that he falls off hard.

So try to get kills early and wreck the other team during mid-game, basically.

I would assume with Varus that you level W against people your autoattacks outranges and Q against people it doesn't.

You probably won't see Varus much in competitive play. When you're using his Q, you're reducing his all-round dps by not auto-attacking. If you just auto-attack, you aren't getting the extra Blight damage that he needs to compete with the likes of Graves and Vayne. It's a vicious circle.

Can't you just use Q as a blight proc/auto attack canceler though? No one said you HAVE to charge it to full every time. Though it's still there as a great poke when a tower is under siege.

Varus will be part of poke comps. He's also got an incredible CC spell with his ultimate when used right. That thing can be dangerous.

He is. If your team isn't built around him, the enemy team can dive him pretty easily.

Because of how many players are in this game now, ranked games have become a crapshoot and 1100 elo and 1500 elo don't have much difference.

Hell, I watch enough of FD/RED streams and people derp there all the time. The difference is that they know how to CS and ward so the leads tend not to get outlandish.

Every ranked game I play goes like this: I sit top lane and farm. Enemy tries to harass me the second they get all 3 skills. I either kite them around creeps or just kill them if I have someone like Riven. They immediately call for a Gank the second they get back to lane. It's like clockwork.

The problem? EVERY LANE IS LIKE THIS. no one CS's, they just play for kills like LOL is Call of Duty. I still have major flaws in my top lane game but the one thing I can do is not die which people find so hard at my Elo.

A lot of spectator matches have Riven and she always seems to do really well. I've considered her. Jarvan looks cool...but I hate the flag gimmick.

You can't think of top lane as tiers so much as match ups. If you learn which match up to use a champion in you will find a lot of them are very viable.

Garen has trouble lategame, bu he's fun and cheap (IP-wise). If you buy him and don't like him, there's not much wasted.

garen IS cheap and easy to learn but I wouldn't call him fun.. he's real basic.

and as said before he drops off lategame, if not mid. If you get a lot of early kills though he's good enough

Yikes. Had a match today with Kog'maw where I got super fed and lost. Our team had almost no CC (and one guy was so bad that he was essentially turned it into a 5 v 3.5) while they had Leona, Nidalee, Riven, Twitch, and a laser-spamming Lux.

Is it even possible to carry your team in that scenario? I feel like Kog'maw can't deal with that many people with mobility and range (and stealth). My team couldn't protect me, so even though I was melting people they just dove and wrecked me. I feel like Ezreal actually would've done better in that scenario just because of his escape.

Still a really fun character, though, gotta learn him better.

Caitlyn is fun in a simple sort of way. She doesn't have many tricks, it's just zone all day. It's fun in its own way, although I can see why someone wouldn't like it.

Currently at 1311 elo, the highest I've been since I lost like 3-4 straight games and went from 1397 to unranked (they were placement games)

I dunno why someone would call Caitlyn boring. She's the most fun ranged carry outside of Ezrael just talking straight skills. The traps + nets are fun to get away from things and hitting her ult on fools who are running away is really satisfying. She's one of the few carries that doesn't just have a steroid on one of their skill slots.

Yeah I just didn't mention Ashe cuz I have no idea who that was. DEM ARROWS. Towards the end of that game, when we caught Vlad by our wolves in the jungle, she fired an arrow him, which missed because we killed him before it hit, but it continued up towards top lane and nearly hit Graves and Skarner by our golems. That would've been awesome.

Which one? Graves got hit by two of them mid. That one where he dashed into the arrow trying to get to his turret was pretty awesome.
