Picked up Green Lantern #9 at my local convenience store (where it was the only choice besides one Simpsons copy and one Archie comics thing, but not Archie). It's... not bad. I've heard a lot of bad things about Green Lantern the past few months, but this wasn't too bad.

*minor spoilers*

It kept up the rainbow lantern stories Geoff's been telling for what seems like a decade. The Guardians are most definitely evil. We learn about the Indigo Tribe in-depth, and Hal & Sinestro are going to have some major trouble next issue. It was very talky with only a few action scenes, and it was gratuitous with deaths and blood at points (just doesn't sit right with me for a superhero comic; grim and gritty doesn't always work), but it was a decent story. I just wish it was a Green Lantern book with Kyle or Guy or Soranik or Kilowog or Arisia or Sodom Yat or pretty much any of the secondary lanterns. Miss those guys <3

I still wish this reboot was only temporary and that they'd go back to the original DC Universe.

EDIT: The Batman Annual was still really good. I've never heard of Jason Fabok but he's a really great artist.

He is one of the new artists tha Snyder has been pushing for on twitter since it was announced he was drawing the annual.

Alright, so I decided to get back into comics again today.

What I picked up:

Secret Avengers #27
Detective Comics #6-8
Amazing Spider-Man #686
Green Lantern #9
Deadpool #55

From talking to the very cool guy at my comic shop, I decided to be tentative and and not grab any of the other Green Lanterns and Batmans.

I literally only picked up Secret Avengers because I saw that Taskmaster was going to be showing up soon.

And I got Spider-Man to see if he's still "pretty good".

Any suggestions I will probably take into consideration if anyone has them!

Heh, while I agree Batman is the #1 Batman title to get if Catwoman doesn't count, Detective Comics is still slightly above average for me. It's a flawed masterpiece. I love the first issue, found the latest couple issues pretty good. So both extended story-arcs so far have fizzled out anticlimactically, ha nobody's perfect.

But hey, cool that you're back into comics. Speaking of those Batman and Catwoman books, coincidentally the first collected books of those both hit recently, hop on those with much haste!

For example, Detective Comics #9 is a tie-in that spins off of the big story going on in Batman right now, so yeah, Batman is definitely the one if you're sticking with just one. Also, Catwoman.

Anyways, just for kicks to throw a few other recommendations at ya, Invincible, Daredevil, and Conan the Barbarian.

If you're just now getting into comics, Green Lantern is not really a newbie-friendly series unless you've been keeping up with the Lantern mythos since Johns started his run back with GL: Rebirth. Especially not issue #9 of the current series, which is basically a huge chunk of exposition where they reveal stuff they've been building up to ever since Blackest Night, which happened a few years ago. But yeah if you do ever want to get caught up on the GL saga, it's really awesome and one of my favorite things at DC.

I would definitely look into Batman, as it's very accessible and awesome right now. I think a collection of the first few issues just came out?

If you like the current run of Batman, I'd look into picking up The Black Mirror, which is written by the same author. Same with the current Swamp Thing series which is one of DC's best books right now, alongside Animal Man. I mean there's tons of old but recent trades you could pick up, it really depends on what you're looking for.

Concerning Green Lantern, I followed from Re-Birth (well, a little after Re-Birth, but I caught up) and then went through Darkest Knight before falling out of comics again.

So I'm pretty up to date. Is there anything I ought to know about Green Lantern with the DC reboot? The guy said that Green Lantern wasn't changed a great deal.

Green Lantern hasn't been too hard to follow for me and I'm new to comics. There's stuff in it I don't know about, but nothing has made me feel completely lost. I'd probably get a better experience knowing all the history, but I'm still really enjoying it. It doesn't take much for me to enjoy a comic though.

Nothing major has changed except for stuff in Guy and Kyle's backstories, mostly due to associations with people they knew being different. For example, since the original JLI never happened, no one knows who Martian Manhunter is. Kyle in particular is a huge mess since a lot of people he associated with don't seem to even exist anymore. Jade, for example, has not been mentioned at all, and because of the ripple effect, Soranik Natu has also not shown up since the reboot. Anyway he got thrown on New Guardians, a team-centric book, while the writers sort it out.

Other major stuff is kind of being glossed over, but we can assume all the big stuff still happened.

As for since Blackest Night, there was a bunch of cool leadup and then a Green Lantern called War of the Green Lanterns. Basically, Krona comes back and tries to destroy the Guardians and the Corps in order to create a new order based on emotion. However, he is insane, so Hal kills him with WILLPOWER. This scares the s*** out of the Guardians so they strip him of his ring and kick him out. Then, Sinestro gets chosen by a green ring and no one can get it off, so he's back in the Corps and the "star" of the GL series. First thing he does is go to Hal and make him his sidekick. Currently, all of the Corps have some big problem they're trying to fix, probably leading up to another GL event.

Just like The Black Mirror, those stories were ****ing fantastic. Scott Snyder is an amazing writer for Batman. He makes epic detective-esque mystery stories and even more epic villains.

3. How have the Catwoman books been in the new 52? I saw Catwoman Vol 1 but I didn't know if it was good or not.

1. Yes. When the New 52 launched last September, Barbara became Batgirl again. Court of Owls is the first storyline of New 52 Batman, so yeah.

5. I think Tony S. Daniel is to blame for this one? Before the relaunch he had Riddler go back again. It's funny because both 4 and 5 were from Dini's run and both got reversed/ignored. Wait, not funny, terrible.

EDIT: Apparently that girl is named Harper Row and she is a new character of Snyder's. She hasn't appeared since that issue.
