So weird actually seeing comics in convenience stores again.
Even if it's just one comic at a time.
Saw Superman #9 and just had to get it. God was it bad. The story itself was okay: Superman saves a Russian sub in Russian waters and all the Russians were like, "Thanks, but get out of our country, capitalist pig!" trying to hide some secret weapon. Meanwhile, there's some other reporter and he found out Superman's secret identity! Some guy who looks a bit like Superman who works across the street!. Nothing amazing, but a decent enough story.
However, Superman's inner voice is not at all the character I expected. He just sounds so lax, so 'just another day at the office, doop-de-doo." Every other bubble seems to have some slangish phrase. Chalking on up, all right!, a poke here, a prod there, I should've paid attention in class, and others. The tone is just off. I know it's all up to interpretation, but he sounds way too young and carefree. Sure, he's the Big Blue Boy Scout and he should sound innocent, but he's too whimsical. This is Captain Marvel's voice. I feel like I'm reading the cheesy 10-years-old Billy Batson voice. Lois and Jimmy are fine, but everything about Supes himself is upsetting: the wrong voice, the new costume, how the new costume is just a normal undershirt before he 'changes,' how stupid looking it is, how dumb he seems with the monologue. With a different voice, hell maybe just complete sentences instead of missing one or two words to begin one, he would sound like he knows what he's doing. Actually, visually it's perfect! It's six or seven pages of Superman saving a submarine! Without words, it's classic Superman. With words, it's just horrible, horrible writing. "Look at me, I'm saving a sub! Being underwater is awesome! Hah, usually I'm saving planes! La-di-da, these Russians will surely be grateful! Wait they're not? Well, wouldn't want to cause an international incident. Maybe they're hiding something? Nah, but maybe?"
No art complaints. The suit is stupid, but the artwork in here is great. Great action, great character detail, lots of good background but nothing that overwhelms. Only one panel was off to me, but that ties into the 'young, hip, teenaged Superman' theme I'm hating.
NEW 52 READ: Green Lantern #9 - B Superman #9 - D+
And it's Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens! Booster Gold! Booster Gold was freaking amazing! Why is this crap? I know JM DeMatteis and Giffen had a great take on Superman in some issues of JLI, but that was twenty years ago.
I don't know. What are thoughts on Superman these days?

Anyways Talon is something I def wish I had the money to pick up physically but don't. Team seven has a very good premise but dunno the writer or the artist so will see if it ends up being good.

Pretty dull. Looking forward to Lobdell taking it over.

TALON - Co-Writers: Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV. Artist: Guillem March.

SWORD OF SORCERY Writer: Christy Marx. Artist: Aaron Lopresti. Featuring the return of Amethyst, Amy Winston leads a strange life on the road with her mother and resents it. Shes about to learn its all been necessary when she discovers shes the lost princess of Gemworldand shes being hunted by her murderous aunt. With a back-up story written by Tony Bedard with art by Jesus Saiz, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the monstrous warrior Beowulf is charged with finding and defeating the evil Grendel.
THE PHANTOM STRANGER - Writer: Dan DiDio. Artist: Brent Anderson. Spinning out of his recent appearances in JUSTICE LEAGUE and DCs Free Comic Book Day story, learn more about the true origin of The Phantom Stranger and his connection to the mysterious Pandora.
TEAM SEVEN - Writer: Justin Jordan. Artist: Jesus Merino. Set in the early days of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, threads of the entire DC Universe collide. As Superman emerges, so does the worlds counter measures against him and his kind. Team 7 is comprised of Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor, John Lynch, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash and Slade Wilson and their story will change everything you know about DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.
This all sounds awesome. SO AWESOME. They got Justin Jordan for a comic which is GREAT, he writes Luthor STrode which is kind of vaguely like Kick Ass except good. Jesus Merino on ACTUAL art instead of finishes like they've been making him do on Superman is great. Brett Anderson on art for Phantom Stranger, ridiculous, and after OMAC I'm fine with DiDio. Talon, don't need to even say anything, but March on art tells me he's probably done with Catwoman. Sword of Sorcery? More like Shadowpact. I don't know s*** about Christy Marx, but it seems this is the kind of stuff she's used to writing!
Always lame to see that tracing stuff, notably with Land of course. Savlador Larroca is an artist I'm a fan of when he's doing his cartoony freehand stuff, like X-Treme X-Men back in the day etc, so yeah that'sa no good.
And yessir I just purchased that Ame-Comi WW stuff, love that creative team of course. Only complaint is Comixology is less cool than my usual comic viewers. Plus Power Girl etc coming up, groooovy.
-- One Piece: Pirates with style! -= Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action =-
Yeah it was actually taken from the tumblr that has literally hundreds of Land pics that show blatant tracing and lack of any anatomical understanding.
Gotta love it.
All this because I was looking up an actual GOOD piece of art:
I bet Land would have just stolen the real Pieta and painted it.

Avengers Academy was OK. Minutemen was good but I just don't care about Watchmen (just reread it, too) so meh. Animal Man and Swamp Thing both crazy good. Dial H is easily one of the top 5 DC books. World's Finest was Solid, Earth 2 was better, both were good though. G.I. Combat feels kind of....short? Good art at least. Action Comics is getting weird. Batwing is also slipping a bit, wish it would stop tying in to the Batfamily, I don't think the increased sales are worth it. Green Arrow is f***ing crazy. Literally. JLI was interesting, but I think I'm more interested in each of the new 4 books so not too sad to see it go. Stormwatch was OK, Red Lanterns #10 was a way better issue of Stormwatch than Stormwatch #10! Creator Owned Comics was interesting but I don't know if I'm willing to drop $4 on what it's bringing to the table. Journey into Mystery was fantastic.
Batwing #0 looks like it might be interesting. Captain Atom ending isn't really a surprise. I wonder if two other books will be getting the #0 as their last issue then.

This has been the plot of Snyder's backup story in Batman for months <_<
I'm actually really glad Captain Atom was cancelled.
It took an interesting idea, kept it going as a single story for the entirety of it's run, kept the same exceptional artist for every single issue, and never had any filler issues. It really could only have gone downhill if it had kept going. I think I'm probably going to buy this, wish they would put it out as a single book one day. A solid addition to the DC library.

Oh I forgot about that. It was only in #9 so far, I thought.
That doesn't my opinion that I think it's dumb! I liked Batman's origin story because it was simple, some random nobody named Joe Chill shot down Martha and Thomas because he needed cash. I don't know that I like it as much if it was as a result of some diabolical scheme to kill the Waynes by the Court of Owls or whatever. Who Joe Chill was never was really important.
Although now that I said that, watch it to turn out to be all the writers pulling a fast one. There WAS a scheme to kill the Waynes, but it never happened because some completely unrelated guy killed them instead. That would be something.
Disappointed that #0 doesn't kick off Sinestro: Secret Origin, but I'm sure we'll get that eventually. Instead, BLACK ISLAMIC GREEN LANTERN..............WITH A GUN Most likely an antagonist too judging from his red eyes (but no I'm pretty sure he was the guy in the Trinity War preview) I need this to come out so I know what the hell I'm looking at here.

Artemis dying made me happy. And when Caldur showed up I was hoping he would be the one to kill her, and he did, and I was like f*** yes. And then instead it just became JUST AS PLANNED. Everyone watching this show already knew Caldur was just undercover. I was hoping it would go for a less cliche route but NOPE. Lame.
I never thought Caldur was undercover. I wasn't glad Artemis "died" I would have been very upset of Caldur had actually killed her. I really like the direction the plot is taking.
I don't know how you could have possibly thought that Caldur actually turned evil just because he learned who his father is. It's like "oh yeah you were never there for me as a child but now that I know who you are LET'S BE EVIL TOGETHER. No. That doesn't happen. Luke never turned to the dark side just because of who his father was.
Also I hate Artemis, her voice is annoying as hell, I wanted her to be dead.
