The federal government does not have the power to classify people as such, only the states. I can just classify him as mentally ill with no proof. Harrich is now on a no gun buy list without actually being mentally ill. Government overreach is what we need to get rid of; I have no real problem with background checks, and let's not forget that the vast majority of gun crime happens from people buying their guns illegally. These gang members that kill each other aren't worried about whether or not they're on a gun ban list. As for this, I typed up a detailed message but the topic closed so quickly I lost it. As I understand it, the only people who would have been prevented from buying guns due to being "mentally ill" on the Obama law that Trump repealed were people who had petitioned for SSDI with certain mental illnesses. So basically, the only people who it would stop, are those who said "I'm too unfit to sustain myself". tl;dr A valid complaint would be that it wouldn't stop all incidents. Had my drink swabbed for radiation, had my entire bag and it's content dumped out, was patted down in full view of everyone. And then the guy says to me "hey, you need to relax" after all the questioning was done.
