Day One

I weighed myself this morning and I am 206.7 pounds. My goal is to be at 195 by August 21. That's three and a half months to lose twelve pounds. Pretty doable imo.

I'm currently on my way to the gym. Gonna do some mad cardio today.

You and I are naturally skinny and fit. Others aren't. Unfortunately, the mass produced crap that's sold as food in the US, makes people fat therefore they actively have to work at not being fat. That and the majority of Americans are lazy fucks who will circle in a parking lot for 5 minutes to get a spot 10 feet closer.

Diet is almost everything when it comes to weight loss. Exercise is good for overall health and quality of life, but almost all the calories burned in a day come from your body regulating itself and existing.

Excerise makes a little bit of a difference, but the main reason to excerise is not to lose weight, because it simply doesn't burn nearly as much as living does. It's mostly about being healthy in other ways. Calorie intake versus what you naturally burn off is the vast majority of it. I lost over 15 lbs in under 3 months last summer by adjusting my diet very slightly.

The main reason you should exercise is to build muscle. The more muscle you have the more calories your body burns naturally and the more food you're able to eat. It takes more calories to maintain muscles than fat. That's why bodybuilders are able to eat 3k calories in a day.

Look into Jamie Eason's LiveFit program. It's great for beginners to get comfortable in the gym. It's a 12 week program and there's even a great diet guide to go with it. Go to bodybuilding.com and sign up there, download the BodySpace app to your phone and add the program. You can track your workouts and progress on your phone and it's really easy.

No, im just a natural twink.

I had to look up what a twink was, lol - fair enough. Minus the gay part, that's basically what I looked like for several years towards the end of and after high school. I was around 125 lbs no matter what. I was terrified I'd end up a "skinny man" (because I have a few specific insecurities). I still look young for my age, but at least I eventually filled out in my mid-twenties.

Side-story: It's weird how different everyone is in this regard. I knew a guy in high school that could grow a mustache and was bulkier than a lot of adult men when he was in grade 10. He schooled our gym teacher in wrestling and the teacher was this really insecure, nerdy guy who leapt to his feet and was all "I let you win, but you could probably beat me someday!" We all laughed our asses off as things like "yeah, right" could be heard from the crowd (this was the same teacher that bragged to a bunch of fifteen-year-olds about how he'd actually gotten laid in the past while we were doing the sex-ed portion of the class).

Bah exercise can totally help you lose, and keep weight off, although diet is important as well.

As I have always said, your body will naturally stay in a shape capable to handle what you put it through every day.

If you sit in front of a computer/tv and drive a car and rarely walk anywhere, you have nothing preventing you from getting into a shape that can ONLY do that.

If you jog to work every morning and back, climb a bunch of stairs at work and are on your feet most of the day, unless you develop diabetes or take medicine that will cause you to gain weight, your body is going to stay in a shape that can continue to do that.

Just plain working out a ton while still eating tons of calories will not make you lose much weight, but it will cause you to gain more muscle (which weighs more actually), and be in better shape, which could let you actually work out even more, long term that would cause you to have alot of muscle mass but not lose much weight (just replacing fat with muscle mainly).

Also, just eating a tiny amount of food is not healthy and will not even work, unless your very careful how you do it (have many small meals throughout the day to help keep your metabolism up). In fact, starving yourself can even cause your body to STORE fat as it thinks it is starving, which can cause you to gain weight.

So the real answer here is not just one or the other. Work out, but also have some control over what you eat, and try to eat at least 3 meals a day (and try not to make dinner your largest meal). Try and eat foods that are healthy and don't add tons of colories as well, at least till you get to the shape you want.

Once your in decent shape and have a work out routine you do, you can start playing with what you eat a bit, and see what you can get away with. If your spending a couple hours a day working out, you can probably get away with quite alot, especially if your under 30.

Big things if you want to get in shape/lose weight:

Stop drinking soda or other sugary drinks (not even diet soda). Drink water or Tea (although careful on how much sugar you put in your tea).

Eat multiple meals, and control the portion sizes. Try and have at least half of what you eat be healthy foods (veggies/salad etc), and try and avoid excessive sauces/dressings.

Try and work out at least twice a day (it's better then just doing it all at once). This is especially important for keeping the weight off, and staying in the shape you eventually want to be at.

Most importantly do something that will work for you long term. Do NOT go on a diet/workout schedule that you plan on doing just till you reach a target weight. Instead, find something that you can live with, that works with your schedule and doesn't make you miserable when you are eating.

There are plenty of ways to eat healthy, but still have lots of yummy food. There are also plenty of fun ways to work out (try and find SOME sport that you enjoy, even if it's something like table tennis or raquetball. If your out of shape, just about everyone can swim or do water areobics, and areobics can be a fun place to meet people and socialize while you work out.

Biggest problem I have seen is people going on a diet/work out schedule and then giving up because it takes to long to lose the weight, or even if they did lose the weight they wanted. Often they will spring back and gain even more then they lost and then become depressed or unmotivated.

Even small changes in your current setup can make a big difference over time. Moderating how much you eat, and spreading it out more (change 2 meals to 4 meals with 80% of the calories you used to eat), along with just mild exersize (30 minute walking a day), can make a large difference to someone who was not working out at all before.

you really should only record your weight about once a week. it's fine if you want to weigh yourself but logging tiny fluctuations like that is meaningless.

you should pick one morning after you expel all waste from your body around the same time every week and log that number to see a trend.
