FF6 is so overrated to me. Like, that game is defined by good moments such as the theater, the cliff and the final battle (mostly by atmosphere cause the actual battle sucks), but when it comes to the actual regular and boss battles, there's not much there, and the battle themes are a downgrade from what we had before.
The cast is huge, but only a few characters are actually important, and even then you're kinda left wanting, which is a shame for a story-driven FF, which up to this point were the even numbered ones. I also never bothered to get all those gimmick rages. --- Backlog: Mega Man 64 (N64). PS2: Guitar Hero. ARC: Computer Space. Chrono Trigger is streamlined and well-paced but I don't think that makes a memorable game. This is going to sound overly harsh but to me CT feels like well-made RPG Maker game with a great soundtrack. It's fun while playing but it doesn't stick with you whatsoever after you finish. I think it's a lazy choice when there's a ton of RPGs that both aspire to be more and succeed at being more. Well, I have to respectfully disagree with the not sticking part. Sometimes the less complex storylines and gameplay do more for me just by their overall execution. I've played about 90% of the games on this list and beaten at least half of them, and I can still go back to Chrono Trigger at any time and enjoy it a lot for what it is. I can't say the same about most of the others, but that's just me. This being a list created by several people (many of which probably didn't play most of them themselves, a post by one of their writers on another forum even alludes to this) means that it was always destined to have issues and glaring omissions. ... I think there's like kind of a backlash against talking about a game's 'graphics' just kinda based on the push from 2D to 3D games and the drive to have ever-nicer polygons in the 2000's but really, the way a game looks, sounds, and feels is like 90% of what a game is, otherwise you might as well be playing an excel spreadsheet. I still DO that - it's called pen and paper RPGs - but CT is definitely a GOAT candidate as far as the presentation aspect is concerned.

10 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt I'll have to disagree on the top 10. I liked a few of those games, but probably the best one in that group to me is Pokemon which...ehh. (Admitedly, from all I've heard I'm probably going to like Torment a lot whenever I get around to playing it). But the others...FF6...played it, really strong game in some stretches, really weak game in others. Chrono Trigger, played it, didn't leave much of an impression on me to be honest. Vagrant Story, played it, lost interest and didn't finish it. World of Warcraft, actually avoided playing it for years as I was scared of getting addicted like some of my friends...and then I played it, and it actually kinda bored me, and had a surprising number of bugs (For bugs...I managed to get out of the starting area without taking the main quest, and then it locked me out, played for a few hours without finding a single quest marker. I needed to jump around the outside of the building to get back to the first quest in the chain. Not the kind of polish I tend to expect from Blizzard). Secret of Mana...haven't played it, because a lot of my friends have and they tended to shit on it and call it a bad game (according to them basically an action game with not much RPG depth). Don't have too much to say for the western RPGs granted (neither my friends nor I were terribly into them, outside of Planescape Torment which I still need to play). But this is just a severely underwhelming top 10. A top 10 with...No FFT. No FFX. I'd love to see Valkyrie Profile, but that's a long shot. Would be happy to see Skies of Arcadia here. Would be happy to see Koudelka or Shadow Hearts 2 here. Would be happy to see a Fire Emblem game here. I could totally see a Persona game making the cut. Just...god damn, obviously I don't expect any given top 10 list to agree with me, I expect some duds in the top 10, but there's actually nothing that I'm excited to see in this top 10. (Pokemon is a pretty polished and well-made game sure, I don't mind it in the top 10, but I can't say I feel like I'm cheering "wow, finally Pokemon getting some recognition"). --- Cats land on their feet.
