Only to a leftist can work ethic, self improvement, and personal responsibility be considered taboo and controversial.

I'm a leftist

I've held jobs constantly since I was 15, I've saved and budgeted responsibly, I put myself through school, and I'm a homeowner.

But I guess I'm just a filthy liberal who doesn't want to work and just wants handouts.

Pretty much everything in your post falls apart on the ground that he says to find a new job if you hate your current job. If you're stuck in a bad, dead end job don't bitch about it. Find a new one that's better.

My post does not "fall apart" from one point.
Furthermore, there are plenty of people who are not in a situation to find a new job.

You're brainwashed. The fact you even posted "that's how I know I'm not a millenial" shows how little self-awareness you actually have.

This guy is a walking contradiction.
He's against tuition fees, makes a big deal about the importance of education, yet tells people not to get into debt.
And to top it all off, he's worked with the for-profit school Universal Technical Institute. And "UTI is a For-Profit trade school investigated by the Senate. In its investigation, the Senate found that UTI did not provide a better education than a community college, but charged significantly more."

The truth is that he's just a fake 'blue-collar-guy' who's pandering to adults who stopped maturing intellectually/spiritually at the age of 13. This shit is designed to flatter their stupid, slavish existences and make a quick-and-dirty buck on the margin.
What's sick is that it's going to feed the beast of adults voting in favor of anti-intellectualism, vague bootstraps bullshit that doesn't square with socioeconomic realities or the real job market, and a whole slew of other policies that effectively cannibalize younger generations including yourself

But no no, we don't understand. He used to have this show called Dirty Jobs, that makes him an expert on jobs...

You might as well add a 13th point:
13) When I am no longer economically viable due to age, illness or my own failings, I will end my life rather than burden society with my existence.

I'm a pretty successful guy

I'm 27. I'm in the top 20% of the income in my area, and I do consulting work for large foundations, universities, and other public and nonprofit agencies outside of my real job.

My parents are drug addicts, we were intermittently homeless starting when I was 4 and ending when I was 13, and neither of them has had a real job in years. I have supported them my entire adult life, including when I was in college.

I think my work ethic is okay and I think this list is bullshit and I don't think you or any one else in this topic really has any insight for me that's gonna change my mind.

Cue what I said earlier about the only people in their late teens to early 30's with good work ethic are those who had to work for everything they have. My story is very similar.

And yes, Addy and I are both two of the oldest users on the board IIRC. I am anyway

yeah

but part of this, for me, is understanding how easily things could have turned poorly for me

it's easy for me because I'm smart and I've always been studious. I'm also white.

if any of those things weren't true, it might not matter how hard I worked. Or, I could work even harder than I have now and I might have achieved much less

I don't in any way consider myself a product solely of my choices

I don't get why people need to make generalizations that all millennials are apparently lazy and complain and feel entitled or whatever bs. I know plenty of people my age (I'm 25) that go to work everyday, work hard, don't complain, and live a good life. Whether coming from upper class or not.

Mike Rowe is a well known narrator and television host of "Dirty Jobs" who has a net worth of $35 million.

Uh, whats the issue?

If you are saying that he shouldn't have any debt AT ALL, I don't think that's what he meant by #5. I think he's talking about using debt to buy expensive cars and crap like that. Not necessarily calculated business debt.

Avoiding debt when possible is a good idea, yeah. I was more commenting on the "eating beans while living in a tent" part. Real easy to say for the guy who is literally millions of dollars away from having to face such a reality.

Not that Wikipedia is worth a fuck as a source, but...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Z#Date_and_age_range_defining

Randstad Canada describes Generation Z as those born between 1994–2014.

So they should be between roughly between 3 and 22 years old, which sounds about right.

You have said in this topic that this generation is entitled, strawmanned about growing up with their parents success, and distilled complex societal problems into "just work hard." It's factually incorrect and you keep on drinking the koolaid and refuse to address my posts because I don't log in or post that often.
Get real, the only reason you're like this is because you have fallen hook, line, and sinker and to admit that would be to admit that you're wrong and your entire worldview is wrong.

Whatever. You want to deny systematic issues that plague the country and tell yourself that the only reason people are poor is because they don't work hard, go for it. For the rest of us, we're gonna try and fix these issues for the betterment of all.

Second, the parasites I'm referring to are fundamentally opposed to the IDEA of work and success, are threatened by and resentful of others for being better workers than they are. Being born in a place with few employment opportunities has nothing to do with work ethic.

Stop shitposting and say what you do so we can make fun of you.

Think for yourself for once.

"Think for yourself! Listen to the person I agree with instead of your own impressions and opinions"

Conservatives have an astonishing level of cognitive dissonance

Quick! Deflect deflect deflect!

Let's bury our heads in the sand and blame others! Let's also demonize others that have a good work ethic!

and suggests keeping your head down, raising your hand for every shit job and having a fucking library card are viable life lessons. Fuck him and anyone who subscribes to his intellectually dishonest rhetoric

Like I said before, tell me how a poor person would be any worse off if they adopted these values. I'll happy match you point-for-point and tell you how they'll be better.

They literally can't, Addy. All they can do is cry about how we're brainwashed cogs in the machine without giving a single legitimate reason why good work ethic is a bad thing.

How am I deflecting? I literally responded to your "think for yourself" comment by pointing out its hypocrisy

I'm not demonizing those who work hard. I'm calling bullshit on people who think you should work hard for no reward like a proverbial cog in the machine of capitalism. Get that Jeremiah Fink bullshit out of here.
