I thought this feature on the upcoming Metro game was excellent:

Batman Ep 1 cleared

Controls seemed weird and iffy for a TT game, not a fan of all the shift + E and Q prompts. The link gimmick during planning or detective scenes didn't feel right either.

Faces didn't seem right, but I was having some performance issues, I did set the game to balanced and Tales from the Borderlands and other previous TT games ran very smoothly. I hope this isn't a sign that my PC's so old even newer TT games struggle.

I did enjoy playing as Bruce Wayne, I did like the banter, but felt a tad too many choices were be a naive idealist vs brutal cynic. Did enjoy the general storyline, but I do like crime dramas.

In fact this game made me desire two games.

1. A mob boss simulator that focuses a good deal on the dialogue

2. A Political simulator where you gotta maneuver your PR through all the media frenzy and shady deals.

Will play more of this after I check out Mario Rabbids.

I dunno, just general loss of interest. I've gotten to varying points of the game (I think Phantoon was the farthest?), but just fall off. That may happen again here but I've been in the mood for that kinda game and didn't want to pick up anything huge with FF12 next week.

We'll see how this one goes, only had the chance to play for like 45 minutes tonight.

I can help you if you need it. super metroid is a lot more aimless than the vanias that you're used to, but it's far from impossible to keep the trail.

why can't metroid crawl

i haven't played beyond the demo, but i know you get a map in hollow knight pretty early on. it's always frustrating when key mechanics like that are locked behind progression

Been playing a lot of For Honor, but not in the way I expected. The big team-based skirmishes and objective modes were what drew me into the game, but of course I'm also one of the many players labeled with a strict NAT (probably because of the P2P hosting), and I can't for the life of me figure out port forwarding. So I can't actually join any of those modes I wanted to play originally! At least not against other players, but fighting AI with human teammates isn't very exciting either.

So I'm left with 1v1s and 2v2s for real human competition. Mostly the former. And it was really frustrating at first because the strict NAT also means I just get matched with whoever I could connect to, so I get opponents of all skill levels. Getting demolished by players who've clearly been playing for way longer than I have isn't the most fun time.

But I like the combat system and the feel well enough to stick with it, and through experience and watching some video guides, I've built up some competency with the starter Knight class that I can actually win fights against players of similar playtime and eke out a round or two against veterans. It's very much a fighting game, but I also appreciate how it's really its own thing. Can't think of any other game like it!

The story mode is an okay tutorial for every class, too, with some dumb fun moments. Gonna wrap that up next session, then I'll get back to playing a real single player campaign with Wolfenstein: The New Order. I'll still be dueling constantly though. Need to learn other classes too. Probably gonna be my "rest of the year pick-up and play game" since I don't think I'll be picking up other fighting games or rogue-likes. Maybe Dead Cells when that comes out for real?

Yeah, I haven't. I played most of them at some point simply because of all the praise they got, but few of them stuck with me so I haven't been in a rush to get to the others.

If nothing else, I've played Fusion and Zero Mission and from what I've heard the framework is very similar, so I'm pretty sure I'd like the game. It's just not high priority.

Chivalry?

not familiar with it! reading up on it, yeah, it does sound similar on the surface, but it's apparently way faster and more twitch-based. for honor is very deliberate with its souls-like animation priority and stamina management. and yeah, with chivalry in first-person and for honor being third-person, the difference is starker. throw in the two other factions with vikings and samurai that play differently (that now also has a super fast ninja class!), it definitely feels to me that for honor has a way more distinct identity.

Apparently there was a big Fire Pro Wrestling World stream on NicoNico last night. It looks like the game is moving to pre-Returns in terms of unlockables, so skill points and moves will be locked behind progress in Victory Road and tutorial missions. That's a bit of a shame, I really enjoyed the freedom of Returns.

Introducing my son to Final Fantasy I right now. PS1 version (I'm not a complete monster =P).

So far, he's selected a party of Warrior, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage (named after himself, Link, Zelda, and Flitwick respectively). Lost all but the warrior in his initial sojourn into the Temple of Chaos (wasn't battling Garland, just randoms). Since then he's mostly wandered aimlessly and misinterpreted what NPCs tell him. I think he may be ready for Garland now but I'll let him decide that.

Update: He's beaten Garland and crossed the bridge. Ever since buying Dia he's been asking if every new monster is undead so he can try it out.

I have no idea how much was shown off at e3 for rabbids

But I was honestly shocked at the level of depth the combat system has.

Like people were trying out shit on a hunch and making strategies and combo chains work in ways the that really surprised me.

I've played a few hours of xcom and I think rabbids offers more ways to solve maps.

Xcom restricts you at times to increase tension and make survivability one huge aspect of the mission.

Mario rabbids seems to be all about letting you clear in as creative a way as possible. I was very impressed, didn't get a chance to really check this aspect, but character customisation seems neat in the extra properties weapons you purchase will have.

My daughter's four. She loves Pokémon right now. I have a copy of Pearl that I used as my son's starter game and recently passed on to her (the deal was that when they learn to read, they get their own copy of one of the newer ones and a system to play it on).

Update on X: He solved the 15 Puzzle in 15 minutes 29 seconds and is now sailing around aimlessly.

I played the first episode of Game of Thrones tonight. that was alright? it expresses the best of the show's tense, no-win confrontations and the Telltale's game-y conversations, so you can really feel the pressure when you have an audience with someone like Cersei and you try to think two or three steps ahead to get what you want. it's good. even though it's just an illusion of choice, as long as you feel in the moment that your actions have narrative weight, you can get through an episode satisfied. this episode had two such encounters, one between a known character like Cersei and another with someone entirely new. they were both properly menacing. I came out the other end thinking there's something here that works.

unfortunately those were the only two memorable moments. the rest of the episode was flat by comparison, while the game struggled to find time to introduce the cast of not-Starks and their plight that doesn't resemble that of the Starks in any way, nope. TT games live and die by their cast of characters, and this one didn't put its best foot forward. I'm willing to give it a chance though, there was enough here to interest me.
