My kid liked Disney Infinity a lot and the "step" kids like playing it a bit as well. The biggest issue is having to cycle through 3 kids in 2 player games. The oldest one is 7 and reads so I gave her Animal Crossing and she's been crazy into it while the other two pre-K kids are still messing with Toca Builder and Toca Nature. The kids are always so worried about what the other kids are doing, I don't really know how to break that up but Animal Crossing is helping.

nope! it's a really specialized kind of timing. once you get it, it makes sense, but it can take you hours to totally get it. super metroid is always an acquired taste.

Infinity never clicked for any of us. The kids didn't like the campaigns and the Toybox was a bit more complicated than Minecraft for them to make any progress.

It does suck that a lot of the big family games on PS4 are 2 player. Lego, Skylanders, Infinity - all locked to 2 players. So we end up playing mostly Nintendo and indie games. Starwhal is a lot of fun!

Update on my son's trip through Final Fantasy I: He's made it to the Marsh Cave, but decided he wasn't ready and left. Upon looking at his spell list, I discover he spent most of his money on gear for his warrior and almost nothing for anyone else (White Mage is still stuck with only Cure 1, Dia 1, and Shld 1, as an example).

Upon realizing his mistake, he spent the next couple hours grinding for money to load up his spell list and kit out the other characters. So he's clearly in the NES mindset already.

It always seems to be in the top 10-15 games played on Steam. It's pretty active. There's so many video games out now, particularly service games, that it's hard to keep track of all of them. When Techland announced new Dying Light DLC last month, they revealed that about half a million people play that game every week. Still. It's two and a half years after release.

I only played Warframe a bit but it always gave off PSO vibes to me and I wish I played it more.

i considered playing warframe on ps4 when i was checking out f2p games. i realized how much time i needed to invest in it to really get something out of it, so I didn't bother. maybe on a down year, if that ever actually happens again!

playing more for honor. beat the story last week. it was alright. viking campaign was kinda funny and hype! samurai campaign actually was challenging at points, even on normal.

prestiged as warden and orochi in the multiplayer. fairly competent with those classes. beating most players around my skill level and experience in duels. also managing some wins against players who have been playing for a while when they don't use their mains. got enough in-game currency to unlock one of the two s2 classes. will probably get the ninja!

started wolfenstein tno. i hate how you can't pause cutscenes. missed some dialogue because i had to get the door. left off after getting inside the london nautica. it's cool! lots of neat moments. bj could really lighten up though. i mean, yeah, he went through some traumatizing shit, but the max payne monologuing can be eye-rolling at times.

alright, super metroid done. mother brain was pretty easy, certainly more so than some of the other bosses. I didn't save the animals.

I think it was pretty clear from my comments I didn't really like the game. I can see how it was a big deal 23 years ago but playing it today, everything about the way Samus controls and the traversal feels real bad for someone who hasn't been playing the game for 20+ years.

I may give ZM a shot someday.

The lack of 4 face buttons ironically makes the controls better in ZM and Fusion. Run button no longer exists, and selecting ammo is greatly simplified. Wall jumping is also more intuitive.

Y'all didn't know about it because Square's marketing department did what they could to answer audio questions vaguely. Multiple interviews included the journalist asking about the audio and the Square personnel responding by stating that it's a higher-quality output now. No one ever followed through with, "yeah, but are the voices still super-compressed?" So there was a conflicting narrative buzzing around the net the whole time. Compounding matters, while many who watched the English-language preview vids recognized the compression, others were impressed enough with the better-sounding overall package to insist we were just imagining it!

It does sound better in general, being that it's on PS4 tech now. But yeah, voices are still a bit... Fran Drescher.

i'm a little over halfway through wolfenstein tno, and i'm absolutely loving all the moments in between the action. the actual shooting parts have just been okay though. hoping it steps up there as the game ramps up.

also for honor update: i am now competent with 4 classes. really love how different they all play too. i know i'm probably not going to get anywhere close to high-level play, so i'm happy with just dedicating my time to learning every class that the game never feels boring.

where are you at? I do think some of the early game is a bit too linear for my taste, but I didn't mind because the interplay between the guns is second-to-none.

just about to start chapter 13. the gunplay continues to be just okay. the combat encounters have become harder, but i don't find them to be that fun or engaging. especially when i'm going up against the big heavy armored dudes and rocket infantry that just chew me up when i'm not in cover. so that just encourages me to stay put and take potshots from afar when they're around. i'm fine with most regular infantry. i can run and gun against those guys, and that's alright.

i guess it doesn't help that basically all the first person shooters i've played in the past year push you to keep moving and give you plenty of mobility. whether it's doom, titanfall 2, or even overwatch, i was never just staying put and peeking out of cover to kill enemies. maybe i'm just not so good at this game, but i'm just not really digging the actual shooting here. weapons aren't that interesting either.

everything else though is great! so i'll see it through, but i think this one run will be enough for me. i'm hoping the next game is more enjoyable at that part.

and i'm done. i should have been using the laser gun to instakill the armored guys sooner. that made going through the last couple of levels easier.

pretty good final act. if i didn't know about the sequel, i think i would have found that ending way more impactful! still a neat way to wrap things up. also, bj is pretty much immortal in cutscenes.
