I don't want there to be expiration dates on spoilers.

I think it's definitely a step in the right direction. More leniency, harder crackdowns on shitposters, and a revamped system in general. Arguably most importantly, it was addressed to people ahead of time asking for feedback. If you try to be a nice person overall, there's nothing to lose from this.

The reason its dwindling is because Reddit exists now, and most non-console games these days actually have dedicated forums or at least can make use of Steam's Discussion sections.

And all those forums are handled MUCH better than GameFAQs is with regards to the "archiving topics" crap.

Archiving is a great feature back in the 90s and earlier 2000s since it reduces how much bandwidth a site needs to use and makes it easier to run the site and store its data.

But nowadays there is no reason at all for topics to be archived outside of perhaps the most popular of boards. There should at the very least be a minimum cap, below which archiving NEVER happens.

It's also pretty dumb that there's a 500 post per topic limit too. It's why we have threads like "sports topic #939"

Removing the ability to verbally defend yourself during a moderation is an absolutely terrible idea. I can't even count how many of my overturns have happened after already being upheld once. For my most recent one I had to appeal to the Lead Moderator himself to finally get someone with some damn sense.

Most of it sounds good except for the dispute process just being a button you hit w/o writing any reason why you're disputing it. I think that's a mistake, sometimes people just misunderstand what someone's written post means / miss sarcasm / etc..

They're changing the rules because the mods are out of control. The offensive category and trolling are so politically biased and subjective that no one can even know when something is going to trigger someone else. Also, trolling to GameFAQs is literally disagreeing with a popular opinion.

The mods are even allowed to judge a harmless opinion as trolling based on who the poster is. That's fucked up.

And the person who thinks traffic is dwindling due to people trolling or mods not being strict enough is either lying to themselves or that explains the irony of their perception on most things.

If it happens at all, people would stop posting BECAUSE of being over-modded. Where in the sam hell you think people are going because they can't handle opinions? This place is nearly a goddam echo chamber as it is. Talk about authoritarian and scary. Jesus Christ I don't think some of these people realize how dangerous their deplatforming views are.

These changes are amazing. It's like a wishlist.

GameFAQs is looking to be one of the best forums, it makes me think there's a chance they could survive the changing internet instead of dying with the past like I expected.

I mean, the only way this could get any better would be if we were allowed to post really NSFW things... but that's not happening.

Then he's not a very good choice for setting up these rules. And unless he can't see the conflict, all these messy changes aren't going to mean a damn thing because most people aren't just going to move left with him. He can either be neutral about all this or just prepare to be just as authoritarian as the site has lately been. At some point we need to declare these spaces public utilities. The first amendment is just a mockery if the some people rarely converse in platforms that are protected by it.
