Jeff Hoffman came in and gave up four straight doubles. Christ, the game is 15-9 now with two men on in the ninth. Still a big lead but how can you suck so bad at finishing the game

Okay, they won, but for a second there, uh-oh

Not since birth. I'm hoping to go back sometime next year for about two weeks. It won't be enough to see everything I want to, sadly. Even with two weeks, I'll likely be spending a lot of time in a very enclosed region around where I was born (Cartagena) and where a lot of my family still lives (El Banco).

Michael Wacha is a solid pitcher, but it's a great example of matheny's typical incompetence that he would have Wacha pitch into the 7th inning of a 1-0 game. You literally can not lose a game at this point and you let Wacha face the lineup for a third time.

Whenever the local news does their sportscast, they talk about the Rockies for 15-30 seconds, and then they talk about the Broncos for like a minute and a half. Every damn time, even if the Rockies played that day and the Broncos didn't. There are multiple weekly-half hour programs about the Broncos. I get that each individual baseball game doesn't matter as much, but it's ridiculous.

Is it like that everywhere, or is that just a Denver (and other "football towns") thing? I imagine that even when St. Louis still had the Rams, it wasn't like that. Maybe Minnesota is similar though, at least until hockey starts.

My local news covers both SF and Oakland markets, but SF is always more popular unless Oakland has a good team. Also Giants get more recognition than 49ers even when 49ers went to the Super Bowl. Right now I think it goes like this:

Warriors > Giants > Raiders > 49ers > A's = Sharks

Yeah, it's looking pretty good now. The Cardinals can't lose any more, and the Brewers can lose, but at best that will get them into a tiebreaker game. This is, of course, not taking into account any possible Rockies wins.

The excitement hasn't set in for me yet, though, so I don't know if I'll ever feel comfortable until it's 100% clinched. Or maybe I'm just not excited because they only get one game

Do you guys get a lot of snow in October? You seem to have snow delays at the beginning of every season, but I don't know about the postseason since they haven't gotten far lately

Mid October is the earliest I can recall seeing snow in Denver. Usually we get some by the end of the month, but I think there have been years where it didn't come until November. I sort of remember getting snow in the 2007 run but I don't think it significantly delayed any games.

I always look forward to snow and think it sounds like a good idea, but then when it actually comes I usually hate it

I liked snow when I was in school, but it just sucks when you work and have to drive in it. At my old job we didn't really get snow days, since it just went into your paid time off. One time I had to come in when it was really bad and the power went out or something so I didn't even get to do the thing I needed to be there for. So everyone left after like half a day; my car could barely make it out of the parking lot, then it took me like an hour to make a ~7 mile drive home, and finally my car got stuck in the middle of my apartment parking lot once I arrived. I guess it could have been worse though since it's a miracle I didn't get stuck on the road

I forgot, what's you guys' gameplan for the SNES Classic? I think you were each going to try a different store?

Near me, there's a Gamestop and a Target in the same parking lot, but at opposite ends, so I can't really wait for both at once. The Target opens at 8 and Gamestop at 9, so I guess I'll probably see what the Target line is like at 6, and if there are too many people I'll hopefully be able to get in the Gamestop line. Except that probably won't work because everyone else realizes both options are in the same place. Fuck!

I'm actually feeling pretty optimistic about it at this point which is probably stupid. Our plan A with the Walmart might actually work because we're committed enough to get there early. Probably around 8. Mainly I'm feeling sort of good about it because I'm feeling sort of good about nintendo producing enough units this time. If you get one, what's first on your list? I'm excited to finally play Secret of Mana, Earthbound, and Super Metroid.

Oh man, I didn't even think about 24 hour Walmarts. I got excited when you said that cause I could have sworn my nearest one was 24 hours at some point, but it appears now that it's just normal hours.

I'll probably play something like SMW or DKC first just to do something quick, get a feel for the system, make sure it works, etc. I'm not in a big rush to actually play anything, just to get it since I feel like this will probably be the easiest day. I don't wanna have to keep checking websites and calling stores to ask when they're getting the next batch. But as far as "new" games, Super Metroid probably tops my list.

I'm going to overcome my greatest remaining gamer shame and play A Link to the Past. I've played it before but never all the way through. I think the first game I'm gonna play through is Mega Man X, which is new to me but I've played a lot of the series.

The only one of the big RPGs in there I haven't played is Secret of Mana so that's exciting too. I can't recommend Final Fantasy 3 (now called 6) enough, and Earthbound is pretty excellent too. Super Mario RPG is very good but very easy.

I hope you guys report back on your results with Walmart, I'm curious if it will end up being as crazy as expected. Of course I also could probably google like a million articles about it.

Part of my plan is still to not have to go to a store at all. I set my homepage to open tabs of Amazon, Target, Walmart, Bestbuy and Gamestop for the SNES Classic, and made sure my address and credit card were saved in each. Honestly, I don't know how the bots don't snatch everything up from those sites in seconds, but I heard stories of (very few) actual people being able to place orders during the preorder period, so it's worth a shot
