I think the racist stereotypes continue because of incidents like this where it turns into a big deal. For all we know, the white guy had no racism in his heart and thought nothing of stereotypes. If the crew would have accepted the gift graciously instead of freaking out, there would be more people like this guy in the world who don't always have stereotypes on their mind and instead think about treating people equally first and foremost.

99% of people who did mean it to be racist would lie about it. Most racists are not loud-and-proud about it. That he said he didn't mean for it to be racist doesn't necessarily mean he's telling the truth.

The grown up thing would've been to discuss it professionally, not have some equally stereotypical event involving an overreaction and crying racism. It's like when that guy at Google said "women are more emotional" and then a bunch of them took sick days because they couldn't handle such an offensive statement...

This guy may or may not have meant to be racist, but that Google guy was deliberately trying to "trigger" people. You can't have a grown up conversation with someone who doesn't want to have a grown up conversation like that guy.
