Do you think people are making this kneeling thing a bigger issue than it really is?

19 y/o Gyree Durante, a backup Quarterback for Division III Albright College in Pennsylvania was cut for kneeling during the national anthem.

He said he was "taught you fight for what you believe in and you don't bow to anyone. I believe heavily in this. So i decided to fight for it"

Professional and College football players and athletes in other sports have been kneeling in protest of Trump's rhetoric that kneeling is disrespect to the soldiers that fight for their country and that it's "unpatriotic"

The school said Gyree was cut because he violated a team decision to show unity by kneeling during the coin toss but standing during the anthem. The school said the players understood there are consequences for anyone that didn't support the team's decision.

Gyree said "At some point in life, there's going to be a time when you've got to take a stand. For me, it just happened to be on Saturday afternoon"

This was the second week in a row that he knelt as a spokesperson said that the action to stand during the anthem was an expression of team unity and out of mutual respect for team members. They said one player chose not to abide by the decision and knew the consequences so he was dismissed from the team.

Gyree said that his black teammates stood for the anthem but that they sympathized with him for what he did....but he got no support from his white teammates as Josh Powell and Stephen Glynn were unsympathetic...Josh said although he understands why he did it, he said his act was a violation of a pledge to make a stand during the anthem.

Josh says "We trusted him throughout the week, after time and time again he told us he would stand. When you cant have a player on a team that you can't trust, he's got to go. Our men and women in military uniform deserve our respect and we all must stand to say we support everything they do for us to keep us safe from the bad guys"

Do you think people are making this kneeling issue a big stink over nothing?.

Not a big loss for him. Not like he would have ever made it to the NFL from a Division III college.

I can't wait till all the lawsuits from people being cut or suspended and the schools being sued for it. There is 0 legal right for schools to punish students for this sort of thing.

There are almost assuredly protections in place for institutions disciplining their athletes for "code of conduct" violations. Not to mention good luck getting a jury together that would actually side with people who are kneeling.

There is no law against this.

Juries only serve on some civil cases. This being a civil case, it's possible all it would take is a judge who sees things from the liberal perspective.

A liberal approach doesnt necessarily mean in favor of kneelers though

I'm aware of that, I actually work for the courts in my state, but the type of suit he was describing would almost assuredly go to a jury trial because of the recent controversy around the issue.

It wouldn't go anywhere. There's no law against what they did.

It's funny when Americans don't know their own laws. Supreme Court ruled in 1943 that schools can't dictate or force kids to salute the flag and this falls under that.

Too bad Rasmoh is a massive bigot and racist to believe anything he says. No court would keep him around long if they knew his opinions.

Wow, you're really going all in with the slander. Believe me, no court would even hear the case. Universities aren't public schools and playing for the football team there is a privilege, not a right. People literally try to pull "freedom of speech" violation cases all the time for what they think will be a massive payday, but attorneys routinely laugh them out of their office. One of our judges was laughing with an attorney about something similar just the other day.

Except it doesn't, considering that sports are an extracurricular, no flag was involved, and that case pertained to a public, lower-level school rather than a college and, as others have pointed out, it's a PRIVATE college.
