Watching Fate/Zero first does spoil Fate/Stay Night, but the trade off is that you won't know what happens at the end of it prior to watching, which is told during Fate/Stay Night.

So in a sense, it'd be like watching the Star Wars prequel trilogy and not knowing that Anakin becomes Darth Vader.

I think Fate/Zero --> Fate/Stay Night UBW is a better order. You get spoiled for some stuff either way, but the UBW anime was made with the assumption that you'd probably watch F/Z first.

NHK is darker than that summary makes out. that description just makes me think of some wacky character and the shenanigans he gets into idk. it deals with a NEET/hikikomori and the mental breakdowns, depression and social anxiety that plays a part in his stagnant life.

Yeah the main focus is definitely on mental illness. There's a lot of humor too, but it's not a light show.

Fate/Zero is an amazing show and I'd never tell you not to watch it. (In fact Jeff starting to watch it then vanishing from the board still is a source of frustration for me)

However, I have a bad feeling you would not enjoy it.

Well, I finished Little Witch Academia. What a fun show. I watched the two original movie things afterwards and the second was way better than the first, but the series was way, way better than both of them. It didn't become my favorite anime or anything but I loved all the characters and I'm glad I watched it.

One thing I will say is that I do recommend experiencing the Heaven's Feel story either in VN or in movie form before watching Fate/Zero. It's not essential, but I do think the experience is better that way for a variety of reasons.

There are some fans of the series who will resent what I just said, so take that recommendation with a grain of salt. (Fate/ fans sometimes have a somewhat bad reputation, and one of the reasons for that is that they supposedly needlessly insist that people start with the VN and not Fate/Zero.)

I can elaborate on those reasons in the event that the chances of you listening to me are greater than zero percent.

Fate/Zero good times. The anime was made to be accessible to newcomers, and the producers of the new series made them with the intent that you'd watch Fate/Zero first.

Well, the first episode was 45-50 minutes, so I guess that'll be enough for one night. Most of the episode was dedicated to introducing several major players and their motivations for wanting the Holy Grail. I was confused at first when Miles Edgeworth and Manfred von Karma were walking in circles and talking about all this stuff, but then they listed the seven classes of servants and I was like, "I understood that reference." Sounds like there's this big tournament to see who gets to have a wish granted every 60 years, and everyone yells PERSONA and then they beat the crap out of the other Personas or something like that. This is an all-star cast of English VAs, too, so that's nice.

Not sure who I should root for just yet. I guess this isn't all the characters though, so I don't need to make a decision yet. The worm guy is the most sympathetic of the lot because he's fighting to free that little girl, but his dad is also a total jerkwad and I don't really want him to have the Grail. What a conundrum. Also, I don't know yet if this is a universe that rewards this type of person or cruelly crushes them underfoot (Probably the latter), so while I enjoy rooting for a feel-good underdog story, I'm not sure he has a chance to actually win. I'd like to root for Kyon since his VA is so great, but he's apparently supposed to not win, so that sucks. Eh, it'll probably be that mage slayer guy, but he doesn't seem too bad, I guess.

I watched the first episode of Toradora! Then I stopped after one because these ads on Crunchyroll are ridiculous. Seven Canadian dollars per month might honestly be worth it if I never have to see ten ads in a row three times per episode ever again. I mean what's the point of a skip button twenty seconds into an ad if it's going to force me to eventually watch a sixty-second ad anyway before I can move on. I'm going to need to think about this subscription thing.

As for Toradora itself, one episode isn't really enough to have an informed opinion but I liked it well enough. Ryuji is apparently Leon's anime counterpart so now I'm wondering what aspects they share! For example, I'm now picturing Leon as having a super tough guy appearance. Leon looks so tough he has people give him their wallets out of fear, even though he doesn't want them!

I'm not sure how I feel about Taiga yet, either. I feel like I could either grow to love her or hate her.

Well, it's not so much a "tough guy" appearance. I don't think Ryuji really has a "tough guy" appearance either. I have been told that my appearance sometimes makes me seem unapproachable and/or unfriendly, and I was even told once that I look intimidating, which kinda baffles me because I think that's absurd. I guess it's because I tend to be quiet and I guess my default expression makes me look like I don't want people to talk to me or something? I dunno, but I've had several people tell me that I'm not the kind of person they thought I'd be when they first met me.

Taiga's great if you love her particular flavor of tsundere. She's my least favorite of the three main girls, but she's still pretty good.

Crunchyroll used to offer either a free week or month (can't remember which) of membership to first time users, so you could always look into that as a short-term solution. If you're going to be watching a lot of anime though then you'll probably eventually want to get a membership somewhere regardless.

Thanks for the offer! They offer 14 days of premium free already, it seems, so using one of these after that would effectively extend the free period to 16 days assuming it worked like that. Still, I'll probably wait until tomorrow to sign up for the 14 days either way because, after finishing LWA, I probably wouldn't watch much more tonight anyway. I gotta maximize that free time (not that seven dollars a month is a lot, granted, but it's the principle of the thing!)

I watched a few anime episodes on Funimation just to see how that website compares.The ads there are about a thousand times less annoying than Crunchyroll so that's good at least. As for the anime, I decided to try Restaurant to Another World, the one that randomly caught my eye when I was checking availability of other ones. It was... yeah... I'm going to need an additional section for my ongoing anime ranking.

Unfinished (due to being bad)

Restaurant to Another World (made it three episodes)
Gantz (made it two episodes)

I tried watching Gantz way back in April and it was terrible. This restaurant one was at least better than that but literally nothing happened in these three episodes. There was no plot, no real characterization, and no interesting ideas of any kind. There are too many other animes out there for me to waste any more time watching people eat food.
