Of course, neither did Radiant Historia but I plan on buying the hell out of that.

considering Hashino is directing and how his direction towards stereotyping and his homophobia is visible now.... it's unlikely how they'll handle this well.

I'm nb and just the whole term trap is so bad bc it's like ppl think we're tricking them, especially trans women and the trailer just seems like vincent is going thru "trans panic" aka shit that gets trans people killed

so who fucking knows how shit this is gonna be tbh... i'll just buy the original game. Erica's portrayal isn't clean but it sure is salvagable compared to what this is shaping to be. If it turns out to be a positive portrayal and okay, i'll eat my words.

I will mention though that the vast majority of "trap" characters in anime and hentai and whatever arent actually trans women. They're cross dressers who identify as men. That they get conflated with trans people is super problematic in and of itself. Not to mention everything wolfoflight said

Hm, i didn't know about the trans symbol on the site. Or the existing trans character. Who the game dead named in the credits and other material and who is treated like shit by the main character and subjected to plot points directed at men.

Given that rin is going to have her own route as a love interest, i feel there's a good chance this ends up as a decent story about a shitty person learning acceptance and how to treat people with respect.

I'm guessing there will still be lots of stuff in poor taste though, considering atlus history.

People are praising atlus representation of lgbt characters in the past. Really? Like persona 4 where a questioning trans character is told he isnt really trans and just hates gender norms? Or persona 2 where an npc uses a trans woman as the butt of a joke. Or p5 where the lgbt characters are just massive stereotypes played for humor? Or the original release of Catherine where Erica is repeatedly identified by her birth name, and treated by central game plot points as a man?

I haven't played the other games you mentioned but I thought they handled this one fine. Naoto is and always wanted to be a women, she just didn't think she could be respected as a detective as a woman and that was more important to her.

Was refering to the nightmares only given to men and the bigger issue of being identified in the credits and art book as "Eric Anderson (erica)"

Okay, i went and looked at the site and it's not *exactly* the trans symbol but its close.

Either way, this marketing campaign is very, very obviously designed to make people think rin has a penis. You can explain it away any way you like, and it might end up being a misdirect for something like an angel with no genetalia, but this campaign is very clearly playing into the "oh no its a penis"/trap trope.

Well it depends whether the VA change is actually good. Most of the P4 character changes were fine even though they weren't as good as the originals, but then you get things like Erin Fitzgerald as Chie which is.....just disgusting.
