Anyway, in Fate.......stay night, Rin creates a bond to give some of Shiro's magic circuits to Saber in an awkward scene that absolutely totally couldn't have been an h-scene in the VN. Then they formulate a plan to take down Berserker, which fails because they didn't take his resurrection magic into account. Rin blowing up his face at point blank range was pretty cool though. However, it all works out when Shiro is able to visualize and conjure up Excalibur, and then he and Saber perform a Dual Tech that magically takes all of Berserker's extra lives at once. What a broken move!

Afterward, Shiro adopts Illya as his little sister and she comes to live with him, which absolutely does not make Saber jealous. Illya does a great job of trolling her about it though! Plus, Rin figures out that Saber is King Arthur because only one hero could have a sword of that caliber, and I saw what you did there, Rin. I saw it.

Anyway, now that Archer, Berserker, and Rider are out of the picture, I guess it's time for Caster to take center stage as the new antagonist. She decides that they need to pick out a vessel for the Grail. Caster thinks Rin would be ideal since she's the strongest mage of the Masters, but she says it doesn't matter if they're actually good at magic as long as they come from a magic family, so she settles on...

wait this means Sakura will have some screen time in season 2 for once!

BTW, I haven't done the FSN wrap-up yet because the power keeps flicking on and off. It was off for a solid 40 minutes just now though so hopefully that's the end of that. It's too dang cold outside for this. <_< Apparently someone shot some fireworks up into a power line, so... thanks for that. ~500 people lost power as a result.

Better animation, faster pace, good plot twists, better development for the side characters, better quality ratio (there weren't really any lulls during S2).

I wish they had given better development to side characters I cared about from season 1 and certainly not at the expense of good important characters like Mikasa and Levi

the rest of those guys meh

It felt like Season 2 started a bunch of plot threads and didn't actually finish any of them

Thanks for the answer! Respectfully disagree, but it seems the common consensus, like Leon said. The animation was nice, but Season 1's was still good, I thought. I didn't find the pace or lack of lulls particularly different from Season 1 though because after the first half of the season, there's just a ton of time for the Titans running across the field + Eren in the forest with the Titan peeps that feels like it should have been condensed drastically and the better development for the side characters largely came at the expense of the development of my favorite characters, including the leads.

Yeah, what Leon said, for the most part. Season 3 needs way more Mikasa and Levi, for starters.

Man, Erwin is so much better than Levi. Lack of Mikasa was certainly a problem (she's the best), but I like the cast in general, so it wasn't a big deal. I think S2 resolved as many mysteries as it introduced though.

Erwin is good, but as it stands for the show, Levi starts getting content near the end of S1, has a (surprisingly decent) OVA, and then has like six lines in S2. We like Levi, so this is no bueno. Add to that the fact that Season 2 spent so much time on a particular character we didn't enjoy (whose name I can't even recall offhand) and it's kind of a raw deal.

yeah the Ymir overload really dampens my enthusiasm for Season 2 because I just could not find myself caring about her at all

Also, are you counting Levi as a main character...? I'd say there are a few others that are as important as he is. Armin/Eren/Mikasa are usually considered the main characters of the series.

Erwin is objectively better than Levi in every way, too. Funnier, cooler action scenes, more emotional sequences. Not sure where your 'ehhhhhhh' is coming from.

Ymir is a good name because it's being used for a person rather than a location like usual!

Anyway, cool things about her: she has good fights, she's paired up with Krista, she's gay which is a plus for some people though it's definitely a negative for certain other people, she delivers some cool backstory on the titans, she helps the good guys in eps 4-5 even though she's a bad guy, and she's loyal to her friends on both the good side and the bad side. I dunno, she's not my favorite character or anything, but I liked her quite a bit in S2!
