Far Cry: Primal on XB1

Enjoyed it, wanted to make sure I beat it before I go buy Far Cry 5. Previously beaten Far Cry 3, 4, and Blood Dragon (and Blood Dragon is hilarious).

Kirby's Blowout Blast(3DS)
Neat action game based on Kirby's inhale... in 3D! Clearing levels isn't hard but the real goal is to get platinum ranks by maximizing your score on each stage. This is surprisingly tough. I'm working on the EX worlds now, which have the same number of levels as the main game.

3/28 - Super Mario 3D World

I've had this game for years and wanted to beat it with friends, that never panned out so I decided to beat it over the past week.

I found this to be a very clever and outright fun game!
I have no idea why it had some hate around it when it released.

There are some downsides to going back from X on the same system, but it's not a bad game. Ol' Wily is as annoying as ever, with a boss rush followed by a 2-phase battle. Given that you need all your E tanks for phase 2, you effectively only get one shot per run.

Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters (PS4) - Platinum'd

So a bit of backstory here. I really like the Kamen Rider series and for a couple years I've been importing games from Hong Kong since they typically don't sell KR games in NA. The three games I've gotten before were all the Japanese editions and I would play them in Japanese. So this time when I was getting this one, I just assumed it would be in Japanese as well.

Turned out it was a Chinese edition. So the voices were in Japanese, but the text was all in Chinese. Playing a game in Japanese is tough, but playing a game in Chinese was even harder. Took so much effort just to get past the tutorials.

Anyways, the game was pretty mediocre. The mechanics were kinda clunky and the gameplay was pretty shallow. The last trophy was to play an online match but the game is completely dead so it took me three hours of sitting in a queue today to find a really laggy match.

It is uninspired. It felt like the game was just an excuse for 3d abstract levels. It felt a bit too simple.

Luckily that latter reason is easily remedied by the game's extra levels, but it still uses the same rehashed level design albeit with different (sometimes unfair time based) rulesets.

Them's Fightin' Herds(PC)- Arcade with all characters
They've got some interesting moveset designs here. Needs a lot more work on presentation and modes, but it's a fun fighting game with nice-looking visuals already.

Yeah, as the console's signature 3D Mario platformer, 3D World was underwhelming and uninspired.

The Sexy Brutale (Switch)

Grim, surreal, but strangely satisfying, that's how I would describe this game. Not entirely sure how I feel about the ending, but I think in time I'll come to enjoy it. Overall, I'm very glad I played this.

I found 43/52 cards... at some point I will hunt the rest down.

NES Remix

For the 3rd time this year, another game I started years ago...Finished this up today getting 3 stars on every level. Forget rainbowing everything as the game itself took about 15 hours to beat if my Wii U isn't lying.

I have the "NES Remix Pack" with both games on disk, but I figure I'll list this one here becasue they can be bought individually.

This is another game I really enjoyed, the quick nature of challenges and included spin on the classic game is right up my alley.
I wish some of the games in the Bonus had more levels...Tennis is a legitimately awesome game.
Underrated series.

That last stage was grueling though man.

Looking forward to the second one as the games included seem like the more popular NES games, games that I have actually played. Who has played Wrecking Crew

I wish the games themselves were playable in full though. But if they had included them the game would probably cost like 100 bucks or something lol. Although, there is one Mario 1 stage that gives you 6 minutes to beat. I ignored the mission and nearly played though the whole game...darn World 8 and how I was never good at you. I wonder what happens if you get to the end it if anything at all.

Conker's Bad Fur Day for Xbox One

I have mixed feelings about this. It was a linear game caught in a semi-open world design, which made things a little iffy, and the old era of poor hitboxes and unwieldy cameras didn't help matters. Still, when it wanted to be fun and funny, it was great.

Kirby: Star Allies (Switch)

This was pretty fun. Some of the later levels got annoying, some of the allies weren't very helpful, and the final boss was of "WILL YOU FUCKING DIE ALREADY?!?!" proportions, even by Kirby game standards. But overall it was fun, a bit darker than most Kirby games, and there was no redemption and/or "we were being manipulated by a dark force" for the villains like there is in most Kirby games, which was different and neat.

Also, I never powered the console down while playing it, only put it in sleep, so I played through the game in one go so to say. I died... I wanna say 7 times in the entire game? Three of those times was on the penultimate boss and once was on the final boss. I had over 70 lives by the end.

Also also how fucking long does the Switch Pro Controller batter life last?! I played through The Sexy Brutale AND this on one charge and it FINALLY said "low battery" during the ending cutscene of Kirby.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (3DS)

It felt great to play through an Ace Attorney game again.
I thought the Mood Matrix system was pretty neat.

I'll be sure to get the DLC Case for this game. Then once I get through the DLC Case, I'm definitely going to start up Spirit of Justice as soon as possible while I also get the DLC Case for that game as well.

Valis (Genesis)

This game was ok. Standard action/platformer while you play as a blue haired chick named Yuko who became a Valis Warrior. You use a sword and can use different sword power ups you can pick up that can also be powered up to 3 stages, can also slide, jump high, and can use magic you earn when you defeat bosses. The anime cut scenes were really nice looking as well.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS, played on PS3)
And with that, the last Metroidvania-style Castlevania I still had to play and beat is finished. I completed the maps. Definitely an amazing game as expected, partly because of the incredible soundtrack, but some later games did improve on it a little in terms of balancing and variety. Also, I can't remember a single boss being challenging, the final one could at least rack up some damage with its size, but at that point I knew I could slice away quicker at the boss than the other way around. Oh, wait, there is one boss that's obviously very hard...until you find out you can use some of your overpowered equipment to cheese it, like a certain beryl circlet.

I will miss these Castlevania games. :(
