Anyway, Chapter 11 in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future was rather short, so I'm done with that one already, too! We finally meet the mystery woman, and it's Claire's estranged sister, Celeste! Naturally, she wants to know what happened, too, but we're chased out by the Family before we can really have a long chat with her. She invites us to meet her at the Thames Arms.

Chapter 12 is entitled The Truth Revealed (which is a great FFX song by the way), so I guess the climax awaits!

In Fate.....stay night, Gilgamesh trounces Shiro and Saber until Excalibur's scabbard appears, and they use it to deflect the blast from his dark spiral thingy back at him, although it doesn't really defeat him. He just decides to leave them be for the time being. Once again, Shiro tries to convince Saber to stay with him, but this time he pleads from a heart of love and her resolve begins to waver a bit. Afterwards, Shiro goes to see Kirei to talk to him about Gilgamesh, only to find an underground chamber full of corpses that were apparently Gilgamesh's mana supply for the last ten years so he could stay in this world. Oh hey, and Lancer finally shows back up to stab Shiro in the chest again.

Ilya has gotten very sick, presumably because she's about to become the vessel for the Grail, which Rin has figured out. She's also figured out who Lancer's Master is. Apparently, she tracked down who his original Master was and found someone had killed them a while ago and stolen their Command Seals, and she deduces only someone with Command Seals left over from the previous Grail War could do that, leaving Kirei as the only possibility. Rin never tells us this person's name, but it feels fitting to refer to them as "Master" Miller since they suffered a similar fate.

Saber tracks down Shiro, only to find Kirei, Lancer, and Gilgamesh (now wearing a swanky Squall-esque coat with fur lining) waiting for them. Lancer is a little incensed that Kirei has had another Servant all this time. Kirei tells them all the secret of the Holy Grail, that it's just a weapon of mass destruction and it was responsible for the destruction of Fuyuki ten years ago when he touched it. Kirei also asks Shiro if he would want to go back in time ten years to prevent that destruction if he could, but he said he'd never do that because it'd be an insult to all those who had to deal with and overcome that pain, including himself. Saber realizes that he's in a similar situation to herself and yet he passed on a chance to do things over, and she finally decides she doesn't want to do things over either.

Kirei sics his two Servants on them, but Lancer decides he ain't havin' this and turns on Gilgamesh. Unfortunately, he's naturally no match for Gilgamesh and gets killed, but at least he gets to go out like a boss again! Also, we get to hear that awesome battle music again. Afterward, Shiro and Saber resolve to destroy the Grail together. Only two episodes to go!

I listened to that Fate/stay night battle theme as I was anxiously waiting for a train to pass and not come to a dead stop a little while ago.

Okay, I finished Chapter 12 of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, but it seems we're not quite done yet after all! As usual, the solution behind the supernatural is kinda dumb. I don't really get why you wouldn't notice you were riding a long elevator. I guess the big spinning clock is meant to distract your senses or something. Also, it's kind of dumb how the game is like "time travel is impossible but a giant mobile fortress emerging from underground and Layton doing a death-defying leap with his car to land on it is totally feasible." That's just part of the Layton package though, I guess!

The scene where Layton and Dimitri explain everything was really good though. Then it turns out Future Luke is the real villain all along! I kinda figured he'd end up double-crossing everyone by the time it was said and done if he wasn't the real Luke. I remember a few chapters before being worried about him being alone with Flora, and it turns out those fears were not unfounded as he's now taken her hostage!

Fate.....stay night beated! Kirei ambushes Rin and steals Ilya to make her heart the vessel for the Grail, but thankfully, Rin survives and manages to give Shiro the dagger she received from Kirei as a child with some tips on what to do and how to use it. The last episode was pretty solid. The fights between Shiro/Kirei and Saber/Gilgamesh were both very good. Shiro breaking Kirei's curse by sheer willpower alone is enough to counterbalance all the dumb stuff he did in this route. Also, Kirei reveals that Kiritsugu died because he placed this curse on him at the end of the last Grail War, and that Kiritsugu thought he had ended the Grail Wars for good when he had Saber destroy it last time, which is why he never passed anything on to Shiro.

Overall, Unlimited Blade Works is better, but I'm glad I watched this version, too. I thought it was pretty good! I'll do some final rankings here in a bit.

That FSN Assassin disrespect. Can't blame you since him being a badass is mostly off-screen. I don't remember if it was explicitly stated but keep in mind he's been guarding the shrine the whole time.Which means he might have been on his own fending off Berserker for days.

Assassin's claim to fame is those two fights with Saber. He doesn't do much of anything otherwise. The fights are great, but as a character, it's only worth so much.

Fate Shirou sucks yeah. I actually liked Rin better in Fate (I feel like she's funnier there), but I can see thinking otherwise if you're a fan of the romance. Also Fate Shinji > UBW Shinji because he dies early on in Fate

I wonder if I'd actually like Gilgamesh if I'd watched Fate/Zero first? As it is, I generally rank him in the bottom two or so.

Rin is good in Fate, too. It's not even necessarily being a fan of the romance. She just gets to do more in UBW. I don't think she's noticeably funnier in one iteration over the other.

Yeah Gilgamesh is so much better in Fate/Zero, but I was never fully able to get over how much I don't care about him in Fate/Stay.

Rin's one of the rare characters who has a lot of pretty good content in all of the routes. Not even sure which one I'd say is her best but I could see a case for any of them.
