Celebrities have always chimed in about current events in popular culture. With the crazy political climate these past couple of years, politics are bigger in popular culture than ever before. Politics is possibly the BIGGEST thing in popular culture currently. So its really no surprise that celebrities are talking about it. Theyre just doing the same thing theyve always done talking about things that are important to the greatest portion of their fan base.

Liberal media outlets are a conservative-hating circle jerk, especially when awards shows are on. The Grammies was nothing, but a big middle finger to the President. They even had Hillary in one of their comedy bits. I dont think theyll ever get over the fact that the bitch isnt president.

If you were a celebrity would you post your opinions on some shitty anonymous message board?

Do you ever think you would feel the need to gravitate towards this kind of thing if you became famous before the social media era?

If I were speaking at a conference about mixology, I would not start praising the free market and Adam Smith. Why? because that would be totally irrelevant to the topic and nobody who's there is interested in a mixologist's opinion on economics. Nor should they be expected to care.

So why do we just accept that people who are watching an awards show for music are going to accept politics getting injected into the subject matter?

Some of it does. Most does not.

The only person who performed who might have enough political clout in their music to be worthwhile was Bono

Do you honestly think that the ratings would be any better if there were no politics?

You don't think that perhaps a 3 hour award show being broadcast on TV in the year 2018 is a factor? That the reasons for watching the grammys live on TV has shrunk dramatically with the rise of YouTube, social media, Spotify etc.?

They were back when there was no (or very little) politics.

Just saying, it's the one outstanding variable that happens to coincide with their plummeting ratings. Youtube views are hardly numerous enough to account for the less shits people are giving them.

i like how you ignored the rest of the post...where he outlined another variable...the one where people are watching less TV and catching certain things online and with streams....why sit through the entire 3 hour show when i can just watch the performances i want on Youtube later. Modern music has been inherently tied to politics since at least the 60's with the free love/hippy movement.

So good luck trying to separate politics from music artists. You'll probably have to stick with shallow pop songs and the Teen Choice Awards for that.

I'm sure they can give a lot of fascinating insight about their journey to get their award and the trials and tribulations they faced to achieve what they did.

I'm also sure that Trump's latest mean tweet has nothing to do with any of that.
