I'm playing on max with a rig that's a bit well under the recommended settings; with the exception of keeping Fog on medium.

Long story short, yes there are some FPS issues. However, they aren't quite as bad as people are exaggerating. One thing to note about the FPS is that it's all on-screen lag. Input-wise, the game played perfectly fine.

I did have a few other minor issues. The first was more egregious and almost wasn't "minor". When I first launched the game, I had an issue where the game would keep minimizing. However, it stopped after about the first 5 mins. By the time I got to the actual gameplay segments, it was done. And when I closed and relaunched the game to up the graphics settings, it wasn't doing it then either. It seemed to be a one and done deal.

The other is a crash. I got a "Dynasty Warriors 9 has stopped working" error message that happened when I already exited the game lol

Also, the recording footage is a bit blurry, but I can verify that the game, in actuality, is pretty crisp.

Finally, I'm fucking around a bit and I haven't quite gotten to the point where everything feels intuitive. I'm getting there, though. So expect some wonky play in the video.

It always gets bad reviews because people who don't like them keep thinking they're going to be different and get mad when the core game mechanics are the same.

Sterling is the series' most high-profile defender. If he thinks it's shit, that's a bad sign. Wish I had listened to him about Warriors All-Stars.
I suppose he is a bit traditionalist due to his clear and nonsensical bias against SW compared to DW (and making it seem like he'd never played SW before given what he thought was "new"), but he still at least gave SW 4 an overall good review in the end.

You might be waiting a decent while. Story Modes are pretty long and I'll probably do a write-up of sorts once I finish Wu's story mode. Or the very least, a handful of characters including Gan Ning's. There aren't really Kingdom story modes as they're individual again, but they're all part of the same timeline.

Sterling's a bit of an attention whore, tbh.

That's not to say his opinions are completely without weight, but still.

I'm playing the game and it's got a few issues, but it's fun. It's got your typical Warriors jankiness.

That said, if you only have the base PS4/X1, I'd hold off until they patch them. They're playable, but very rough.

I can understand why.

HW implements 3D Zelda games' fake difficulty of "wait for it!"
All the monsters and officers, the best way to kill them is to patiently wait for them to expose their weakness, then attack. It's very passive and boring. Those used to other Warriors games are used to having options to guard-break foes and create your own openings, actively. By far my biggest gripe w/ HW, though I still think it was a really good game.

I normally love the games in this franchise, but I am waiting to see what everybody things of the changes made to the system in DW9, and those opinions are now starting to emerge.

Not quite. It's still a musou through and through and despite the changes, it very much feels like a DW game.

It just has a lot of the typical open world features that you would find in a game like Elder Scrolls.

Define rough. I've been playing it since I got home Sunday and I cannot really say I noticed anything that would have hindered my enjoyment on the game, that would be an issue on a more powerful console.

I can't say for sure myself, but I know people are having sub-30 FPS issues on the PS4 Pro. I can only imagine what it's like on the base console, and I at least know that people are very upset.

The AI's not always like this, but it's noticeably better than the past two main entries. Also, not every enemy has super armor.

It looks perfectly fine, FPS might stutter at times, but never into such low numbers it becomes grating. 60 FPS is far more than we actually need.

In truth, my only issue is the new controls for how the movesets work. There was little need for Koei to mess with perfection and for some create something more like Renbu.

Also, they really need to fix some button prompts. The execute/finisher button and advance text button prompts work properly, but the "interact" button prompts only shows the default button. Same with the R1 menu, it seems to be static on button placement.

Yeah, Koei released a patch today and people are saying performance is much improved.

I agree about the button prompts. Not so much about the system itself or that the charge system was "perfectly good". The current system needs some work, but I think it has a higher ceiling overall.

I still maintain that renbu was the best thing for the series moving forward.

To me, the "Charge System", is Musou. I started with 5, pretty much played every musou released since then, including some older one and some weird spin-off titles just because they were Musou games.

It just feels more clunky, as part of the moveset control has been handed over to the game. A charge move having slightly different effect based on location (the Steele and Lu Su's hark for example), great. The game deciding what moves to use based on enemy placement, not so great.

The game doesn't "decide" to do anything outside of the react attacks; you're given control over the enemy's state. That's what the trigger attacks are for.

Also, Koei just completely killed off the Chinese voice and text options for Steam. The Chinese fanbase had already tanked it's review system and now they've completely hijacked it lol

Not gonna lie, I won't bother defending that. You had to go the extra mile to actually enable the Chinese options, they could've just kept it "hidden", but nope.

No, the elements aren't random and yes, the flow attack adjusts to the state of the enemy after a successful trigger attack and they will also absorb the element of that trigger attack.

I bought the game because of your other topic and I regretted it at first, but after the patch and 3 story playthrough (sun jian, lu bu, dong zhuo), I'm finally starting to understand the nuances of the game and how To make it more enjoyable and I'm really having fun

I'm at chapter 6 I think now with guan Yu, and I'm really having a good time

Yeah, this game grows on you. A bit different from the other games where the focus is on immediate satisfaction. It helps when you get a grasp on mission structure and understand the combat.

could always do the cheat'y kind of thing and go to one of those fishing spots where it's easy to get the best coin and fish up 600 of them and buy 6 of the epic wind gems to have crazy fast attack speed <_<

I might do it sometime if I feel like fishing for a bit (maybe would take 50-60 fish bait at southeast guanying (maybe guanying?) port)... but It might cheapen the experience a bit to get those gems because every character would just be super fast attack spamming lol

Although, I already did buy guan yus epic weapon and the accessory that makes it so you can't get flinched by attacks at all (super armor woo!).. might as well go get 6 epic wind gems and the epic experience up accesory as well <_<

Just short ones. Sun jian, dong zhuo, lu bu. Nothing spectacular in terms of scenes and I didn't really like how they played, lu bu disappointed me. I especially wish the end scenes actually mentioned their deaths, sun jians was literally just finding the seal in the well and then the end. Dong zhuo had the best ending out of the three because he was getting with all his bitches and then lu bu walks in and it does a close up of his spear and cuts to the credits.

I'm now playing as Guan Yu and I really like how he plays a LOT more than the other 3 so far
