If we're talking about Olimar and Alph, those are alternate costumes. Press L or R when you choose the character and you can choose Olimar or Alph. They take up the same slot on a character select screen. Mario and Dr. Mario would be clones. They are selected separately. They're very similar in their movesets, but they have differences that heavily shape their strengths and weaknesses. Semi-clones, like Ganon and Captain Falcon, are different enough to be fine. Straight clones like Lucina and Dark Pit, I have a bit more of an issue with those because it's just extra roster slots. Those characters could probably just be alternate skins who have literally 0 differences in their movesets. So personally, give me all the alternate costumes you want. I'm down for that. DS game which was a sequel to an (also obscure?) GBA game. Krystal, using a moveset inspired by Starfox Adventures. Bonus: Alternate costume that makes her look like her original Dinosaur Planet incarnation. Wolf, because if you're gonna put in the straight male furry bait, may as well put the gay male furry bait in as well. Isaac from Golden Sun. Everyone keeps saying Golden Sun is a dead franchise, but they forget that Kid Icarus was an even deader franchise when Pit was added to Brawl. And guess what? It revived the franchise. Toon Zelda and Tetra - two characters technically. In this instance, though, I could see Toon Zelda being more of a physically-oriented character than regular Zelda, and Tetra would be the pirate to run counter to Sheik's ninja. Admittedly, this is pretty low on my wishlist. Obligatory Third Party Entry: Solaire from Dark Souls. Praise the Sun! There is very little difference in having a character be an alt and having them be on the character screen. It's a very arbitrary thing to want to change. If anything it's nice seeing more unique characters on-screen. Inkling obviously, Rex/Pyra, and whoever the lead in the new FE is are the most likely candidates.
