It's just confusing since the last two series I've read were done by Crunchyroll (Spirit Circle and ReLIFE) and both of them use scanlations on Dex for some reason. Very strange decision.

Anyway, I'm going to watch way less things while they're airing next season and just binge them all after they finish instead, but if I wanted to pick one old anime to catch up on and watch the sequel for as it airs, what should it be? I'd prefer something people here might be discussing which is why I ask. Not SG0 since I'll read the VN someday.

I can pretty much guarantee Hero Academia 3 will get more discussion here than any other sequel.

I have no interest in watching Kizuna Ai but I find the idea intriguing, especially how the person behind it has apparently remained anonymous. Like, how are they signing contracts for an anime voice acting gig without revealing who they are? Are they just going to send in voice clips? So many questions.

Uh, Kizuna Ai is literally a YouTuber. She's like done through a motion capture, and I wanna say that she's made by a group of people, but I don't think much info has been given behind her.

That said, she's gone big enough to even get her own figures.

Can I just say that it's almost impressive that they made what I can only describe as a SEQUEL OP to DAYS, one of my favorite OPs of all time, and yet the knowledge of what it's for just makes me feel.....nothing? Truly a parallel to Eureka Seven AO itself.

I'm also reminded of how great I think Eureka and Renton look in this, and it's a shame it's attached to....I don't even know what to call AO. It's not as bad a sequel as Psycho-Pass 2, but it sure makes me madder.

When are the Ancient Magus' Bride OVAs best to watch again? I remember someone saying it was between two certain episodes of the TV series.

I don't think it really matters much as long as you give yourself enough episodes in the main series to get a feeling for Chise as a character. I guess the ideal time is probably after episode 13 though, since that's technically when the OVA's take place. (Though they are mostly a flashback to well before the start of the series)

They don't actually spoil anything, I watched them first and they didn't show anything more than certain characters who are also in the OP. I remember them taking place during episode twelve though, it was around the end of the first cour.

Shirase is so great. I find it really hard to believe that only like 6 episodes ago I thought Shirase was the clear weak link of the cast, but now she's my favorite even despite all of the other characters getting exponentially better themselves. (except maybe Kimari)

So is it too early to vote this show for AotY, or...?

The show has consistently gotten better and better each episode by slowly building each girl

I think Shirase was very weak during the Australia arc, but these last few episodes really made her shoot to the top. Her having talks with Gin and Kanae throughout the ship and now using Hinata's friends as a proxy to clear the air with Gin was very well done.

Code Geass is good stuff 4 episodes in.

The relentless pace and snap editing is almost uncomfortably fast, but I'm keeping up just fine and it's refreshing that an anime is demanding that I keep up than wishing it wouldn't drag or dumb down so much.

I took a break from SAO today and watched all of Magical Girl Raising Project. The best word I can use to describe this anime is 'unpleasant', which isn't automatically a bad thing. Stories can be grim and still be good, and 'unpleasant' was certainly what this anime wanted to be, but... in this case everything about it was just handled so poorly. I predicted the outcome of almost everything just by considering what the absolute worst thing possible could be and sure enough that was always what happened. Add in a useless main character and the fact that it didn't even try to hide the fact that it really, really wanted to be Madoka, and I hated this anime. A few characters had neat designs (Hardgore Alice, aww yeah) but those rare good ideas were totally wasted here. That said the absolute best moment was the creative use of that one girl's digging power. Holy shit I hadn't expected that. I liked the ED song too I guess.

And yeah that show had issues. I liked the ending though! And there were a few good scenes and idea throughout. I think my biggest problem with it was Fav being so lame compared to, say, Kyubey. Cranberry was also ridiculous. I kept having hope for cool things to happen, and those hopes kept being squashed.

But yeah that was a weird choice to watch considering literally no one likes it.

I like that show a good bit!

It's just wierd because the entire show is just one volume of the novels and is really all just prologue to the actual series. It's a severe case of being an ad for the source material.

Huh? Every book in the series is about something totally different. How is book 1 a prologue?

There's really no way to get into that without spoilers, right? It mainly has to do with the nature of one of the "antagonistic" forces throughout.

Plus, the first book was originally written as a standalone. Hardly worth calling it a prologue. Almost as silly as calling book one of the Wheel of Time or something a prologue.

It's generally considered to have a good dub, though it uses honorifics for some dumb reason.

It got onto my list somehow, probably after I watched Madoka and was asking about magical girls. Also it would be annoying if I was in here asking people about a new anime every few days so I don't know how to avoid this.

Anyway, I'm curious which of my prior opinions made you think I wouldn't like it. I loved Yuki Yuna, and Madoka was good too. I also thought it sounded neat, like Battle Royale with magical girls. It... was kind of like that I guess, but BR handled characterization and deaths a million times better. Just one example of what I'm talking about: Literally the first time Top Speed said she wanted to live at least six months I was like "Oh so you're pregnant and you're going to die in the first real battle you two face and then it'll pan down and show your stomach, alright" but MGRP thought this was just the greatest idea ever so they had her repeat the line over and over, had Ripple consider what the line meant, had a long scene with her husband where they "cleverly" hid her waist, and then when the most predictable thing in the world happened and it panned down to show she was pregnant I literally sighed. The idea of a girl being pregnant in this situation isn't bad but that execution was just... bleh. I think it would've been better if she revealed her pregnancy to the other girls while asking to be left alone. Then they would've needed to grapple with potentially needing to kill a pregnant girl in this murder game (and Swim-Swim ultimately being the one to not give a fuck might've had more of a punch). While I'd still expect her to die I wouldn't have guessed the why and how so easily. MGRP was full of stuff like this.

Halfway through FLCL, stopping now to do some other stuff

I'm fascinated by how nothing is happening yet it's so appealing. The voice actors really add a lot to the show. And then obviously the animation.

There's a reason it made such a mark in the west. FLCL was a big part of me branching out into broader anime.

So what's the current take on Evergarden? Seeing it coming up a lot as it approaches the end. If it weren't for Netflix I'd probably still be following along at the very least, but that combined with the meh first episode and very poor second episode have caused me to basically ignore it entirely. Did it ever actually pick up?
