This is actually kind of annoying.

The main plot is the absolute definition of who gives a fuck this has been done a million time to the point where it's frustratingly generic, but enough time is being invested in the side plots at such a brisk pace that I don't really want to turn it off.

Don't really know why they get separated into the tokusatsu category. There have been tokusatsu shows like Giant Robo that got into Super Robot Taisen but Super Sentai has never been in the games. Technically Super Sentai qualifies as mecha genre but Japan likes to think of all these shows with people dressed in rubber suits as tokusatsu.

Super Sentai = mecha
Godzilla = kaijuu (strange creatures, usually giant sized)
Ultraman = guy in rubber suit fighting Godzilla sized monsters
Kamen Rider = guy in rubber suit fighting human sized monsters

All of those are live action shows and grouped into the tokusatsu genre, and they're usually children's Saturday morning shows.

Just can't bring myself to turn this off. I've never seen a show with such disparity between the MC and how interesting everyone else is, especially after the halfway point. You could just cut him out and have a better show, you barely gotta even change anything.

He's not even offensively awful, he's just nothing.

I read Revenge Classroom. Hmm. I kinda get the themes and all (revenge is evil, not satisfactory, anyone who commits revenge is a villain and revenge will always make everything worse) but man, that was kinda painful to read. Some characters were pretty confusing too, which is probably the bigger problem. It was more likable in the first few chapters, when it was lower level revenge, before people started dying. I would've probably said I liked it overall until the stupid twist at the end that wasn't foreshadowed at all. What a bad last chapter. Bleh.

I feel like Hepatica's commitment to being over the top was better than the way it went here. A lot more coherent too.

augh why did I watch the Ancient Magus' Bride OVAs. These were terrible. Way worse than the main series. The third one had a couple good parts, but even it had issues. Felt like it took place 40 years ago rather than 10, was filled with all evil spirits and no good spirits (which isn't the case at all in the main series, especially since the series constantly emphasizes how spirits love sleigh beggies), and it makes zero sense how the ordinary people here know nothing about magic. I think that this is a dumb aspect in any modern day series where people don't know about magic (Harry Potter included) but it especially makes no sense here, when you see stuff like Elias curing townspeople with magic medicine. The library forest story was nice, at least, though it did make Chise seem extra dumb. Why would she ever leave the door open when she's deathly afraid of the monsters outside? Bah.

If anyone's interested in the series and is considering watching the OVAs, don't. They suck.

It's a problem in the main series too, but it never comes up there. And again, ordinary people seem to know more about magic in the main series than they do in the OVAs.

Mostly a lack of elements I dislike from the main series but I also thought they were legitimately good. I thought the OVAs told a touching, coherent story, which is more than I can say for 90% of the rest of AMB.

The music, presentation, and artwork are all top tier enough to make Magus bride a good show imo.

I think the writing is also a strong point, the plot lacks a little drive maybe.

Ha, that's kind of a shame, because the last half of the series, which introduces a bunch of new characters, was legitimately entertaining to me. Some real emotional stuff and interesting as well. Gai and everyone attached to him are barley even there.

At the same time it's not actually good enough that I can call it worth the first half to get to, so this isn't actually a recommendation.

I'll probably be the only person here who ends up finishing this.

Okay so I really shouldn't have made that pledge not to whine about FranXX here because if I don't blow off some steam about episode 11 it might legitimately ruin the rest of my day. No one should feel obligated to read this or respond.

Oh boy it's the cucking episode everyone predicted and it pissed me off just as much as I knew it would. The only reason I can see for the writers having Kokoro make that promise only to break it two minutes later was because their goal was to make the viewer hate her, so good job on succeeding I guess. I honestly wouldn't mind if they gave a legitimate reason. Ikuno wanting to get away from Mitsuru makes sense because the dude is insufferable. Futoshi has been consistently portrayed as a good guy, though, even after the betrayal, so the only logical reason is LOL he's fat and Kokoro wants to make a baby with someone attractive. So of course she latches onto Mitsuru, the biggest douche on the show. I guess that makes sense though. Their only two interactions that I can remember have been him showing open disdain for her and saying he doesn't give a fuck, which is what women look for in men, right? Time to animate their super-link as a hardcore sex scene with Kokoro showing pain from the size of his connection! Better take a few minutes out of the episode to belittle same-sex relationships for no reason, too.

so guys I've actually been watching anime again

B: The Beginning - This was decent but ultimately I never got too invested in the story or characters. I think it also probably be a lot easier to follow if I rewatched it but I probably didn't like it enough to do so. Still, the plot was interesting enough to keep me watching and I never considered dropping it. It felt kind of ambitious too. Anyway, two for two with good Netflix produced anime for me (the other one being of course Devilman.)

As for other stuff... I've quite literally been watching random stuff (using random.org to pick stuff off my plan to watch list.)

Katte ni Kaizou - Not sure how many people watched this but it was pretty funny. Kind of inconsistent since some episodes were hilarious and others were weak. Best parts revolved around Kaizou believing he's a cyborg. I thought the series was going to revolve around that but I was let down.

She and Her Cat: Everything Flows - Great concept and good for what it was but just too light on content for me to get really into.

Ghost in the Shell: Arise 1 - This was bad and I'm not going to watch the rest.

Two eps into Heavy Object now, it's good so far.

Inconsistent is a good way to describe Katte ni Kaizou. Definitely hilarious at times, but some segments were just bad.
